  1. Is there a rule that specifies squadding order? I don't see one, so curious how it's determined. Is it up to the match organizers? Decided within each squad? Obviously, this question is before even my first match, just curious how it works.
  2. I can't find if this has been discussed previously, but I just read a thread discussing how much effort was put into having a separate rulebook for USPSA vs IPSC. Why was this done? What problem is there with the IPSC rules for American shooters? Not looking for a debate over the differences, just a new shooter looking to understand the history of the sport.
  3. Thanks all for the good advice. Cutting back on carbs and snacking will be quite difficult -- I find myself snacking whenever I'm in a bad mood. I do need to work on both weight loss and strength training. I'll try some of the things listed here, but making it a habit will, of course, be the hardest part.
  4. Alright, I'll start by admitting I'm in terrible shape. I'm just getting into USPSA and need to get into a reasonable shape for it. Even holding my pistol extended for long enough to fire off 50 rounds causes my arm muscles to shake and after ~150 rounds, both my arms and back start getting sore. What would you all recommend for getting reasonably fit?
  5. The magazine is available online, survey results here.
  6. It's ironic, I just ordered an 85C trigger to replace the recurve on my SP-01 because it gives me "trigger bite" (the bottom of the recurve digs into my trigger finger). Guess it just depends on hands/fingers.
  7. Part of the problem is also a weight issue. I definitely tire much more quickly holding my steel-framed SP-01 than my Browning Buckmark. Maybe I just need some arm strength training.
  8. Welcome from a fellow bay area shooter!
  9. Haha, fair enough. Maybe I need to find someone locally with them to give a try.
  10. I had similar results with Blazer Brass and Remington UMC. While neither are "top shelf" ammo, I don't think it's the ammo. My trigger pull is definitely a possibility. Slow fire from standing with a two hand grip. This was outdoors at a public range, wearing earmuffs. 2-3" groups. Could obviously be better, but I've only been shooting for ~2 months.
  11. Northern California (Bay Area). I believe Richmond Rod & Gun club is the only USPSA club in the area, but I could be wrong of course.
  12. I'll give it a shot. I don't have any friends who shoot competition right now, but hopefully I'll make some after I start attending a few matches.
  13. How good a shot were you before you started shooting in USPSA? How tight should my groups be? I just got a CZ-75 SP-01 (my first full caliber pistol) and I'm very excited about trying competition, but right now my groups are still pretty terrible (6" at 15 yds). How tight should I be getting them before I start competing? I'd rather not look foolish at my first match, after all.
  14. How does the profile and thickness of the palm swell grips compare to the stock grips on the SP-01?
  15. How far were you from the plates? That came back with a lot of force...
  16. WTF... say what you will about WWB, it's never been that bad!
  17. I didn't want to piss on a manufacturer who's product I've never tried.
  18. I'm surprised to hear Freedom is included. Half of the kabooms I've heard of have involved them, so I always assumed their QC was borderline...
  19. For those who don't reload, what ammo do you use in matches? Reliability seems to be the most important part, not sure the best brands there. I'm planning to run a 9mm in production if that matters.
  20. Nice, this is the first I've heard of Almaden Valley, I'll check them out. I do intend to get out to Richmond Rod and Gun Club, but I think I have to take their safety class (1/month) first.
  21. I'm new to shooting (literally started a month and a half ago) and want to get into action competition. Looking forward to learning what I need to be a safe and effective competitor (and it looks like it might be a good way to lose some weight). About to pick up a CZ 75 for my first competition-worthy pistol. (Well, in 10 days, thanks California.)
