  1. What do you plan to do with the FFL1? (Just curious.)
  2. Interesting, I need to find someone locally who might let me give it a try. Sounds fun
  3. Is it a straight blow back? I admit I've never looked into how it works... Is the bolt just heavy enough to keep the breach closed until the round has exited the barrel?
  4. While not a replacement barrel, I use the BarrelBlok. It's an insert that fits into the chamber and sticks out past the end of the barrel to indicate that it is clear. It is still on you to swap them out, but I guess the same holds true of that barrel replacement. I've also heard of people who would like additional safety using a 5 gallon bucket of sand as a backstop.
  5. As a new shooter who's not yet run into this problem, I wouldn't expect a reshoot. If you have to sneeze during a football game, do they restart the play? Will they pause a NASCAR race if a driver has to sneeze? Yes, it may suck, but it happens. My biggest fear is that I would drop my pistol and receive a DQ...
  6. In a 10 round magazine state, does any benefit remain in limited minor? It seems starting with the hammer back becomes the only difference then. (Assuming I use a production pistol.)
  7. Yeah, the Dawson instructions involve putting 271 across the entire surface. That doesn't seem easy at the range. I'm tempted to sight it in, remove the set screw, put the wicking threadlocker in, and then tighten down the set screw. If it works loose, I'll revisit the issue.
  8. Ok, this is probably a stupid question, but how do you handle zeroing your sights at the range? I just bought a set of Dawson Precision for my CZ 75 SP-01, and will obviously need to zero for windage at the local range. However, Dawson recommends putting loctite on the base of the sight, so I need to do that right before zeroing. Would you just bring the loctite and the sight to the range, apply the loctite, zero, and tighten? I will be using a nylon punch as I don't have a sight pusher. Would you zero the sights, mark the sight position, come home, take it apart, apply loctite, then put it back? I would mark with a silver sharpie that should come off with some rubbing alcohol afterwards. Is there a better technique I'm not thinking of?
  9. I ended up buying a vise and using that as a poor man's arbor press to push the pins into place. Worked great for a $20 vise, and I don't expect any problems from that in the future. Cajunization is complete, but haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Anything special I should check out? I verified the firing pin block is moving properly by pushing on the firing pin with a punch with the trigger pulled and not, but it only travels ~2mm further with the trigger back. I check on the slide and the firing pin consequently only sticks ~1.5-2mm out of the bolt when all the way forward -- will that be a problem for striking primers? I don't remember what it looked like stock. Now I need to figure out how to install my Dawson FO sights and get them sighted in. Based on their directions, I may need to take loctite to the range for when I zero...
  10. I'm trying to install the pro kit and no amount of pounding will get the hammer pin through the hammer. I currently have both of them stuck (I don't know what possessed me to try both) in one side of the hammer. Any advice on getting them in? I don't have a vice to try pressing them in...
  11. I'm in the South Bay, I'll have to come check out the action up at Richmond sometime. I'll also take a look at those carbines.
  12. Can anyone recommend PCC options that meet the California featureless requirements? Not a lot of PCC shooters around here (perhaps because of the laws) but I'm curious what good options are. (Obviously not looking for a debate on the laws, just how best to deal with them.)
  13. At the very least, there should be a changelog like is done in software: a list of dates and a one-line summary of each change.
  14. Awesome. Ordered a pro kit and new dawson sights. Feels like I'm basically building a new pistol inside the SP-01 frame.
  15. If I've never done more than a basic field strip on a pistol before, is the Pro Package too much to attempt? I already have an 85C trigger I want to install, which seems like it requires a huge disassembly anyway... Even if I just drop in all the parts and do no polishing (afraid of polishing away too much) can I expect much improvement?
  16. I thought you were kidding, but nope, there it is in rule 7.3.3: Separately, I can't figure out why that's under 7.3: Appointment of Officials. It seems like a pretty silly rule. I understand why we don't want an RO (or anyone but the competitor conducting the COF) carrying a loaded firearm, but once unloaded, it's just a block of metal on their hip.
  17. That's cool, looks like Range Buddy on Android offers something similar.
  18. Stupid question -- how did you produce that diagram with the stats?
  19. That looks like exactly what I had in mind. I don't mind fitting it, but zeroing in the new sights is not something I've done before...
  20. Seems like a good approach. I've read I should get some spare slide stops anyway.
  21. Yep, I want to put a pro kit on it, but I haven't decided if I'll DIY or send it in. It's my only full-caliber pistol, so I don't really want to be without it for 2-3 months. The flip side is that I'm not sure I'm capable of doing the work on it, I've never done any gunsmithing. I do have an 85C trigger to install on it because it feels better, but I haven't been prepared to go beyond that.
  22. Though the SP-01 has tritium sights (cool), I'm thinking of swapping out for a fiber sight, at least for the front sight. I'd like a slightly narrower front blade and I find FO sights easier to pick up quickly. (I have a FO on my Buckmark 22). As I understand it, this is legal for Production (Appendix D4, 21.6: Sights, firing pins, firing pin retainers, pins, extractors, magazine releases, slide stops, thumb safeties, triggers, hammers, bushings, and ejectors MAY be replaced with OFM or aftermarket parts.) Has anyone else done this? Is there a favored FO sight? Seems like Dawson is the conventional wisdom here. Should I go for 3 fibers, or is a single one easier to pick out? (Yes, I know, some of this comes down to personal preference, but replacing the sights looks like quite an ordeal, at least for the rear sights.)
  23. A new CZ-75 SP-01. Currently completely stock.
  24. So, the general advice I see is for most new shooters to start off in Limited learning the game, even if shooting Limited minor (9mm) as we won't be competitive either way and Limited has somewhat easier rules to comply with (specifically, magazine capacity). Unfortunately, I live in a 10-round state (California), so I'll be changing magazines every 10 rounds either way. Other than having to drop my hammer at the start (which I guess I'll need to practice quite a bit), is there any other disadvantage to just declaring production?
  25. So what is it about the US that requires specific rules? Are there other regions with their own rulebooks?
