  1. Good work on handling it so well. Sounds like you got through it safely, then brushed yourself off and pushed on. I hope I can do the same when I find myself heading for the ground.
  2. I don't know the best way to describe this, but my arms tire quickly when holding my pistol extended in isosceles stance. Obviously I need to build muscles and stamina, but I'm not sure what muscles are most important here. I suppose it's the trapezius and rhomboid muscles, but maybe also the deltoids and biceps? What exercises are good for stamina in this form?
  3. Someone actually did this? I'm glad it's an encounter I've never had...
  4. Unfortunately, not allowed. California has a complete ban on the importation, purchase, sale, etc. (even temporary) of magazines with a >10 round capacity. There is no exemption for competition or travelling through the state. Your PCC rifle is illegal in California, but if it is disassembled (lower detached from upper) then it should be fine, as there is no constructive possession under the law. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...
  5. To be fair, you can have a safe direction in dry fire. If you have a basement, pointing at a wall that is below ground level is a safe direction. You might or might not be willing to destroy the drywall, brickwork, etc., but it will be safe in the sense that nobody will be hurt in the event of an ND.
  6. Where does aandabooks sell his holster hangers? Not familiar with it.
  7. It looks like the input fields have 'norewrite' added to them (perhaps by IP, not sure how it's setup) but would also need 'nolink' to prevent VigLink from trying to insert new links as well as rewriting existing ones.
  8. Yeah, it's hard. Carbs (and beer, which is just more carbs) are currently how I deal with stress... Which, of course, is how I got into this state in the first place.
  9. Oh, no, it's definitely my weight. I'm 5'11" and ~300 lbs, so I'm well into that 100 lbs overweight. Unfortunately, exercise is necessary to get that under control, and exercise is much easier to make sustainable if it's not painful as well. Thanks for the tip on other inserts and getting properly fitted. I'll give that a try this weekend!
  10. Nice, thanks! I wish any of the indoor ranges here allowed action pistol, given that the nearest USPSA matches are ~90 minutes from me...
  11. As mentioned in another thread, I'm trying to go from couch potato to competition shooter. Unfortunately, whenever I try to walk for an extended period of time (>10 minutes) or jog at all, I get significant cramping arch pain. I've tried changing to different shoes, using Dr. Scholls inserts (recommended by their automated kiosk that selects the "right" one for your foot), and nothing is helping. Anyone have experience with this and found something that works? I suspect I should see a podiatrist, but was hoping for some other (cheaper?) options.
  12. Other than the classifiers on uspsa.org, is there somewhere I can go to see a database of various stage designs? As a new shooter, I'd like to go through them and spend some time mentally planning how I would shoot them, and thinking about how the various rules apply to each stage. Even better, is there anywhere where experienced shooters have described their stage plans? I'm sure some of that is secret sauce, but surely not all of it is full of tricks.
  13. Nope, I don't take it as being patronizing at all. It's basically reality -- I'm new to shooting, and like I said above, you don't build up a lot of tough skin from spending all day at a keyboard. Just making sure it wasn't just me.
  14. I'll bring a TRS anyway, because I have a spare, and the CGW floating trigger pin. Just need to find a small compact punch to throw in the toolkit as well. Maybe one of those Real Avid multitools... Thanks for the input!
  15. I recently installed a set of Dawson sights (competition black back, F/O front) and absolutely love it. For the first time, I am punching out round holes at 7-10 yards.
  16. Good points all around. I guess I'll need to bring a punch if I have to replace the TRS or the extractor. Well, that will be something I negotiate at home at somepoint.
  17. Sorry if this is covered elsewhere, I didn't locate a thread. Other than slide stops, which seem somewhat notorious for breaking, what spare parts should I consider having in my range bag?
  18. Interesting, I hadn't considered that. I might reach out to the instructor and ask him what his rationale for this is. This does bring up a point: I intend to train with several instructors so I can compare and contrast technique and find out what works best for me.
  19. For the class, they wanted to do over-the-top racking for it all. Presumably because of their "tactical" focus, and a claim that it's somehow faster.
  20. You're not wrong, was just trying to figure out which it was. It's probably a combination of the class (yes, we reloaded at slide lock probably 20 times, and did another 20 or so malfunction clearing drills, and had to ULSC another 20 times, so I was racking the slide quite a bit) and of some "nancy girl hands" (ok, not quite, but my dayjob has me at a keyboard, so definitely no comparison to @mro111lland's experiences as a diesel mechanic)
  21. Thanks for the useful input.
  22. Does anyone else find the CZ slide serrations (such as on my SP-01) very hard on the fingers? I took a class today where we practiced malfunction drills, combat reloads, and other techniques that resulted in racking the slide a lot. By the end of the day, much of my body was sore, but my weak hand index finger and thumb were positively raw. In fact, my weak hand index finger has a blood blister which I believe to be from the slide serrations. Now maybe I'll get used to it over time, or stop doing classes with so much racking, or build up calluses, but I'm curious if others have this experience and have suggestions on technique, protection, etc.
  23. It looks like @cjmill87 was referring to the grinding above the trigger guard, in front of the takedown lever. I don't know if it violates the rule, but I could see that as a thumb rest.
  24. I just completed my biannual Red Cross First Aid/AED/CPR recert, but getting into the shooting sports, I was wondering about finding something more like TCCC, but that seems to only be available for LE/Military. Can someone recommend something for the "layperson" in terms of trauma training?
  25. So I finally got to the range yesterday and mostly got the sights zeroed. It seemed to be shooting a little low, but unfortunately my groups are so large that I can't be sure. Looks like I'll need to try a pistol rest or sandbags to really get it dialed in...
