  1. Good idea. I'll try to remember to do that at our SC match next weekend.
  2. OK, weird was not the right word, different is what I meant. It's true that those on this forum are a drop in the bucket. But I'd bet more people would be in favor of dropping the movement than not.
  3. " That alone is worth keeping OL" Really!!! Well then, let's do some other weird thing and that would be a reason to keep that weird thing, and then another, and then another....
  4. That's fine, take the penalty. My ability to run fast and get up from kneeling (down is the easy part) is not good either. But USPSA is a run and gun sport. Steel Challenge is not, except for that one stage. Just eliminating the movement in that one stage, without altering any other aspect of the entire system, is such a simple thing that would open the sport up to more people seems to be a no-brainer to me. I'll grant you this will not make a huge difference in attendance. But it doesn't hurt anything and it can and will help some, so why not.
  5. No, life isn't fair, but that doesn't mean that we can't try to make it a little better for those less fortunate. It's called human kindness and compassion.
  6. Everyone varies in their mobility. Certainly age is a big factor, give it another 10 years Moto But the big thing to me is that it is the only stage where movement is required and since everything else is purely a shooting test, why is this movement needed. "There are very few sports where able-bodied and less-able can compete on equal terms, wouldn’t it be great if a shooting contest was one of them? " This quote by Britan really says it all.
  7. Kelson, I don't consider it a slight or unfairness. That's not what I meant. It just seems to me that the times are pretty good then for 90 to 95% of the shooters (to use your figures) so why make a change that affects everybody when it's so few that shoot that fast. It seems easier to make another class for those elite few.
  8. Are there any wear patterns on the bottom of your bolt (or the mag) that might indicate the bolt striking the mag ever so slightly? Can you get with a friend who has a different brand lower and compare the two side by side to see any difference?
  9. OK, let me see if I understand the cause of discussion about peak times. Is it--there are more shooters shooting better than 100% (faster than the peak time), therefore some think the peak times should be adjusted upward? That would then affect all shooters making it harder to achieve any desired class given that it takes a % of peak time to do it. 1. Are there that many people who shoot that fast? I wouldn't think so. 2. If there really are that many, how about establishing another class-super GM- just for those folks? Then it wouldn't make it that much harder for us normal humans who struggle as is. Why skew the entire system just for a relatively small % of the overall shooters?
  10. I would be in favor of throwing out OL. It's the only stage that requires movement. Everything else is strictly a test of shooting, including the long shots. That is how I view steel challenge- a shooting contest. As Moto says, there are plenty of other sports/games that include movement.
  11. I have several mags and have a bunch of rounds through them- I'd guess way more than 4-5K. Mine all work fine. I'm using a JP gmr-15 fwiw. Sounds like more of a follower or spring problem to me.
  12. At a shoot today they announced that the area 4 steel challenge match will be at Old Fort Gun Club in Ft. Smith. I think he said Oct. but I'm not sure now. My brain is fried after the shoot and drive home.
  13. Plate racks, stars, polish plate racks, and other devious creations I don't know the names of; you might want a few more rounds.
  14. Just curious. Why are you trying to hide the flash? Are you shooting at night? I've never even thought about flash.
  15. There are several other variables to consider besides load. They all work together to get the desired result. It can be mind boggling at times too. But,FWIW, my load is a 124 fmj rn bullet from RMR with 4.2 gr WSF at 1.120. My buffer has 4 steel and 1 tungston short stroke scs. All in a JP gmr15 with 14.5 barrel and comp.
  16. With the new JP5 coming out I'd look around for a used GMR15. I just bought a second one myself.
  17. I have a different gun, but my SC load is a 100 gr bullet over 2.8-2.9 gr of titegroup at 1.00 oal. This works great out of my 14.5 barrel with comp. There is no PF requirement in SC.
  18. I use wsf in my jp gmr-15. I'm using 124 fmj rn from RMR at 4.2-3 gr at 1.120 col. Gives me 130-135 pf.
  19. You can find it on the JP website for their guns. It turns a regular length stroke/travel of the bolt into a shorter stroke so the next shot can be made faster. IF your finger is fast enough.
  20. I have two 40 and two 30 rd ets mags and they work fine for me. I've had the 40's for a couple of years or so and the 30's for about a year. I usually shoot at least three matches of some kind every month.
  21. I think Seeklander said it best in the video above. You just have to experiment and find what's comfortable for YOU. What Max or he does may not be right for you. I just shot Area 4 on a squad with max and other great shooters. Trust me, where you hold your hand is not what makes them great. They all move FAST and with NO wasted motion. They just flow through the stages.
