  1. Ok back at the bench this morning. Flipped my seater plug back around to the round profile and am much happier with how bullets are seating. Redid plunk test. Started plunking at 1.16something. I shortened up to 1.135 and it seems like money! Cycled a handful of dummies through mag and it cycles real nicely. Going to start at 3.9 and work up to best accuracy while carefully inspecting brass.
  2. I had a 1911 lock up on me once. I stopped and it cooled a bit then went back into battery and I managed to keep shooting. Thinking it was lack of lube on a newer gun. I lubed it real good shot another round then traded it off.
  3. About the only thing I buy anymore is Keen. They are great for anything outdoors and totally waterproof.
  4. I would have to agree that time has to be made for shooting. I have two kids and am a stay at home dad. I resigned when we had our first so one of us could stay home to care for them. I keep guns and ammo with me all the time. Drop at preschool and off to the range I go. Some days the old guys are there on the range and I have to turn and burn back home without firing a shot. Other days I get the place to myself and can shoot for an hour and head for home. Sometimes in passing I stop and shoot a few mags worth. What ever I can do to practice a little. Being down an income also plays a role. During the early childhood years and post Sandy Hook I didn't shoot much at all. I never leave brass on the range. I sort out what I hand load for and the rest I sell for scrap. It sucks sifting through the garbage barrel at the range but I have walked away with some good hauls. Keeps me shooting for next to nothing. I also do a little mechanic work out of the house. Keeps the pizza, fishing supplies and ammo coming. If your working too much maybe its time to find another job and change up the lifestyle. Life's too short to work it away. My kids should have some good memories of dad taking them down the river fishing, shooting bows, camping in the back yard, riding 4 wheelers, and blasting the Halloween pumpkins and hedge apples on the gun range.....Fun stuff! As far as matches go I would love to try IDPA sometime but I seem to live in a dead zone for any kind of gun stuff.
  5. Maintenance.............Glock.........Whaaaaaaat??????? I shoot mine and throw it back in the range bag. Cheap enough to buy another to also keep in the range bag incase something dies(but it never does). Don't trust it anymore? Sell it off and pick up a fresh one. They can be found on any street corner like used cars. Glocks make life easy. I sold all my other guns.
  6. I dumped my 1911 too. Whats nice about Glocks is their cheap and you can have many. Especially buying on the used market. Its a buyers market right now. I would go 17 or 17Lmos for the range and a 19 and 43 for carry. No messy with the bang switch. Spend your cash on ammo and mags.
  7. I had one of those still in the original Tupperware. Never warmed up to it. It kicked like a mule and I couldn't hit a darn thing with it. 50k is impressive. Sell her off and grab a fresh one.
  8. Yes I'll buy another if it's a good price and stick it out in the garage. Handy compact unit. Can't loose with a blue press.
  9. Is there a formula for how much bullet is in the case and how to adjust powder charge? Am I overthinking this?
  10. I played around with that last night. Don't recall where I was at. Bullet to me looks funky. It has a large bearing surface compared to the FMJ. I did the plunk followed by a magic marker then spun it around. I got a bit of rubbing at the beginning of the bearing surface shoulder. I put the flat seater plug in. Wonder if the bullet is not perfectly aligned. Going to switch to the round one and seat a few more and plunk them.
  11. I started on a single stage then went to a SDB and consolidated to 9mm like you. Set it up and only did 9mm about the same amount as your needs. I sold it last year and made the move to a XL650. The case feeder alone is worth the upgrade. Other things that are better with the 650 is leverage. Its easier to work and provides more room to work. At the same time if your looking to save space the SDB is much more compact. Not going to go wrong with either. That SDB was a nice little unit. Much more capability and better ergos with the 650. For me the time burglar aspect of loading is what pushed me into a 650. Nice to be able to fill powder dump brass and start loading. May add a bullet feeder if I start doing more volume. I believe I started doing this to" save money "?
  12. I scored a used one in the two hundred range. Included extra parts kit, 9,40,45 dies and a bunch of tool heads with a home brew mount. I used it for several years pitched the mount and just sold it for $400 extremely quick.
  13. I worked out of a small garage for 9 years. Kept dies and components inside. Never an issue with rust. I kept everything real clean and lubed after I was done with a loading session. Dehumidifier would be a good idea depending how nice your equipment is.
  14. Hello all, new guy here looking to learn a few things about hand loading. Been lurking awhile now. Its time to start doing some loading now that my new Dillon XL650 is setup. I have the family of Glock 9mm launchers. I have 2k Precision Delta 115grn JHP. I am somewhat new to the 9mm as far as loading goes and have never loaded anything but LRN or plated round nose bullets. I started on revolvers 357 mag and 44 mag then onto the 1911 45acp. Kind of at a loss as where to start with these bullets as far as OAL. I see data out there for XTP and GDHP bullets. OAL and powder charge is all over the place. I have 8lbs of Titegroup I would like to use for these. Nothing special to use them for. Just shooting steel and punching paper. Anybody out there shooting these that could guide me on how to figure them out?
  15. New guy in the house from NW Indiana. Been lurking awhile. I hope to learn more about shooting (taking skills to the next level) and hand loading. New Dillon XL650 on the bench and the family of Glock 9mm pistols to feed. Hello everyone and look forward to my next adventures in the shooting sports!
