Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Thank you for the reply. I would bet that the person that’s wrote the IDPA rules previously worked at the DMV. Thanks again
  2. I recently bought a s&w 625 JM. I would like to buy a Apex “bobbed” hammer kit for it. However, I cannot seem to find a straight answer to the question “is it legal in ESR division”?. Josh Lentz (sponsored by S&W) uses one on his 625 JM for IDPA. Has anyone used one in a tier 3-5 match on there revolver and passed equipment check without any “investigation” from the SO’s or MD’s? Appreciate the help.
  3. Thank you for the reply’s. I do have a couple pounds of red dot left, so I might give that a try as well. I will be shooting a 230 gr Berry’s TMJ. I do have allot of Sport Pistol that I use for 9mm minor and 40 major in USPSA. Anyone worked up a load for 45acp using SP?
  4. So here’s the story. I just purchased a s&w 625 jm 4”. I will be jumping over to ESR division in IDPA (I want more of a challenge). I noticed the PF to make major is 155. While looking at reloading manuals I noticed all the starting loads were in the 740-770 fps. With is well over my desired vel/PF. I want to be in the 161-165PF/700fps range. So my question is; what powders have you guys used or know of that perform well at lower velocities? I’ve heard certain powders can leave flakes of un burnt powder when not pushed to the higher side of things and velocities can get kind of erratic. The ones I’ve heard recommended are WST, 231, CLAYS and a couple others I can’t remember right know. What do you guys find to work well with those lighter .45acp loads? Thanks.
  5. I’ve been told at a match once that if the case is cracked it won’t go into the chamber freely. Is this correct?
  6. Thank you for the responses. The chamber checking I do no mater what, I use my barrel. It’s the (rolling two loaded cases at a time in my fingers with a headlamp on, to see for any small cracks in the casings). That is the part that takes the longest and that I am wondering if it is necessary? Thanks again.
  7. After loading bulk ammo I generally case gauge all my rounds then visually inspect each round for cracks and imperfections. My question is. Do you guys do the same? Is it necessary to visually inspect each round? What is your final process after reloading bulk (1-2,000 rnds) Pistol cartridges? side note, they are used for competition (USPSA).
  8. Thank you all for the replies. I just ordered 4lbs of Sport Pistol and am goin to work up some loads. I’ll let you know my results if any of you are interested. After quite a bit of research I have yet to hear anything negative about SP.
  9. To bowenbuilt. Do you have a pet load for the SP (40 major)? And what would be a good start load? I’m shooting a STI EDGE Benny Hill custom with a 5” KKM Bull barrel. I will load to 1.185 oacl. And how does it meter? I have a Dillon xl650.
  10. I’m currently using titegroup for my 9 minor and 40 major loads. The titegroup load is recent and seems to be working fine. I’m using 5.1 gr, 180 Berry’s fp, mixed brass, 1.185” oacl, PF 171. My question is. Is it worth the extra cost to get vvn320? And are the differences noticeable? If so, what are the differences that justified the extra cost of using vvn320? Thank you.
  11. Some days you shoot better than others. Try shooting 200-300 rounds in a range session and see if it gets better after the first 100.
  12. I’ve done it quite a bit and have never had a problem.
  13. Thanks riggerjj that was very helpful. ??. Not sure why I didn’t think of that before.
  14. And if anyone else wants to chime in about the load I’m using and your opinion about it, please do. The more info I get from shooters with close to identical loads the more comfortable I will feel with it. Thank you. (Not sure why I waited so long to register on this forum)??
  15. Awesome, thank you for the reply. I really like the way it feels it just made me a tad nervous when I couldn’t find any other loads as high as mine.
