  1. Sometimes I live by the motto, " let's see what we can f**k with next"! It usually works, this one bit me. I tried to upload the " before" picture but it won't go. This is how it looked after I tweaked it tonight, I thought it was maybe a little small with the first try. Since I took it apart yesterday during a match I didn't really look close to see how it was lined up. After removing the pin I had it lined up nice this time, figured this sucker is going to fly ! NOPE, tried jacking rounds through it in the basement and had a few that wouldn't feed. Three different mags, it was hit and miss. Experiment over, I indexed my new feed ramp 90*, so now there is extra clearance for the brass to fly out of the ejection port. Tried running rounds through it again and EVERY one went. Will shoot it a little tomorrow to verify, but I think it will be fine. Another match Sunday, I sure hope so ! Oh well, nothing ventured, nothing gained!
  2. 115gr RN, Xtreme.....1.120 OAL, this never changed Mine is similar in size, but it was probably an alignment issue. With the pin being gone, I can line it up no probbo !
  3. When I take it apart again tonite I will post a pic.
  4. I stand corrected, but it says they are still selling, maybe just trying to squelch on debt?
  5. Time to bear my soul, for intel gathering and a learning opportunity. A few weeks back I decided to grind a feed ramp into my Kaw Valley barrel. It didn't have one and I have seen pics of this being done before, including one from Max on this forum. Granted the gun has never not chambered a round, not once, but I figured if the 360* chamfer around the chamber hole worked, a feed ramp would make it better ! This kind of stems from the TF +10 base pad not working worth a f**k, so I thought this may help, not to mention it makes sense. After all, John Moses Browning made it work 115yrs ago, right ? So I ground the feed ramp in and shot the gun this last Friday and Saturday, all good. Not to mention I've also shot it in the last week or so doing chrono testing working up a few different loads. Fast forward to first stage today, the gun won't feed hardly at all ! 68 seconds in and about 10 rounds dumped out of the gun I quit. Four targets not engaged and the last one I did shoot at had one hole in it equals a ZERO for that stage! Time to think on your feet! I volunteered to go first on the next stage to see if this was really going to be my day. On " make ready" the round wouldn't even chamber. I walked off the line, before the buzzer went off and headed for home, to take drastic measures to fix this gun that I probably messed up in the first place. One match earlier in the year I had the roll pin that holds the charge handle latch walk it's way down and hang up on the upper, preventing the bolt from going to battery. The whole ride home I was thinking maybe this was the problem? Got home and took the charge handle out, nope all good. The first charge handle was a cheapy, this one is a Strike Industries at about 40$. So, on to plan B. Since the only thing that changed since the last match was my home made feed ramp, it had to go away. I pulled the barrel off and tried to pull the orientation pin out. Not happening, press fit in the hole. ( FYI, that is manufacturing no no 101. NEVER press fit into a blind hole! ) Get out the trusty file and file the pin down. Luckily it was soft and filed quite easily, if it would have been a dowell pin, I was done for the day. With the pin filed down, I clocked the barrel 90* and put it back together. The reason for this being I didn't want the feed ramp on top, I thought it would be out of the way better on the side? Gun put back together, load a mag with 5 rounds and cycle them out on the floor, all good! I head back to the range and my squad was just walking down from the stage I had left from. It was still empty so the RO ran me quick and we continued on with our day. ( I forgot to mention I live about 4 minutes from this club, lucky for me !) My gun ran flawless the rest of the day! Because of the bad stage my overall wasn't very good, but the rest of the stages were pretty decent, especially considering my muzzle brake was also clocked 90* to the side. Read that as the little holes on top being at 9 o'clock ! Being what it was I was pretty happy. So the million dollar question...............................I shared this to try to figure out what happened. In my short time here so far there are a lot of knowledgeable people willing to put well informed ideas out there, I'm all ears. Also, if you want to call me a dumbass for grinding a ramp in my barrel, feel free. I may deserve it but it also may be the ramp isn't big enough ! Depending on what I get for feedback, that may be on the agenda for tomorrow after work ?
  6. Does anyone have any intel on the 2019 Area 5 PCC championship ? I am of the understanding the planning is happening now .
  7. Not at all, just didn't want to come across as a dumbass!
  8. I apologize but I am not familiar with Mr. Vigler's work, nor could I find any info on him. Something like the Creedmore position for silhouette shooting ?
  9. The Max comment was a joke and was intended to induce a smIle .
  10. When I built my gun I bought a Spinta bolt/upper combo, blem of course. They both seem to be just fine so far. If I ever need to replace the bolt I will review this thread and make my decision from there. I do have the awesome Taccom3 buffer, so a matching Nb bolt would probably be the way to go ! The one nice thing about the Spinta bolt was I was able to take the weight out of it when I put the Taccom3 buffer in, I don't think you can do that with all of them?
  11. For my first and so far only PCC I bought a Joe Bob lower. I was going to buy a stripped and build it from there but I paid $239 for a complete lower with everything except the stock, hard to beat that price wise. From my reading here they are made by the same company that makes the 9mm lowers for Palmetto State Armory. The only change was the Taccom3 buffer system, but the Kaw Valley that came with it worked 100% and was just fine, although not as soft. I'm sure there are better ones, you will hear about ALL of them, but this one really works and has a HUGE magwell to boot! Also it feeds 100% so don't let anyone tell you the angle the mag sits at is wrong. My two cents. PS to that, if I were to do another gun, I would probably go with a QC10 lower and start from there. I have no interest in an off the shelf gun and a lot of people on here who know way more about this game than me ( for now that is) recommend them a lot. Truth be told, I never heard of QC10 before I joined this forum. Not to mention Max uses QC10 lowers and watch him shoot !
  12. That is a good one and very true !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is a great idea ! My default plan if the RO was an anti PCC dude was to lay on my back and hold the hand guard between my knees, then I could pull the charge handle back with my left hand and flag it with my right ! Bet you wish YOU would have thought of that ?????????????????
  13. There was something on her a week or so ago on a different thread. Someone mentioned timing a comp to minimize the up and right movement of the barrel when a right handed shooter shoots. I guess it could work, providing there is enough gas going through the comp to make it work ?
  14. Now that we are back from our Labor Day camping and trapshooting weekend, it is back to business ! I did chrono 5 rounds with 4.2 of Power Pistol and they were all plus or minus 15fps of 1100fps, just like we thought.( did you notice I hijacked your knowledge and made it ours ?) Seriously, thanks for the heads up ! I like the Power Pistol load and will be buying more !
  15. I guess everyone has a different story to tell ? They have worked for me for years so I'm in ! If they aren't working for you, buy Montana Gold, it's pretty hard to get a better bullet !
  16. I agree. I have tried bullets in the past ( JHP bullets, not plated) that had the lead core so far off center the bullet could not fly straight. This was a one time deal with a bullet I was not familiar with. I was actually installing a fiber optic front sight on a hand gun and the ammo was provided for sighting in purposes. Needless to say the sighting in with this ammo was not successful ! If this problem with Xtreme bullets was that common and widespread they would be out of business !
  17. Maybe I am missing something here?????????????????????? I have loaded Xtreme bullets for years, as has one friend of mine. Neither of us has ever had an issue with accuracy when using these bullets. Even though this is my first year shooting PCC, I do have a pretty good point of reference with these bullets. Myself and the above mentioned friend each bought 1000 110gr .30M1 bullets from Xtreme a few years back and came up with our own deal and went shooting. Mine were a bit faster, 1900fps or so, and performed flawlessly, as far as accuracy and feeding/not breaking up. The rumor is no more than 1600fps with platred bullets. If others are having that much trouble with Xtreme bullets, I just don't see it.
  18. I question that statement. I load Xtreme bullets and can destroy a 1" orange target dot at 25yds.( with a Bushnell dot ) 6" at 25yds seems a bit of a stretch, unless you possess the one barrel in the free world that pukes out plated bullets ?
  19. Good point, there is no reason for this! Also with all the posts on here, it is an issue ! I may try to send mine back and get another MBX mini !
  20. I have one with a Glock big stick. Two times I have sanded the edges of the follower, hit and miss. I tried it with an ETS mag, too big a step on the back side to work at all. The TF is very frustrating, it may work for a while, then not. It seems to be ok with up to 37rds. I have a Dawson +4 on an ETS and an MBX mini on a Glock and both are 100% For big capacity MBX is the way to go !
  21. Nice job Svengali ! The 4.0gr load average( I only loaded 4 rds) was 1060fps ! The 4.4gr load average was 1150fps ! Nice work! When I get time I will make a few at 4.2gr and tell you they averaged 1115 fps, which would be perfect ! I liked the Power Pistol, I could tell no difference between the three loads I mentioned in this thread and this one. I have 2# of IMR 4756 to use up then the Power Pistol is next, although once I get it dialed in I will load enough for one match to really try it out. Even though it was only 4 rds, the 4.4 gr load didn't deviate any more than 15pfs or so, very impressive!
  22. Not that I'm aware of. It really isn't a problem though, just a different way to load the gun than I was used to. I would imagine the spring in it is weighted for factory 115gr loads, I would probably not want to change it. If you have to buy ammo at a match, you could have problems.
  23. I was guessing at 4.0gr. What you say makes much sense and I will whip up a few at 4.4gr. The bullet depth makes sense also...........I do find some spikes in different loads from time to time. The 115gr bullet is short and I have been loading to 1.125 OAL. I originally came up with that length loading 147gr bullets, and they fed real nice in a gun with no feed ramp, so I left it alone. Those may actually have been 1.150 OAL ? Since then I added a feed ramp, ( courtesy of my Dremel and a pic that Max posted here of his barrel extension) so I wouldn't think a 1.100 OAL would bother the feeding at all.
  24. I tried your load with Power Pistol tonight. I dropped it down to 5.0gr though, I'm glad I did. Three rounds, break, three more rounds, average just a bit over 1300fps, a bit stout for my taste. I loaded 8 more with 4.0gr, next chance I get I will test again and report back. Thanks for the heads up though, I couldn't find s**t for data loading that powder with a 9mm. The 5.0gr load showed no pressure issues, just too fast for me. I think the 4.0gr load may work quite well ! I use Xtreme plated bullets only! ( unless I were to get something else for free). A good friend of mine has a plastic 35 gal barrel in his basement full of cut up pieces of tires. He uses it for testing loads out and being able to recapture the bullet for analysis. He says the plated bullets do real well in this environment but the SNS or other coated bullets always lose much of the coating. FWIW
