Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. This is great feedback and why I really do love this site even though I have been absent for some time. For me precision is being able to hit the 1000yd silhouette targets at MTC if I can call the wind correct. 1 MOA should be more than enough and I am confident the 308 semi I have for longer range shooting can do that. I will keep the 550C, install both and get to reloading. Thanks again!
  2. Noob question #1 for me today - Several years ago I got a 550C kit in a trade and never got around to setting the press up and actually reloading. Ammo prices were so cheap it didn't make financial sense and real life (new job, new marriage) was getting in the way of shooting anyway. Fast forward to this July and with the intent of becoming more self reliant a longtime reloader I know through a family connection recommended a LGS for accessories, powders, primers, etc and they have been great. They spent several hours on my press walking me through setup of the toolheads, dies and loading a few rounds in 3 different calibers (9, 556, 308) Before I installed the 550C back at home I took a 750XL in trade thinking I would use that for 9/556 and then the 550C for 308. Assuming 3gun gets back to normal next year around me the bulk of my reloading will be 9/556 for 3gun/USPSA with 308 just for long range if/when I ever get out to the very few ranges we have in MI that are 600+ yards. I am not a precision shooter and I really only shoot 3gun/USPSA for fun and to keep some level of proficiency shooting. I think the 550C would be enough 'precision' for me and I could load 308 and maybe 556 target loads on that without issue. The only thing I would consider would be transferring everything that I can from the 550C to the 750XL, selling the 550C and putting that money into a single stage with hopefully a little left over. So..... if the single stage was the same price I wouldn't consider selling the 550C as the potential improvement in precision isn't worth it for me. If I could do everything on the single I could on the 550C (slower...) and I could get a few hundred dollars back to be used for primers, bullets, brass would I regret it in the future? I guess my long winded question would be does the 550C have several hundred dollars in value over a precision single stage for very limited use?
  3. Hi Todd, Please add me to the waitlist for 1 box (5000) of the 9mm standard sort fully processed. Thanks! Seif
  4. Not trying to hijack the thread but I have a question for someone with experience here. I was also looking for a 'hybrid' suppressor to use on multiple firearms and some of the information from the interwebs (so it must be true...) is that the actual rifle system itself has a lot to do with overall noise. I wouldn't expect hollywood quiet out of anything but if you take say a SiCo Omega and 3 - 4 different 300 Blk uppers with different gas blocks, charging handles, barrel length, etc could you see a noticeable difference in noise level at the shooter?
  5. Browning Buckmark (Bullseye :)), HK USP > Glock 17 > Glock 34 > 2011 I tried USPSA several years ago w/ the USP but it just didn't click with me at the time (not the fault of the USP) then I recently took up 3gun with the G17 which I just had. The G34 was my first dedicated purchase for competition (TY BE Classifieds!) and I recently picked up a 2011 that I will use next season for the first time. For my skill level and competition desires I could have easily 'tuned' the G34 a bit and been fine. I lose more time loading a shotgun and missing with my rifle than I could ever make up with a better pistol but once you shoot the 2011 it just feels right.
  6. This. Also for my latest purchase I did use one of the credit card offers to get back $500 if you spend $3k in the first 3 months. This isn't something you can do all the time without affecting your credit score but it may help.
  7. Throw in some anxiety about match procedures (shooting my first 3gun match this weekend), trying not to do anything unsafe, worrying about getting DQ'd, knowing that my cardio/conditioning isn't really where it needs to be and still improving some serious 'shooters elbow' that flares up anytime I grip a pistol and extend my arms..... Yes, a bit overwhelmed and I haven't even gotten to the shooting part yet. I am following the sage advice of going slow, being safe and having fun for the next few weeks as I get into the sport.

    Two Eyes Open

This for me also. I spent a range session trying to shoot both eyes open and I was pleasantly surprised. Nowhere near as accurate yet and my brain kept cycling between target, single front sight, two front sights, etc. but I was hitting roughly point of aim. I still have a bad habit (I think) of looking at the target in the middle of a 3 - 5 shot string and having to refocus on the sight.
  9. Second on the gyro strength trainer! https://powerballs.com/applications/wrist-rehab/ I am not sure the LCD is worth if for everyone but I like the feedback.
  10. I didn't know the location wasn't enable - Clarkston, MI which is a bit outside MO My biggest issue is the consistent pull/push to the left and my self diagnosis that I am mixing a weaver/iso arm extension so that when the gun returns from recoil I start to bring my right wrist back in line with my right forearm. It could be as simple as just making sure my left elbow stays higher and doesn't tuck in? Again, I just starting back up and hope to get some real time feedback from team and squadmates in the near future. Copied and understood on the stance feedback.
  11. Are you saying good as in correct hand placement, grip strength or both? In addition to other things I am trying to work my way through some 'shooters elbow' pain which really presents itself when I extend my arms. I can grip at full strength with my hands touching my chest but once they go out....... a whole different story.
  12. I am not confident I am good to go on the fundamentals. There could be something there...... This is something I will definitely check out the next time I am shooting. I was looking for drill or things I can do when I shoot and this is definitely something I will try. Thanks to all for the feedback! I have taken some lessons from my local range but think sooner rather than later I need to move to lessons from a competitive shooter who understands what is needed to go from where I am at to semi-competent.
  13. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0z03xkwFbw4 Aside from the speaker being a bit dry this is one of the best short videos I have seen on diet. He doesn't advocate a specific diet but talks about how food affects blood glucose and how some people can tolerate different foods while keeping blood glucose and therefore insulin levels low/consistent. I have to believe within 10 years we will see more people continuously monitoring their blood glucose and being much 'healthier', happier and flexible with their eating. The TLDR for the video is that there isn't a 'best' diet for humans but a best diet for the individual but to get there you need to know how your body reacts to different foods and that information is hard to gather without continuous monitoring. Keto and IF (20/4) is amazing for me and works with my lifestyle but it is very restrictive and borderline anti-social when it comes to work events. I really think Paleo/Primal is the long term solution for myself and plan on transitioning there sometime this year.
  14. Any suggestions on a specific exercise or plan? 45 yr old shooter here and I bought the brock string but that has been sitting on my to-do list for a few months.....
  15. I think I know the best answer to my question here (practice and repetition) but I thought I would ask for some intermediate tips. As a non-competitive shooter I have used the weaver stance or something similar for the past 20 years. Now I am starting USPSA/3gun and I have been trying to move to an Iso stance but having some issues. Something I find I am doing quite often especially when trying to shoot faster is as the pistol returns from recoil it starts to drift left of center or left of my previous point of aim. If I try not to move my head/eyes it looks like the front sight will get hidden behind the left rear sight (right handed shooter) and I need to twist a touch to the right to get back on center target. If I pick up my pistol (G17, but also with others) take one shot, put it down, pick it up one shot, etc. I am keep the shots relatively in the center but when I follow up I tend to walk the shots out to the left. This is maybe 1-2" at 7yds and then 3"-6" at 20yds. Anyone else go through this and have any tips?
