Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. The plug does pop out but I don’t think it’s really meant as storage although it could be used as such. Instead of cutting the full size stock, I just got a compact stock for the right LOP. The recoil pad that comes with it is rather thin but that’s easily fixed with a Kickeez or Limbsaver.
  2. I’d do the same. In my case, I like the oversized handle and release that came with the Affinity 3. I’m keeping the stock handle on the gun and replaced the release with a GG&G release as my primary. The stock release (which is actually pretty good) goes in my spare kit. No fitting required. Just move all the parts over to the A&S guard and you’re good to go. You’ll have three extra parts as they eliminate/replace the carrier plunger washer and a couple of pins. Another reason I like the metal guard is that I like to detail strip my guns regularly and the metal guard will resist the wear of doing so frequently. Frankly unless you’re doing the Briley trigger upgrade or will be detail stripping a lot, for the cost I’d just stick with the stock guard. It’ll work just fine for most people. I’ll be using stock trigger guard as a backup trigger pack.
  3. I’m not sure it would survive 3 Gun matches where shotguns are thrown (“placed”) in barrels. Probably better suited for O/U shotguns (of which the better models usually come with such ribs).
  4. Any Benelli M2 safety will work but there’s a small cosmetic lip on the trigger guard that sometimes prevents oversized safeties from completely seating depending on the shape/orientation of the safety button. However, my TTI safety has worked perfectly even if rotated 45* so a corner hits the lip. An oversized round safety would be even better.
  5. Hard to tell from the auction’s picture but it appears to be an Affinity and not the updated Affinity 3/3.5? Not that it makes a difference. As far as I can tell, the only difference is a minor change to the magazine tube (no longer needs to be polished), oversized handle and catch. When you add in the Compact stock (which I had to order for $80), that’s a screaming deal.
  6. For me, cutting in a feed ramp into the trigger guard makes a very big difference in the ease of loading. The A&S trigger guard also has the benefit of consistency. I love that it’s metal so I can rest assured that the component parts will stay in precisely the same position relative to each other. While I have no doubt the polymer guard works fine, I saw a video (by Fred at A&S) demonstrating that trigger guards can have manufacturing tolerance differences. It’s one of the reasons Briley recommends using this trigger guard if you get their trigger upgrade. There’s nothing wrong with the polymer guard. In fact, I like how the hump gives me a steeper loading angle. The A&S feedramp is DEEP and WIDE. You can see it in my A&S guard vs my modded polymer trigger guard (a 3/4” dowel and some sandpaper) pictures. I plan to use my polymer trigger guard as my spare trigger group. The only downside (and it’s a stretch) is that both polymer and A&S trigger guards were made with the stock safety in mind. My TT safeties will catch on a small cosmetic lip, preventing it from depressing all the way. However even if blocked, the safety always functions properly. I sanded the lip off my polymer guard so it’s not an issue and the A&S guard’s lip is so small that I can live with it.
  7. Jeff opened up my loading port but wasn’t aggressive about it. Always easier to take off metal than put it back on. The cut is milled then hand finished. Looks very nice and precise. I’ll run it and see how it feels before deciding if I want to take more off. Once I’m 100% sure, I’ll have the receiver ceracoted. Loading is already easier on the Franchi because the low profile handguard flows right into the receiver. Lots of folks will shave down the rear of the M2 handguard to aid in follow through. No need with the Franchi. However that slimness (and Inertia system underneath) does make mounting a Match Saver more difficult. I’m probably going to rivet mine to the handguard and not mess with screws. Jeff’s welded lifter service is very well done also. You can’t see the welds so it looks stock. Makes a huge difference.
  8. I like Briley on the upper end and Carlson on the lower end. I went with Briley on the M2 and Carlson for my Franchi and Mossberg. Frankly I’d stick with Carlson if I had to do it again. I have the following extended choke sets for each shotgun: CYL, IC, LM, M, IM, F, EF. Yes, I like my chokes.
  9. My Mossberg 590A1 pump and Franchi Affinity are great values. Excellent fit and finish. Very versatile for SD and hunting use but also perfect for competition with very low cost tweaks.
  10. I bought a 26” Franchi Affinity 3.0 12ga with the intention of using it as a backup to a M2 Field. However when I got it, I found that I really liked the Franchi! What a great shotgun for $600. I ordered the compact stock for a shorter LOP and have been adjusting drop/cast. It’s patterning perfectly. I also undercut the trigger guard with a feed ramp. Turned out pretty nice but then I saw A&S Engineering’s enhanced M2 trigger guard. Talking to them, I found out the Franchi version was available so I snagged one. Great piece of kit! Finished the trigger group off with a Taran Tactical safety and springs. I may have Briley do their trigger parts swap for 922r. I also added a GG&G oversized catch release but kept the stock oversized handle. Next I had C-RUMS open up the loading port and weld the lifter. Jeff does a great job. His welded lifter is even nicer than the Taran Tactical M2 lifter I have. Next I picked up a Carbon Arms M3K monotube magazine and am having the receiver end rethreaded (won’t fit Franchi). Also added a Hiviz Tricomp sight and Or3gun follower. I’m pretty much done other than stippling the handguard, ceracoting some parts, and maybe milling in a rear sight for slugs. Some thoughts: - no bolt mod needed to ghost load the Franchi - 40min under a heat gun to remove the magazine - many parts are Benelli M2 compatible - fit and finish are definitely Benelli - it’s weight biased more forward than the M2 - polishing the magazine really smooths the action - reliably cycles everything I feed it
