  1. I have a 2011 I’ve been working on and I would like to have the frame DLC when I’m done can someone recommend a good company to go with?
  2. Looking to have some front cocking serrations to my single stack gun. Anyone have a good recommendation for someone to do the work?
  3. Helping a friend who is starting to do USPSA setup their Glock. Plan on running in carry optics and had a bunch of stock gen 5 Glock 17 (17 rounds) mags. I’ve always shot single stack or 2011s so not as familiar with Glock stuff. I did run a CZ SP01 in CO for a little bit and used a mix of Henning and TTI base pads. That along with my Shadow Systems MR920 that has some TTI extensions on the Glock 19’ish mags. Is there a company that produces the best for Glock? If not my thought is to recommend going with Henning basepads. I’ve seen Taylor Freelance on some local shooters as well but I don’t have any experience with them. One local Glock shooter had (2) 24 round MBX Glock mags then reloads to standard y extended mags. what would you recommend for a friend? (If you were in my shoes)
  4. The saying it’s the Indian not the arrow is an apt one. I often recommend for new and starting shooters to buy less expensive guns and ammo over more expensive guns. Training and experience will win out over most things. If funds aren’t an issue sure buy whatever and later after you have experience if you want a nicer gun sure
  5. move had opposite experience. My Athena has run great has had no issues but for I knocked the front sight loose. I called them got an answer and they sent me an RMA return label that day. Shipped them the slide and had the gun up and running the end of the next week. I also have an older Nemesis and it’s run well for 10k+ rounds with only having an extractor issue a few thousand rounds back. I submitted a ticket on a Saturday for an rma on Monday and gun back about a week later. my best friend shoots a MPA ds9, it’s the only one I’ve seen in person (so sample size of one). I would say the fit and finish is on par but likely slightly better than my Staccato P but short of my Athena. He did have issues using Staccato/STI mags MBX have been fine and I’ve loaned him a few of my atlas mags last week but no issues yet. I’ve recently met the local master gunsmith that focuses on 2011s (mostly open guns) … I’ve shot a few of his guns and they are great. If I met him before getting ether of my Atlas guns not sure I would have gone the Atlas route though I have no issues with ether Atlas guns but could have gotten similar gun but custom for less… but warrant or possible more issues hard to say. Custom can sometimes be finicky. depends on the route you want to go and if you have a local builder. If you want hassle free and good customer service I can’t recommend Atlas enough. If you want a project and don’t mind troubleshooting and tinkering. Start with a Prodigy or Sraccato and build up what you want. I shot an STI Hawk for IDPA for a long while then moved to a Staccato P till I got my Atlas. It’s a great shooting gun and works well for that sport. I mainly shoot USPSA now thoigh
  6. I generally like the idea of lighting the intruder not myself.
  7. So normally I've always done pistol and ar home defense setups, but decided to build up a Beretta 1301 Tactical as well. I've swapped out the hand guard to be able to mount MLok and trying to decide on what I want to do for a light. my ARs are ether Cloud Defense or Surefire with fairly bright hotspots and distant throws... but the shotgun is a different weapon system. Should I do a more "floody" type light? or stick with a bright high candela light to blind? I do like running a pressure pad or Unity Hotbutton but not against a taillight button. Since I'm fairly new to "tactical" shotguns with most of my experience in over/unders for Trap and Skeet figured I would ask for some recommendations or advice. My first inclination is to just run a similar setup as to what I do with my rifles... but wasn't sure if that is the "right" call. Also wasn't sure if one light is better than others for a shotgun due to the amount of abuse recoil will cause on it over a 556 rifle. Thank you in advance.
  8. Doesn’t feel heavy at all in my opinion feels nice a rigid.
  9. I think it did I've since switched it to a Henning Hanger on a dedicated belt it was more secure and worked better. https://imgur.com/a/GVqD3DE
  10. Ya its not really needed as they do drop free easy, but I kind of like the extra weight when doing loading.
  11. I have 2 brass basepads for my CZ mags and like them. I've done some searches and can't seem to find anyone who makes them for 2011 mags. I know they aren't "needed" but thought might be neat to try them if I could find some to buy. Anyone know of any?
  12. A little bit of work and you can make the Henning Hanger work with the Ghost Hydra. https://imgur.com/a/GVqD3DE
  13. I posted this I think a while back, but you can actually use the Henning Hanger with the Ghost Hydra with 1 simple modification.n Take a look at the photos and video below: https://imgur.com/a/GVqD3DE You have to remove the old Ghost hanger and then mark and drill one hole through the body of the hanger and use a bolt with a nut to secure it but works just fine. Super rock steady compared to the kind of floppy normal Ghost mount. I haven't tested the Odin thumb rest but I know it works with the Align and the Gas peddle so I assume Odin one works fine.
  14. the P+ I didn’t like the mounting on it at all. So did a QLS fork mod.
  15. Thanks the upper came off this lower and ran fine for 1800’ish rounds together. I would just be putting a new hand guard and barrel on the upper
  16. First up while I have a lot of experience with it handguns, but my rifle/AR15 experience is still low with less than 3-3.5k rounds. I have a Daniel DDM4v7 that I ran, then Form 1’ed for an SRB and built a new upper for an 11.5 setup. I was wanting to maybe try a 300BLK for suppressed home defense. I have the old Daniel upper and barrel sitting in the safe and was wondering if I could pull the barrel and use the upper for a 300blk build or just leave it and built a complete upper?
  17. So I have a Staccato P and got a C2 grip to swap over for a shorter grip for carry purposes. I bought a mainspring housing spring for the shorter VIP/C2 grip but it seems extremely strong and puts a lot of pressure on the slide to rack. Should I just trim the spring a little? or is there a better solution?
  18. in 9mm I've owned 2011s in 4.15, 4.25, 4.4, 4.6, 4.75 and 5" guns running both iron sights and optics. For me its more the frame size and fitting me than the slide length. the 4.15 was a bit too short for comfort in carrying as for me I find with my body size and shape it uncomfortable to conceal smaller guns. the 5" slide is fine, but in 9mm I feel it cycles a bit slower. the 4.4 and 4.6 seem the best for me. I find them easy to carry and conceal, the slide cycles fast and tracks well I can manage .15-.18 splits with ease, and when shooting with irons its plenty of sight radius to get a good sight picture. My Staccato P with a 4.4" bull barrel or my 4.75" threaded work great and I love my Atlas Athena with its 4.6" If we are talking 45acp I like a 5" slide over a 4.25", but I assume we are talking 9mm.
  19. Hello everyone thank you in advance for your advice and shared wisdom. I'm semi-interested in doing some PCC shooting it isn't my main Division but its always nice to take a break and focus on other fundamentals. I first thought about getting an AR9 upper and putting it on one of my AR15 lowers but in talking to other local shooters I've heard horror stories and in once case seem a gun struggling multiple weeks/months getting one to work reliably... I would be running PCC mostly as a relaxing thing so last thing I want so tons of issues. Of the local shooters I have one guy that runs a pair of JP GMR15s and loves them, then 5-8 people who run Sig MPXs, few Rugers and other random ones, and a few custom built setups. I'm in Washington and before the silly mag ban bought a some Glock mags in preparation of at some point getting into PCC. So going the Sig route is out of the question for me since I can't get a hold of mags. I've considered going the JP GMR15 as those I've known that have them love them and say the run... BUT since its not my main division I don't really want to spend the $1800-2500 on one. I've been semi-watching for a used one to come up but haven't seen any at the time I've had funds. Additionally if I build one I can piece it out over time instead of laying out all at once.. Granted I could just save up and snag one in 6 months ... still torn. BUT going by the if you're going to build one WHAT is the route/pieces to go with? I have a Holosun 510C extra sitting in the safe and Glock mags to feed it. I have some AR15 parts like extra B5 Stock, Magpul MOE Grip, and handstop if I wanted one. I've built ARs before so building a PCC doesn't bother me. So I would need: Receiver Set BCG Small parts kit Trigger Barrel Handguard ? I've had luck with Aero parts in the past and was thinking maybe get an Aero EPC9 receiver set unless someone has a better recommendation ($300-$325'ish of the budget). Past that not sure what to go with. I've read good things about Brekke CompBarrel/Hand guard combo that would be about half the budget there at $550. So with the receiver set and barrel/hand guard that would be $850-900 of the budget. OR should I go a different direction?
  20. I only shoot local matches every once and a while with my 625 and I know I'm likely violating rules but since I'm shooting revolver no one cares.... BUT this wording always got me wondering 8.6.3.3 Moon clips may not be retained in the carrier by 3 or less cartridges. for your moon clip holder the tension is only pushing 2-3 rounds against the back plate... so that that fall under this rule? BUT to your original question I don't see anything under the rules stating a limit on the post holding 1 or 2 moon clips. Breaking it down I see: "Moon clip carriers must either be of open top configuration, or retains the moon clip with a snap or Velcro closure" Yours is open top so check, now for the middle bit. "and must retain the moon clip by tension and a stud that protrudes through the center of the clip" stud, Check! ... tension, Check! So going by these and seeing nothing specific about it doing a double stack of moon clips should be good to go. Now there is the catch all of: "8.6.3.1 Be suitable for concealed carry and all day continuous wear." Guy in chrono or MD could say a double stack isn't "suitable" for all day wear or concealed carry, because this statement can justify a lot. Other than that I would be interested to know what is meant by the 8.6.3.3 rule. PS I SOed the 2021 Frostproof Florida state match under Ryan the MD and was a great match and good crew. Wish I still lived in Florida so I could make it down there for the matches.
  21. I'll throw in my vote for SuperVel. I've been using their 9mm for years and when I picked up a 40 S&W gun for Limited Major ordered 5k rounds. 2k rounds in and no issues.
  22. So I'm mostly a USPSA/IDPA shooter and wanting to get into reloading to control my competition loads. I have a few questions if someone wouldn't mind helping me out. For USPSA I mainly shoot 40 S&W for Limited Major, for IDPA its all 9mm. I also shoot some 45acp for revolver in both sports for a change of pace. I was considering getting a press for at least 40 S&W or get setup for all three calibers. I would shoot my revolver more if I could do a soft handled for it. Also in the future I would like to shoot a 45acp 1911 single stack. How complex/time consuming is the swapping from one caliber to another? I was told by a local guy that reloads a lot that Frankfort Arsenal is releasing a new press and I've signed up to be notified when its in stock and seems like a good deal for what it offers. I'll likely be loading 10-15k or so rounds of 40, and maybe 2-3k of 45acp and 5-7k of 9mm if I do all 3 calibers... BUT maybe I'll shoot more when I can reload sooo maybe more. I was also thinking of doing a Dillion 750 or maybe 1100. Any advice on these presses or another option? I won a $250 Dillion gift card at a match. If I don't go with a Dillion press what could/should I buy from their site for this amount that I could use for any reloading. (At the moment I have nothing, but a bunch of saved brass). Another local guy said it would be better to buy two cheaper presses and set one up for 9mm and another for 40 S&W over going with a more expensive press and changing it the dyes out... I don't think this sounds correct but would be open to opinions/advice. I assume I also need a chronograph? my local range that I'm a member of has one that members can use ... should I buy my own or is using the club's ok? Since I'm not doing precision rifle rounds that I will need to test a lot and since I will go to the range when I need to test a load is owning my own a benefit? If I should own one what would be a good recommendation? I have done some reading of blogs/forums and watched videos and things but still it seems like a daunting thing to jump into... but maybe I'm over thinking it. Thank you in advance. I
  23. Thank you very much for the response, I would be fine with that has it's better than traveling there and hotel/match fee/etc and not getting scored at all.
  24. I have a question about if a backup gun is needed. I'm currently shooting a 2011 in Limited division shooting 40 S&W. As I read the read if I'm understanding it correctly if something were to happen and I needed to swap guns I just have to stay in the same division. That isn't a problem I have another 2011 ... the problem is that its a 9mm and I shoot Minor PF with it. The rule seems to only state the Division has to stay the same not the PF scoring... if something were to happen could I swap to my other 2011 and have them change scoring to Minor instead of Major? the Division isn't "Limited Major" or "A fudgecicle nobody but a few crayon chewers and winder likkers want" its "Limited" then the scoring is different. I plan on getting a second 2011 in 40 S&W at some point and for local small matches I'm not worry about it if something were to happen but I have an Area match I want to attend next year and I won't have the funds for getting a "true" backup gun by then. I was hoping that I could take the 9mm and heaven forbid something does happen at least I can finish the match shooting Minor PF. Here is the rule pasted over from the PDF: 5.1.7 Competitors must use the same firearm and type of sights for all courses of fire in a match. However, in the event that a competitor’s original firearm and/or sights become unserviceable or unsafe during a match, the competitor must, before using a substitute firearm and/or sights, seek permission from the Range Master who may approve the substitution provided he is satisfied: 5.1.7.1 The substitute firearm satisfies the requirements of the relevant Division.
  25. @ddc I can manage both if one route is better than the other. Just not sure which would end up better. Also as an option is if I pick up an AXG Pro I have a second "gun" or could sell the parts I don't use. I'm leaning the GG slide route
