By far my favorite AR15 trigger is the Timney Calvin Elite. I heard it was failing in AR9s so like you I went for a similar feel since I couldn't use the same trigger in both. As close as I could get was the Hiperfire Eclipse. The break,travel, and reset force was close enough that I could run them equally well.

Completely agree. I'm not surprised at all about the turnout. I hope to see many more matches with this setup in my area. With 3 gun on the decline I am already seeing increased interest in outlaw 2 gun matches locally. It'd be great for a match with a unified rule-set to become a regular thing.

As far as holsters go, like you, I had an incident with a pistol coming out. My rifle sling tripped the release on a DAA Alpha X holster and sent my Atlas Chaos tumbling through the gravel. I was perfectly happy with a race holster until that point. If you don't hit the release they're rock solid and totally fine for most matches especially bay style stages. If you like the ultra-physical it may or may not work for you. Sometimes it comes down to peace of mind more than whether or not it will work. @inertia is right a race holster will give you the most options especially with the many configurations of the Honcho. A guy local to me FSTactical built hooded kydex holsters for the Atlas Chaos that were badass and Atlas sold them on their site. I mention that to say that there are options for whatever pistol setup you decide on. Personally I don't think you'll lose any speed with a slide ride dot and a hooded holster. Regarding shotgun mags, my two preferred methods are kydex clips and pouches. Since I no longer needed shell caddies I swap out a rifle and shotgun pouch in the appendix position. At the 7 to 9 positions I use clips on mags. Some guys use pouches in this position like Lan and Mike from Dissident do sometimes. I also got my pouch from FSTatical. I've attached a picture of my setup. The spacing would be different were I wearing it. I can also add a pistol pouch or a rifle pouch on Tekloks as well as fit two more Vepr mags with clips if I had to. Belt setup varies from person to person and, as I'm sure you know, there's really no wrong way if it works for you.

I'll give you a list of changes I made after switching to open. Mostly I shoot far more aggressively. You have extra rounds and the Dissident can be run hard. Pull some triggers at a full sprint, enjoy it, and welcome to the one true division. Stick to the 12 and 20 rounders -Shotgun mag pouch if that appeals to you -Learn your new patterns with the change to a 14" shotgun -Dumping a shotgun with a huge mag

Can't speak for everyone, but my GMR-15 struggled with small rifle primers. My pistols ran them just fine.

I don't know of any 3 gun specific dry fire materials. The 3 Gun Show podcast has hours of interviews with high level guys who discuss their processes. I would do all the drills you do with your pistol with your long guns as well. Target transitions, loads, manipulations, enter/exit positions, and "draws". Main additions would be transitions between weapons and quad loading if you make the mistake of not shooting open. If you shoot longer distance practice efficiently getting into and out of supported rifle positions. You can really seperate yourself from the field on the rifle. It goes without saying, but knowing your dope is crucial.

It's what I use in my JP. They will clog up your comp faster than FMJ and plated bullets if that matters to you.

I use almost every size of the TF extensions in my stock JP GMR-15. I usually download one though only to seat it in the gun easier. I can't say I've had any feeding issues though since installing the extensions.

I have been using the Vortex Ranger 1800. It does everything I need it too.

Right now I go between 18" and 14.5". I like the 14.5 with a dot for bay matches and the 18 with a 1-6 when I'm shooting beyond 300 yards. You can easily shoot at distance with a shorter barrel I just prefer the big boy for longer shots. It comes down to personal preference and knowing your DOPE. I suppose the heat sink could help if you go from a 30 round burner array(s) to finishing the stage with longer shots. I will say yes, the handguard is not nearly as warm with the heatsink on. I have no doubt it works. I just haven't felt I needed enough to justify the weight.

I started out with a full build and now I only buy JP uppers. I wanted to change the stock, trigger, and controls. I have two lowers built out how I like them and just swap 3 JP uppers between them. I think you're spot on with paying $600 for something you'll change anyway. I took my heat sink off. I don't need it for the style of 3 gun I normally shoot.

Max Leograndis talks about technique on a few podcasts: Firearms Nation Froelich's Addicted Warrior Society Josh Froelich also has a good episode on Warrior Society. Also look up these two and other top PCC guys out on Instagram. They will post some decent training ideas.

The good thing about the SCS is that you can change out the weights to multiple configurations allowing you to tune it for minimal dot movement. I have JP GMR-15 and with my handloads it is very flat. If you go that route definitely get the short stroked version.

I think the JP Silent Captured Spring (SCS) should do the trick.

I lay mine on the receiver. Personal preference.

I bought a JP and all I've had to do is put ammo in it. It just works.

I can't say enough things about the XLR AR stock. It's rock solid, almost infinitely adjustable, and balanced out my GMR-15 nicely. It's pricey, but for me it was totally worth it.

JP has a QD sling mount that I have on my JP15 3 gun rifle. I also have an XLR stock on my GMR and JP15 that has qd mounts built in. I use a Viking Tactics sling for 3 gun.

Sounds like you already know everything you need. My setup is three 17 round mags with +6ish taylor freelance extensions for classifiers. These extensions put the mags at about the same length as my 170mm mags. I put the mag pouches in the same position as my 3 gun/USPSA belts making mag manipulations consistent across platforms. You can't go wrong with one or two 33 rounders topped off with a Goliath. I use this for all other stages that don't require a reload.
