Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Good thoughts, thanks...Going to mark a some and try indexing them around. Something in the throat (long land leade), would likely make consistent marks around the circumference of the bullet shank as it is rotated and re-inserted I would think and if they`re seated crooked, the scuff should appear roughly in the same spot. BTW, loading once fired Winchester brass and all 20 I prepared at the various charges working up show the contact...I wouldn`t think case mouth squareness would be the issue. Wondering more about the odd shaped XTP nose and the Lee RN seating die I`m using. The back of that XTP bullet has quite a long boat tail profile. That`s why I hesitated to go any deeper than the Hornady recommended min. COAL for that bullet. May just try it to see where the mark disappears in some uncharged cases too...thanks again for your thoughts
  2. Thanks for the thoughts HT but its the bullet touching the throat that`s causing the friction...cartridge o.d. from case mouth back to back of seated bullet is essentially the same as my other loads (only reason I mentioned the crimp) and since the bullet is marked at only one spot instead of at every land, it makes me think it has to be slightly tipped or the throat is not concentric with the chamber...don`t really want to go any lower than the min. OAL with that bullet. BTW, I`m not really concerned about duplicating any factory round, just trying to work up a load with that bullet, as I have quite a few. Was hoping some may have knowledge of a seating issue with the RN Lee seating die and that TC profile of the XTP bullet, or possible had seen similar contact with the XDM throat, etc.
  3. BTW, my coated SNS 147 RN plunk and shoot great...the part of the bullet shank is transitioning to the ogive and a good 15 thou. smaller diameter an equal distance from the case mouth than the XTPs.
  4. Loading some XTP 147`s over Sport Pistol in Winchester brass, 1.12" OAL per Alliant recipe for 147`s, and some to 1.1" which is normal XTP OAL re Hornady info. Don`t plunk in my 5.25" XDM chamber. Small scuff that is only visible on a narrow part of the shank...obviously hitting the throat but apparently only in one small area. Crimp is about .375-6, which is same as my RN lead loaded with SNS 147 RN. Smoked some and can see same mark...only on a small portion of the circumference. Would lead me to believe they might not be concentric, or possibly one of the lands in the throat may not be. Using a Lee seat die on a Redding single stage press that I use to get things dialed in, which is optimum for RN bullets for sure. Wondering if anyone has similar experience. Shank is quite long on the XTP`s before the taper starts. Would appreciate any insight from anyone with similar experience. Thanks, Jerry
  5. Thanks Hogwriter, gal on the BE forum was able to check her 10th edition and not in there...will use the Alliant data and take it from there...I know there are much more popular powders for that bullet but I have a bunch of it and have had great success with the cast coated 147`s I use, so going to give it a try...not a lot of choices at the moment!
  6. Wonder if anyone with a more recent Hornady manual could tell me if there is data for Sport Pistol with the 147XTP bullet? Alliant has data for 147JHP but wondering if there might be data specific to the XTP and S.P. Thanks if anyone might know...
  7. Thanks for the feedback...I`m working on adding a second screw to mine...good to know some have had good luck with the single screw...will contimue to use it as is till I get it done...Thanks again
  8. Warren, Thanks a bunch for the advice...I will do as you suggest...wasn`t sure if it might just be a surface/finish issue...annealing the hole should cover me no matter what...Thanks again...Regards, Jerry
  9. Any who have first hand experience with the Springer Vortex mount base on a 5.25 XDM? Wondering about the durability, longevity of the single screw used to attach the mount to the slide...planned on adding a second screw but had difficulty drilling the slide... Thanks for any insight from any with experience with that mount. Thanks, Jerry
  10. Got a Springer Vortex mount for my XDM 5.25 9. Works and fits great, just don`t want to trust the one screw so adding a second. Have an older Palmgren CS table and vice on a DP...spotted the new hole and drilled tap drill sized hole through the base...removed the base to spot the hole in the slide with a center drill before drilling it with the tap drill bit...center wouldn`t touch the slide...tried another with same result...does not seem to want to cut...anyone with experience with the XDM slides that might have a thought? Wondering if the surface might be hardened or if that might be a trait of those slides...any insight appreciated...Thanks for any thoughts...Jerry
  11. MM, Thanks a lot for the reply...truly what I was looking for feedback...going to try some Win. and I`m betting will be all good...9mm just a little different game, as I expected...Thanks to all that replied...
  12. noylj, Thanks for the thoughts...these are once fired Winchester white box cases...not sure how they would relate to others but will check some and see if they might be short...
  13. Thanks a lot for the response...I was thinking the only change spring wise was the striker spring installed with the PRP drop-in trigger kit but it is likely lighter if anything than the OEM spring and it was doing it prior to installing that kit anyway...I will contact SA...just knew someone here likely had seen it before unless it was extremely unusual...my main concern is that if it were to put that dinger in the primer while there was still enough pressure, it might cause it to pierce and let some gas out / ruin the striker nose, etc....may put it back to total OEM once and check just for the heck of it and also try with the Winchester primers...thanks again for your thoughts...may turn out to be a non issue
  14. AHI, Thanks, yes I do know Fed. 100 GM`s are softer, that`s why I mentioned it...I suspected it might be a cause...I use them for BE & PPC revolver for that very reason...they are very reliable with lighter reduced hammer strikes in those target guns...I do plan on getting something else for the 9mm loads , likely WSP`s as you suggest...if that`s all it is, I`d be happy, as I think it`s a very good load otherwise...thanks for the response
  15. N3, Stock recoil spring, doubt striker return spring could be bad (though, not impossible to be bad O.E.M. I suppose) as pistol only has ~300-400 shots...done it since the first shot...all factory ammo till now, just worked up a load & same result re primer impression...thanks for the response
