  1. adjustable in 1 in/lb increments
  2. depends upon the location of the match and the distance between stages- modified jogging stroller if the stages are close together and you can easily walk- the trunk of your car or bed of truck if the stages are far apart and you can drive- work out of your vehicle. Some of the pics of the modified carts above are cool and very practical. Lots of equipment is heavy- you want to save your energy for shooting the match not carrying equipment around between stages.
  3. I have used two AP custom L2/6 on my belt for club matches for years and they have enough rounds with the ones in the shotgun. (Would probably buy carbon arms today since AP custom is out of business.) If you need more use a 4X4 on the belt or a chest rig for major matches that require lots more such as a jungle run, etc. You will get to the point of carrying lots of shotshells (different kinds) and they will become heavy during the match.
  4. One of the guys from KY had a 300 PRC last week at the range. Noisy but very accurate. Should do very well at 1000 yards with the 225? grain bullet.
  5. I am not convinced that a suppressor for a 6mm credmoor is worth it- money involved, long wait time to get permit, selection of the "right" suppressor, having the threads on the end of the rifle barrel checked to make sure they are "in line" with the axis of the bore- i.e. centered. It may be worthwhile for a subsonic round in a pistol caliber, but the 6mm creedmoor bullet goes 2960 fps. My electronic earmuffs cost less than $100 and they deaden the sound nicely.
  6. Take a look at the Vortex optics torque wrench- it is great and very easy to use. Gradations from 10 to 110 in/lbs.
  7. I like a MKIII 5.5" bull target with volquartsen internals and volquartsen grip panels, topped with a C-more for shooting steel and bowling pins. Trigger is about 1.5#'s and it does the trick. Very fast and accurate pistol. It is just as good and reliable as the more expensive pistols.
  8. If you have a tendency to put your thumb, etc on the slide you may want to consider ambi swensons- they have a "thumb shield" on the safety "catch" that you can rest your thumb on and it does not touch the slide to slow it down from cycling. They are more expensive than conventional ambi safties and require more time to install. I have used them for years on my open gun. Try Brownells or Dawson Precision to buy them.
  9. I have no line HD progressive lenses- makes it hard to focus on a limited gun and sometimes on my rifle scope depending upon the position. Best alternative I have found is to go to a dot with the pistol. Target acquisition is fast with no blurring. With the rifle scope it helps if you use a stretch band attached to your glasses so they are pulled against your face. The cross hairs do not move around as much and you can get on target using this type of lens-i.e. HD no line progressive. Alternative would be to shoot using clear lenses and adjust the focus using the scope. Or some competitors shoot with no glasses!
  10. Try hang fast targets in WV- they may have them- if not he may make you some.
  11. I would talk to Benny Hill and/or Dave Dawson regarding the pros and cons of 38 super vs 9 major. 38 super cases have a large rim for easier/better extraction vs a 9mm. Either one can build you an open gun or you can get a CZC in 9 major which is excellent and a little less expensive. The 9 major is not that hard to load- best is to use NATO 9 mm cases- stronger web. There are other excellent pistol smiths- prices vary depending.
  12. I have used the C-More 8 MOA for years on my open gun- no problem- the dot is always there quickly. Tried a vortex venom 6 MOA on a springfield XDM 9mm and I have to search for the dot - think I need to dry fire more or practice drawing with this gun more so I get used to it. So more practice is the way to go.
  13. has anyone done a trigger job on a Ruger Wrangler? Can you get it to between 2 and 2.5 pounds? I am going to purchase one and wanted to find out. What revolver smith in KY or IN would be the best one to send the gun to have the work done?
  14. I have a Volquartsen trigger kit in two of my Ruger MK III's. The trigger pull is 1 1/2 pounds and this suits me fine sine I am used to it and do very well them it in steel and bowling pin matches. I guess I am used to it since my 38 super open gun has a trigger pull of 1 1/2 pounds- have been shooting it for many years. You do have to be careful thought about keeping your finger out of the trigger guard until you are ready to fire.
  15. Paul- I have a Ruger Wrangler that I would like you to take a look at and possibly do a trigger job on-. It is a single action 22lr revolver that I want to use as a practice gun for cowboy action. Thinking about a 2.5# trigger pull to match my 38 spl Ruger Vaqueros. When will you be at Owensboro next time for a match? I can meet you there. John Wedig- tel 812-473-2596

  16. For a limit of 200 yards think about either the Vortex Razor or a Meopta Meostar K2Dot- both are excellent. Meopta is a little clearer. Mount in a 2 or 3" offset and you have a great package. Both are illuminated.
  17. it is a good idea to change the recoil spring about every 5000 rounds so your pistol runs efficiently- keep a log book for ammo shot
  18. I have several AR's that have JP triggers installed in them, by JP, and they have been working fine for years.
  19. the operator mag well from pistol gear is IDPA ESP legal- with the addition of the dawson .300 basepads that do not extend beyond the magwell - they are also legal and help seating the mag when reloading quickly
  20. when you experience a failure to feed ammo and get jamming, etc it is time to install new mag springs. they are inexpensive and should be changed at least once a year. ISMI makes good springs.
  21. I have a XDM 4.5" 9mm with a pistol gear operator magwell. You need dawson .300 base pads on your mags to seat them quickly during a match vs standard mags with factory base pads. Without the dawson .300 base pads the mags may not seat so you can chamber a round- have to push the standard factory mags with your thumb up into the mag well- takes too much time and you are not always sure the mag is seated properly to feed ammo.
  22. Has anyone bought a ruger wrangler and tested the trigger? What is the trigger pull? Crisp? Other characteristics? Thinking about purchasing one for a cowboy action practice pistol vs shooting 38spl.
  23. I have an electric heater for the winter, which keeps the place toasty, and a large fan in the summer directed at me while loading- keeping me cool. I am fortunate for my set up in the garage.
  24. no condensation- presses are located in my insulated garage which is attached to the house in IN
  25. Consider a STI 2011 Edge in 40 S&W that ahs been worked over by Dawson or B Hill. This pistol was made/developed for USPSA limited- very fast, reliable, weight forward, high capacity, etc. Another pistol to consider would be the STI 2011 DVC. Although these guns are expensive, if they are well maintained, they will last one during their shooting career.
