  1. Reposted from USPSA website to continue the discussion. Steel Challenge Proposal 2022-01 2023 Peak Stage Time (PST) Adjustments Background: The Steel Challenge rules (Appendix A4 – Classification) requires PSTs to be reviewed and, if appropriate, adjusted. Upon completion of the 2022 World Speed Shooting Championship (WSSC) match the required review was completed. Methodology: 1 – 2022 WSSC Match results were used for analysis 2 – ISR was not considered for any reduction in time due to less than 10 competitors competing in that division. 3 – All scores between 95% (GM) and 110% of PST were included for analysis. Any score > 110% was excluded. All times used were averaged to come up with a single time. 4 – If five or more competitors shoot a qualifying time then consider adjustment. If less than five shot a qualifying time add 0.10 to the current PST. Any decrease or increase had to be greater or equal to 0.10. Any change less than that value was ignored. NOTE: Diff is change from current PST Stage Key 101 – 5 To Go 102 – Showdown 103 – Smoke & Hope 104 – Outer Limits 105 – Accelerator 106 – The Pendulum 107 – Speed Option 108 – Roundabout Change summary by stage If approved as recommended these PSTs will be used beginning with the first classification cycle in January 2023.
  2. #1 - Yes please share the data. I can imagine SS and revolver were a bit ambitious, but I sense there is a hammer about to fall on rimfire / CO / PCC times and your trying to be kind. #3 ( Boomer feature ( I'm 58 )) is part of the problem and should be rejected. It worse than a participation trophy. Has zero merit in a classification system, especially as peak time measurements evolve. #4 should be the norm on a regular interval something like 2 years. It keeps us all sharp and pushing. Today, once you achieve GM, some of the fire goes away. Wipe it out and you get to climb the mountain all over again. Umm, sure, is there a link ?? Honestly speaking pushing people through the antique website of USPSA makes no sense. Almost no one goes there regularly. USPSA / SC should embrace social media / forums / even practiscore as the form of discussion and commentary. By using USPSA website you just cut the number by 2 orders of magnitude down on who will take time to give feedback.
  3. @anonymouscuban Interested in how it went at your training session and the RO duties. I'm about ready to make the call to House of Hearing. thanks for a great writeup;
  4. I had to remove the bolt weight and go real light with white spring to run 82pf loads.
  5. I have found the JP silent captured spring to be one of the most tuneable spring configurations. I currently run 80pf 95gr loads in my PCC for Steel challenge and it rocks. Burst fire can be a symptom of too much spring / weight and not allowing the trigger to reset. @Arcrunneris there a specific question you have ?
  6. I run that same setup. What weights are you running on SCS ? For my light steel challenge loads, I made (4) aluminum spacers for the SCS. Are you running tungsten, steel, or what mix ?
  7. @Squirrel45 Since we're both in CT, I'll give you a great price if you want to buy my VQ trigger for Ruger PCC. I ended up moving over to the AR9 platform.
  8. Interesting... https://jardinc.com/JARD-Ruger-PC-Carbine-Charger-Trigger-System_p_184.html
  9. I made a custom shrouded barrel before Taccom offered theirs. It was a PITA process. Would prefer replacing the mounting lug approach that Tim uses. When I wear it out, I'll be buying one of the Taccom for sure. I have the new XLW on my AR9 platform. Here is my Ruger PCC
  10. For all that are reporting phenomenal trigger, can you post your actual measured trigger pull weight ? I find it a bit subjective for someone to just say TK is phenomenal without a more quantitative discussion. I have yet to find a ruger pcc trigger combo ( including the VQ TG9 ) that is even close to the hyperfire PCC trigger or what Kidd would offer in RFRO. Happy to be proven wrong as I want a good solution to the trigger.
  11. All matches are in NY/NJ/PA/MA CT is perhaps the least competition friendly state for USPSA / SCSA.
  12. Go here and click on learn more about classification system. https://scsa.org/classification @Squirrel45 I'm here in CT also and shoot alot of steel challenge matches. Let me know if I can help out in any way.
  13. Then start your own thread on that topic. Please don't hijack this one. I think you can solicit many good ideas I'm sure on how to grow the sport. Thread drift: Screwed up threads just make it hard if you would like to go back and research a particular topic....You search "exhaust system" and you get "I live in Bum-f*#k Iowa" where do you live?
  14. I have run down as low as 72pf, but too risky with squibs and burst fire potential. I run 100gr berry's and 95gr JHP from Montana gold. 2.4 - 2.6 gr of VV N310 @ 1.100 OAL. In this build, I am running a stern defense mag adapter ( Glock mags ) in a 1994 pre-ban here in Peoples Republic of CT. Gun is running pretty reliably with 80pf loads using a buffer with a 2.3oz and standard carbine spring. Hiperfire competition with green springs ( 2.5 pull weight ) This is very useful and thank you. May I ask what trigger as the hammer reset can definitely have enough force to change the setup from gun to gun. I want to change to the SCS / Short stroke and newest bolt so your setup is very close. Goal is to swap out different SCS for steel challenge vs USPSA vs knockdown events. 80pf vs 109pf vs 125pf
  15. New PCC for steel challenge build. I typically run like an 80pf 95gr load. 5.5" shrouded barrel. Works flawless in my existing Ruger PCC ( non ar platform ) So, I am thinking I would use the JP enhanced bolt with their short stroke silent captured spring. My assumption is via a mix and match of weights and spring tension I can tune it properly. One guy I know made aluminum weights to replace the steel on his SCS ( non short stroke ). I also am going to use a hiperfire trigger which seems to have a strong spring pressure as well requiring less mass on the buffer. Anyone else go down this road ? Advice welcome. I prefer not to have a deek measuring contest on the merits of 80pf
  16. That is why I pointed at the guide rod a possibility and interaction with bolt.
  17. check to make sure the guide rod when sitting in the pocket and bolt is pretty much parallel in the receiver. If it isn't, it will bind up as the bolt travels backward. Personally the Kidd guide rod and spring kit is a useful addition as the guide rod is super smooth coupled with strength. It will serve you well for many years. Sounds like it needs a really good cleaning including the trigger group. I'd use brake clean spray on everything and then lube the trigger pivot points and bolt surfaces and guide rod upon re-assembly.
  18. Anyone have a good source for an amg timer? Go shoot doesn’t list them anymore.
  19. https://www.targetsportsusa.com/primers-c-2806.aspx in stock, shipped to your door.
  20. Parking Outer Limits on the side for the time being, Suppose ( closer to the original thread intent ) SCSA reduces ( lower time; make harder ) all Low Ready and Rimfire peak times by 10% I arbitrarily chose 10%, but it would really be done in context of trying to achieve a statistical measure of classifications across each division.
  21. Subscribed. Please update on how to approach insurance coverage.
  22. Thread drift ! Great points of view on the demographics and relevance of OL, but honestly speaking from@Hoopsoriginal question about what the review policy and direction of peak times will be has not advanced in the discussion. Still unclear what the goals and objectives of the peaktime distribution should be. SCSA can pull various levers to achieve whatever competitor classification curve they want by just raising and lowering the peak times. What 'bell curve' or distribution do they think makes sense ?
  23. I think what is needed is a statement of objectives for the classification from USPSA/SCSA. Once we know what the classification goals should represent ( and over time ); then the other pieces fall in place. i.e. metrics and scope of participants to produce that outcome. Without a clear understanding of the peak times should produce as a cross section, it is just speculation and our own personal points of view that get bantered about. If the above exists, lets use that as a starting point or perhaps we can help craft one.
  24. Interesting. I'm building an AR9 platform with ESSB / Eclipse so you validated one of my experiments already.
  25. I have the same conclusion. I use it in a dvc STI open with 7lb spring. Sometimes I will bump to 4.0 of N310. The load you and I describe is essentially identical to the Atlanta arms 100gr steel challenge load.
