  1. I just built a new upper with the Stretch 16 barrel and a Precision Armament M4-72 compensator. Ever time I shoot it, I feel gas blowing into my face. I have not yet had time to trouble shoot it and try and see if the gas is coming from the back of the upper receiver or coming directly from the comp. For those shooting it, do you feel any gas blowback?
  2. I don't know what grit it wss that I used. I had a polishing kit that had 3 different compounds/grits. I used the one labeled aggressive
  3. Thousands of rounds through it and not a single issue.
  4. I have been shooting the Elftmann trigger this past year and I must say, I’m in love with it. The Elf triggers are the cleanest breaking trigger that I have felt. I tuned mine a little bit, not to benefit the trigger break but to help with reset. The way to adjust the trigger weight is very simple. All you need to do is turn a set screw from the top; you don’t even have to dismantle it. What I found when I lowered the pull weight too low was the trigger failed to reset. The friction between the disconnector and the disconnector hook was too high and was overpowering the trigger spring which reset the trigger. I found a couple ways to reduce the friction, which allowed me to lower the trigger pull weight to 2.0lbs and still have a reliable reset. And if you were wondering, this trigger also works with .22lr. I dropped it into my M&P 15-22 and it ran like a top. I polished the disconnector and the disconnector hook on the hammer with a dremel and polishing compound. The smallest buffer wheel for a dremel was still too big so I have to trim down the buffer with a razor blade while it was spinning on the dremel. (Think wood on a lathe). This allowed me to get into those small spaces and smooth things out. The disconnector is the full width of the hammer and trigger. I filed down the disconnector hook to about 50% of what it was in order to reduce surface area and thus friction. I cut one and a half coils off the disconnector spring to further reduce friction between the hammer and disconnector. I cut the DISCONNECTOR spring, don’t cut on the trigger spring. I slightly bent the hammer spring back a little to try to lower the amount of pressure on the hammer. Not sure how much it helped, but every little bit helps. I have not had any light strikes by doing this. I also ground the bottom of the hammer spring a bit since I saw it was gouging into the aluminum housing a bit when the hammer was being cocked back. I lightly touched up the edges of the trigger since it is a hard edge and feels better to me to round the edges. I started with the dremel then used an abrasive polishing wheel and while it may not look perfect, it feels great.
  5. Just wanted to share my experience with adding silicone carbide to by 2011 grip. It was pretty easy and I think it came out looking and feeling really good. This is one of my favorite guns to shoot and I even shoot it in minor in LTD with it at my local USPSA matches because its so much fun. If anyone is looking to have a gun built, get a hold of Glenn Rasch at Lone Star Innovations and he can take care of you. He's a great guy to deal with and builds some of the best guns 1. I ground down all the checkering on the grip with a dremel. I ground it until all of the lines from the checkering were gone or just barely visible. Once the lines were gone, I stopped. 2. I got a small block of wood with sandpaper and went over the grip to get rid of any high spots to make it more level. (Probably didn't need to do this step). 3. I taped off a few sections of the grip and mainspring housing area and underneath the trigger guard to get a clean line, but other places I was just careful where I applied the adhesive. 4. I used standard JB Weld as the adhesive and a plastic knife to apply it. I did it in my garage in January and the JB Weld was pretty thick so I hit it with a blow dryer to make it easier to work with and get it smoother. When it was cold, the JB Weld would have different spread marks (It looked like spreading frosting on a cake and not very even). I would recommend doing it somewhere slightly warm... just not a cold garage in January. 5. Once it was coated evenly with JB Weld I sprinkled with grip with silicone carbide (and lots of it). I caught the excess in a pan to use again. It doesn't take much to coat a grip but you want to have a lot to pour over it to make sure it's completely coated. 6. I waited about 24 hours and removed the tape, then waited another day before reinstalling it to my gun.
  6. Well I tried strip of .003 & .004 shim wrapped around the extension but I couldn't get either to fit into the upper and I didnt feel like going back to Grainger for thinner shims. so I applied 640 loctite and torqued the barrel nut down pretty good.
  7. I just got a Rainier Arms forged upper with a barrel extension opening that is 1.004" and a Stretch 16 fluted melonite barrel with a barrel extension of .995". I know that some use loc-tite to snug up the loose fit. I was wondering if using loc-tite is as good as getting an upper to barrel fit that is a tight fit to begin with? Are there any forged uppers that are know to have a tighter barrel fit than others? Thanks for the help
  8. Christmas sale https://www.rainierarms.com/law-tactical-gen-3-ar-folding-stock-adapter?utm_source=Xmas%20Sale%20Email&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=Xmas%20Sale%20Email
  9. The Elftmann safety is pretty freaking cool. Push the right side with your trigger finger (right handers) to disengage the safety and start shooting. Press the left side of the safety with your right thumb to engage it and make the gun safe
  10. Go with Glenn at Lone Star Innovations. He does some pretty amazing stuff. The gun he built me is smooth as glass, right as a vault and runs and runs and runs. Plus he's a vendor here on the forum. He's building me a U-Trac right now and I'm anxious to shoot it
  11. I have the Elf and have only played with the Gold a little. I like the Elf because I prefer single stage triggers and the Elf is the most crisp trigger I have ever felt. It truly feels like a glass rod breaking
  12. Get the Hogue bag. I have a VM with a 12 round tube and it fits easily. Plus there is a TON of space and pockets to fit lots of other great. It is built completely bomb proof and very rugged. It was designed with input from some top 3 gun shooters
  13. Elf trigger is an amazing trigger. Zero pretravel ands zero creep. It is the crispest AR trigger I have ever felt
  14. This was my first Ironman and I had a BLAST! There were some things I did really well and some things that I absolutely sucked on. I will say this... the part of the match that I thought was the most fun was the charity auction after the match. It was amazing seeing the generosity of people in this community and how we take care of each other.
  15. Check out the Elftmann triggers for the cleanest breaking trigger you will ever feel
  16. I'm glad I'm not the only one noticing the problem, but I wish we could get an answer
  17. Well you could try the Elfman triggers. Not only is it the crispest trigger I have ever felt, but you can change out the trigger shoe from flat to curved or vice versa if you like one over the other.
  18. What has happened to brownells? I used to be able to place an order ands it was shipped usually the next day. That hasn't happened my last few orders. I just placed an order on Friday and it's Wednesday now and the order only has a label created and hasn't shipped? What changed? In addition to that they've started shipping the USPS packages via UPS which is also slower
  19. Check out the Elf trigger. They are single stage and have the cleanest break I've felt on a trigger. I've got mine down to 2.5lbs and I love it!
  20. Get the Elftmann 3 Gun trigger. It's the best trigger I've tried!
  21. The Elf trigger also works with rimfire :-) The day after shooting the video, I placed 2nd overall in our monthly Steel Challenge match with that gun
  22. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=206859 The Elf triggers are some of the best I have felt. They are incredibly crisp with very little overtravel and reset. I don't know why someone would want to run from a trigger with a fast lock time.
