  1. Your right about there being a ton of info already existing in the forum. I just thought it would be useful to have a tabulation of folks preferences.
  2. I actually feel dirty answering this I've been doing them. PM Sent
  3. Since I started sponsoring the forum, I've received a lot of questions and requests about barrel/gas system combos that are not usually found (Thanks by the Way!). I thought a poll about what folks are using would be beneficial for the whole community. Personally, I'm starting to fall in love with 17" intermediate systems. They shoot soft but function like clockwork! So what do you like to use for competition?
  4. Great post! How did you locate the rotab to spindle location?
  5. Hi Robert! As for accuracy, the first thing I'd be looking to do is have your machinist re-crown to 11 degrees. That is usually the best accuracy enhancement you can make to a factory gun. Request he indicates the bore to .0003-.0005. That's a little intense, but if your taking the gun out to a grand, every little bit will help. I'd definitely add a 20 MOA riser. Every little bit of up elevation is more you have left in turret. I'm personally in the middle on fluting, i go either way. I like the weight savings, but I usually prefer a lighter profile over fluting, but that's just me. You right on having it done while the barrel is already out. Might be a good idea to have it cryo'd or otherwise stress relieved after fluting. Congrats on getting into the big AR's, they are a lot of fun! --KJ
  6. Ok, a little shameless self promotion, but I really like this hat!
  7. +1 on the Giessele and the JP. Love em' both. I'm a huge fan of the Giessele SSA. Everyone I've tested has been an absolute pleasure.
  8. Accuracy and chrome lining can be hit or miss. From the samples I've dealt with, most of the accuracy problems have been somewhat related to the crown however. Testing before and after adding a 11 degree crown has shown some pretty significant differences. My theory is how the barrels are set up for the crown at the factory. I will also add that some of the chrome barrels I've worked on could not be helped. Stainless or CM based blanks will always perform more consistently blank to blank. We have team out here running the FN precision auto loaders and the two that I've seen do some very impressive accuracy. To fastmtnbiker's point though, they all got somewhat of a break in. As for using machine gun barrels..... These barrels are AR barrels, the only difference is the chrome depth and material spec. There is a lot of argument over CHF vs. Cut rifling. I think the major reason there are so many CHF barrels out there now is the number of domestic hammer forging machines has increased with DD bringing their gear on line. But as far as I've been told FN manufacturers the vast majority. Either way, they are very good barrels and Ive tested a few that shot some pretty amazing groups. The Noveske N4's that I have tested have usually been very accurate barrels.
  9. Ha! Thanks! It is usually better to hit me via email or through the site. Maybe I spend to much time in the shop If you go with a stainless or nitrided barrel, we can cut anything that is mechanically conceivable. But on the Chrome lined front I also offer the entire Noveske and Daniel Defense line with the exception of the N4's unless listed on Noveske's site. Nitrided in my opinion is a great balance between durability and accuracy. 18K on a chrome lined barrel is a pretty short life. Some my earlier LW50/Poly stainless barrels are doing that no problem. Let me know if I can answer any questions. --Kevin
  10. I wonder if they are available in steel vs. aluminum.
  11. Cool, I didn't know they redesigned the Chip drop in's. I'll have to beat one up. Just to throw in another option, the single stage Geissele is very nice. I to have a professional relationship with these folks No adjustments at all. Just drops in, albeit with a little more work than a trigger pack. The drop from disco to trigger nose is so very slight. Really nice design.
