  1. I ran across this thread while on 1911.org and was quite perplexed with the post. More so with the pictures. The poster stated that in the Philippines there are a couple of companies could be making these STI's, Twin Pines and Trueweight. Check out the guy's pictures and the bad tooling marks. I was debating on posting this but if it is true, it looks like it could be a serious problem in the near future.

Here's the link, because there are way too many pictures for me to copy and post.

  2. That's kinda cool to see the flight paths deverted around the hub. Do you fly Mark?

Down here in Tampa (Lakeland actually) in April, they have one of the biggest "Fly Ins" just like in Oshkosh. Everything from Cesna's, Pipers, Military Aircraft, Biplanes, down to Homebuilts and Ultralights. The airspace over Lakeland is so over populated with aircraft that they have teams of ATC's working. The event is huge! A client of mine said it is actually booked for the next ten years for ATC's that want to work the air show. It's a fun show to go to, but I couldn't imagine flying to it.

  3. Okay, so on this note...

What is a good case that doesn't weigh down your luggage, is strong enough to stay locked, and is pretty much a pain to get into?

I have a an aluminum case that came with my Springer TGO1 but I think that can be easily busted into, but it's a lot better than a plastic case most guns come with.

  4. I can't remember  . I made three different hotel reservations today (one for the match and two for business) and I can't remember what rate I got. I'll call tomorrow and find out. sorry.

    How much was the rate?

I made reservations the other night for October 6th and 7th and they said that the rate was $59 a night which after tax came out to $65. The thing is, I could've swore Ray told me the rate was $40 a night.

  5. I did a search and didn't see this, if it is...sorry Merlin.

    FACTS TO PONDER:

    (A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is

    700,000.

    (B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are

    120,000.

© Accidental deaths per physician is

    0.171.

Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept. of Health Human Services.

    Now think about this:

    Guns:

    (A) The number of gun owners in the U. S is

    80,000,000.

    (Yes, that's 80 million.)

    (B) The number of accidental gun deaths

per year, all age groups, is

    1,500.

© The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is

    .000188

    Statistics courtesy of FBI

So, statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

Remember, "Guns don't kill people, doctors do."

FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.

Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!!!!! Out of concern for the public at large, I have withheld the statistics on lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention.

  6. Zeke,

That's really cool that you have a wife and she's behind you in your shooting.

I will never forget my wife coming to support me at the Area 6 Match a few months ago, standing in the pouring rain and waiting for me to shoot. Not one complaint, no sighs, nothing but smiles for the entire match duration. That's just awesome!

    Congrats on getting the Loadmaster!

  7. I'm with you on that Daniel. I am by no means a movie critic nor an actor, I am a die hard MV fan though, my wife...not really, but she did like it and say the same thing you and I feel that Mann did it in the same manor as the show, nothing more nothing less. I might have been a lot more critical if he himself didn't do it though.

I went in thinking it would be like a Bad Boys movie (car chases and gunfights) and when I came out I said to myself that it was done exactly like "Miami Vice". It didn't feature any guns like Sonny's Bren, and we only got a split second glance at the SV Tiki Sonny was carrying. Other than that, I go t to the movies to escape the reality for a little bit, I enjoyed it.

  8. Did any of you catch the September/October American Handgunner Magazine? The feature cover article is on STI's Grand Master. Pretty cool to see something competitive for a change in these magazines!

  9. A dropped 1911 w/ a 30 oz. trigger can go off. It for this reason that I keep all my grip safeties in working order. It would suck bad enough to get D.Q.ed for dropping my gun but if it went off and shot someone else or me it would probably end my competitive shooting all togehter.

I'm with you on this one, despite if what mpolans says is true, I still wouldn't want to risk getting shot or get someone else hurt and being know as "that guy". I don't think disengaging it makes that much difference with my slow a$$ anyways.

  10. We finally HAVE A WINNER!

Just that I've been looking for someone to respond with a shooting plate ! ;)

    Do I make runner up?

I'd give you 1st. I tried for a USPSA plate but someone in Florida has it or had it. I think all of us being primarily USPSA Shooters that your's would take the cake.

  11. On the second Sunday of the month up in Frostproof at Frank Garcia's place we have a monthly USPSA Match. It's a nice range to shoot at with a variety of bays. A lot of top level guys shoot there every month, and quite a few come from Deerfield Beach and Lake Worth down by where you're at.

If you don't mind driving a little bit we have another Match at the first and third Sunday's of the month at Ruskin the website is http://www.tbpc.org/ . The first Sunday is a sanctioned match with a classifier, the third Sunday is a fun match but they both bring out about 30-50 people.
