trigger control of most platforms can be mastered by anyone who tries, so choosing something off trigger alone i don't think is a good pathway. and as you said, who wants to buy and sell guns over and over again to find what they like if they don't have to?

so ask yourself, what do you like in a gun? do you like to work on your gun yourself? do you care how much aftermarket support there is for a gun? what is your true purpose for the gun? what about it visually and intellectually makes you want one physically?

after answering all of that, truthfully, i think you can take one in hand and simply say to yourself, "do i like how this feels? do i have any reservations at all? is there any required action i can't see myself performing with this gun? can i manipulate every control easily?"

then if you feel really positively about all those answers you'll likely be able to shoot one as well as you allow yourself to.

i shot a friends WC and his LTT. they were not for me as i wasn't confident doing all the work on it myself, the people who i saw shooting them seemed to have more frequent issues of some kind than others guns i was considering, the narrow aftermarket support, the available rear sight profiles, and the balance of it in hand. but most of what you'll decide is subjective and personal. good luck!

    Well said!

if something bad happens, in any bay, there's probably going to be a real problem. I'm not a big fan of the mindset that we must have more rules and less freedom out of fear of lawyers. That's the same thinking that leads people to putting up signs prohibiting firearms in their store.

    Exactly! 👍

So, you can DQ someone for unsafe gun handling in a safe area, clubhouse, parking lot, outhouse, or just about anywhere at the range when a match is taking place.  But not in another bay that's specifically set aside for unsupervised live fire, because it's not designated as a match stage?  Ok.  Also, the bigger concern is the potential for legal liability.  If they designate a bay for unsupervised live fire, and something bad happens, they're going to have a real problem regardless of whether they consider that part of the match or not.

You seem very over concerned. This is a sport and most of us do it for self pleasure as a way to relax. At the end of the day you need to be responsible for you and realize this is probably one of the safest sports to participate in. If someone makes you feel uncomfortable find the match director and let them make a decision.

10.5.1 and 10.5.13 seem pretty clear to me.  Also, 3.3 prohibits local exemptions unless specifically authorized by HQ.  I'm not aware of anything in the rules that allows for unsupervised gun handling and/or live fire.  If you have a rule to cite, please do so.

10.5 Match Disqualification – Unsafe Gun Handling

10.5.1 - Handling a firearm at any time except when in a designated safety area or when under the supervision of, and in response to a direct command issued by, a Range Officer. This includes deliberately removing a flag from a PCC except under the conditions listed here.

10.5.13 - Having a loaded firearm other than when specifically ordered to by the Range Officer.

    - - -

    3.3 Applicability of Rules

3.3 - Applicability of Rules. USPSA matches are governed by the rules applicable to the discipline. Host organizations may not enforce local rules except to comply with legislation or legal precedent in the applicable jurisdiction. Any voluntarily adopted rules that are not in compliance with these rules must not be applied to USPSA matches without the express written consent of the President of USPSA. All local rules allowed under these provisions will be documented at USPSA HQ.

USPSA rules are for matches. Matches consist of stages and the areas set up for those stages. That is why the chrono is considered a stage. Any bays that are not being used by the match are not governed by match rules. Nothing you listed applies.

This is why video evidence isn't allowed in USPSA. LOL

...and I still want a printed book copy of the rules. Some of us still use our flip phones and have tablets with no internet.

  6. I have had great results with the MBX guts so far. I don't losd mags night before a match, I don't let them sit with ammo in them for the ride home from a match. And I don't load full if shooting stages with required reloads. I do shoot 3 matches a month and during the winter and fall months I practice a ton in between the matches. Haven't needed customer service and hope not to need it. Glad to know TTI is an alternative tho.

    ^^Absolutely ALL of this.

A stage can be legal but still a bad, boring, or stupid stage.  One of the reasons I have shot Production, SS, PCC, and CO at various times is so that when I design stages, I remember to think about it from different points of view.  When I started (only having shot Production) a couple of the local Open shooters would come by and vet my stages, and tell me about all the things I had missed from a hi-cap point of view.  (Which was initially a lot.)

Sure, everyone in [whatever] division has the same stage to shoot, and are "only" shooting against each other.  That doesn't mean that a legal stage can't be dumb or not fun to shoot, especially when compared to someone else in a different division shooting it.

People who design stages should (IMO) go past merely thinking "is this legal" and instead think "is this going to be fun to hi-cap pistol, lo-cap pistol, AND PCC to shoot?"  Adding "and there are multiple ways to shoot it" is even better.

I've  been primarily  SS shooter although I have started shooting some limited. It is amazing to see how quickly production numbers have dropped in some regions. Some matches I've looked at still have quite a few production shooters but other matches there's hardly any.

Single stack is suffering too. My son loves it, but the competition is drying up. Hi capacity optics divisions have crushed the production and single stack divisions for sure.
