    9mm 1911

thanks guys. The idea of wanting the slide going home a little sooner is what makes me think I may benefit from loading hotter. And again I shoot uspsa but I really don’t care how I do there it’s just for fun. I’d love a 1911 open gun for steel to see how good I am though!

    9mm 1911

I appreciate the suggestions I’ll look into those some. I’m a youngster and the force of recoil doesn’t bother me. In fact some of my faster stage times were shooting a 45 acp out of a 1911. Maybe I need to try loading hitter and get more snap I don’t know I’m just finally sticking with this gun so I want to start experimenting is all. Thanks!

    9mm 1911

Hey everyone. I’m shooting a 9mm 1911 and I want a good steel challenge load. I don’t care about power factor I just want somethin that recoils lightish and makes a decent ring on the steel. I know that light and fast is the mantra for an open steel gun but where to people tend to lean on iron sight steel gun? I’m using factory and not doing bad I just feel like I may be able to get better. Thanks ahead for any info
  4. I’m apparently phrasing pretty poorly. When I say I don’t care about points I should have said I don’t care about my performance. I agree that he should give people the correct calls but I don’t expect to score very high. I appreciate the point of view of straightening out the scorekeeper though you’re very right and I’ll work on being able to do that.
  5. I was agreeing with the last post above mine that the order a shooter goes through the stage can be interpreted in different ways and that’s what makes it tough for the RO to be sure that the individual engaged a target. Not that the rules are subject to arguing. And I never justified the rules to my behalf either I just didn’t understand it so I asked. I keep reiterating that I don’t care, that I accepted the penalties and that I was just curious. Thanks again for all the input
  6. Yeah it’s definitely subjective in a lot of situations. I certainly don’t want to give up points but I’m in the whatever gets us to the next shooter quicker mindset
  7. Yeah that all makes sense. If I sounded whiny i apologize. Let me be clear I don’t care one bit about my uspsa scores. Pulling the trigger is fun and that’s why I do it because it’s a fun game. That’s what I tell the people I shoot with when stage breakdown gets tedious I say guys we could all only hit no shoots and we’re still gonna go and have lunch just like if we’d won this thing. So I’m not griping about my penalties I was just curious if I could expect that or argue it the next time I leave one out. I appreciate all you guys taking the time to explain it to me it helps breaking it down into penalties at the shooter and then penalties st the target. Thanks again
  8. Yeah I can see how the fast ones might avoid a little nook that’s slow getting into for one long target or somethin. Not a problem for sure I have fun no matter how slow I go!
  9. Oh yes sir I believe ya It just doesn’t mke sense to me. and it clearly doesn’t matter it was my third match ever so there’s plenty more mistakes coming I was just curious
  10. Well hell. I’m not entirely sure how you can get penalized for not shooting a target and also penalized for shooting and missing but I suppose I don’t have to understand to get docked the points. Guess I better learn to find those cardboard devils pretty quick!
  11. Hey guys. I meant to post on here but completely forgot until just now. Several months ago I shot a local club match and did about how I would expect myself too. I forgot about a target that was hiding behind some barrels which didn’t surprise me cause my heart rate still skyrockets with the buzzer every time. But the guy running the timer gave me two FTE and two mikes for not engaging the target. I didn’t realize you got both. Was that a mistake or is that actually how it goes? Thanks in advance for your help!
  12. Alright everyone so I’m looking st Dawson precision and they sell the Tripp 10mm magazines for $34 then when you look for the 40sw magazines it says 10mm/40sw $39. I’m just wondering if they’re both sized for 10mm what’s the difference. Anyone able to explain the difference to a rookie? Thanks in advance!!
  13. One more for the RO Elite Target. I picked it up a couple weeks ago and it’s gone probly 600 rounds without a malfunction. And that’s using 38 Super mags with factory 9mm ammo. Trigger was decent out of the box but I figure we’re all going to tinker with the trigger so that doesn’t really make a difference in my mind. The one thing I’m not happy with is the finish. About 5 days worth of dry fire and there was holster wear up front on the slide. But again for the price point I’d definitely recommend it!
  14. Hey everyone. Just logged on to midway and starline brass is on sale. 38 supercomp is down to 15 cents apiece. Not low enough to go nuts but if you need it anyway take a look at it.
  15. Yeah I can see that being a deal breaker. Good luck!
  16. I’ll be another vote for the Magpul grips. I have one set that’s factory and one set that I stippled and that’s kinda one of the beauties is that if you can run a wood burning tool then you can choose your level of aggressiveness. And at $17 a pair it’s hard to argue with
  17. And as far as having fun the steel challenge is my new obsession. It’s takin over my life
  18. Yeah at this point for the money I’m getting factory stuff and my level of enjoyment I do better with factory. I’ll provly keep loading for practice and using factory for matches. And thanks for the heads up sarge I’ll look at the next one that does it and see if it’s out of center and I’ll be sure to let you know!
  19. I loaded em to 1.125 as per Hodgdon data and while that isn’t 1.165 like the 9 major crowd goes for it’s a tad longer than usual. So that’s what I meant by loaded long. And as far as hand priming goes its the only way I do it. My 650 was more problems than it was worth so I sold it. And I’m going to keep using the hand primer because I’ve never had problems out of any other gun I’ve loaded for using it. And the Glock ate the rest of the batch that was giving me trouble I didn’t cycle any of the light struck ammo simply because it sll happened during a match so I just cleared it and left it so I won’t know about that unfortunately! I just got a deal on some factory stuff and a new pistol so I’m gonna take a break from handloading match ammo anyway. Thanks for all the help guys!!
  20. Yeah it’s a lighter recoil spring
  21. I ran em through my Glock and they all went off without hitch so maybe it’s specific to the M&P. Who knows I’m gonna stick with factory for a little while anyway. Thanks!!
  22. Yeah I suppose it could be bad primers. But considering I taught myself without any real instruction I tend to think I’m the weak link until all other options are tried. I’ll look into it though!!
  23. Yeah I always hand prime and I haven’t ever had trouble on any of the calibers I load on. Not trouble like this. I measured my primer depth with a depth mic on some factory ammo and mine and it was less than a half thou different so I’m guessing I loaded this batch to the very edge of too long. Ill shorten em and see.
