    Lead Bullets

+1 to what tightloop said. Almost all FTF, that are not the Magizines fault, will be improper bullett setting depth with a 45 acp. The best way to find the correct depth is load up some at various depths. GO to the range start with the short ones and try untill all feed, that will be you min length. Continue until the long ones start to Fail to feed, that will be your max length. As long as you load that bullett weight and design to within that working length you should not have any problems. 4. Ok!! IF no one else will take the bait I will. What about just truning around the whole popper? That is the way we do it at our club. MDA
  5. Flex Great news!! Count me in as an RO or whatever you need. I'm sure MBSC can provide some stage equipment, chrono (So I can shoot the lights again ), ect. to make this match a great one. Mark
  6. For those stating an interest in seeing past USPSA National stages from 1985 to 1990 see link below. http://home.columbus.rr.com/jmaass/documents/sbnatls1.PDF
  7. Ok!! mods I think this is starting to belong in the humor section.
  8. Kathy We will squeeze in about 3 stages plus a classifier. The weather will be in the mid 20's sunday so we will not shoot outside, but, it will still be cold on the indoor range so dress warm. Since we are expecting a larger than normal turn out of shooters we will running two squads. First squad will start about 9:30 and for you out of towners the second squad will start at about 11:30. See ya sunday Mark
  9. Lawdog Well In IDPA, IPSIC, and USPSA those are the rules. I do not know about IMG so you need to look up the rule book for that sport. Some people like to pratice what they carry everyday so why not have matches the test these skills? Hence, IDPA requires shooting from concealment holsters and mags. Others just what to shoot fast and accurate without regard to cover and tac reloads etc. USPSA was created. You want to shoot with a pack, drop holster and BDU's. IMG sounds like the place for you.
  10. Lawdog Some of this would depend on what division you shoot in. But bacisly, No you can not use a drop leg holster. Grip of gun must not be below belt level regardless of what division you shoot. Production and Single stack divisions holster must be at or behind hip bone. Mark
  11. Guys, you need to read the rules. http://www.idpa.com/Documents/IDPARuleBook2005.pdf "Belt must be no wider than 1.75" or thicker than 5/16" and must pass through pants belt loops." "Must hold the firearm positioned on the body so an object of ¾”width cannot pass between the shooter’s body and the inside of the firearm when the shooter is standing straight and upright No spacers or fillers allowed." "May not position the firearm where the breech face (autos) or rear of the cylinder (revolvers) is below the center of the belt. NO drop loops are permitted." "Probably one of the most popular pouch style holsters is the current variation of the Uncle Mikes Kydex holster which is NOT suitable for concealed carry or IDPA competition due to its offset backpiece, which results in excessive offset from the belt/body."
  12. Miamisburg had 38 people show up for the monday night match. We normaly start the Sunday match around 10:00 am, but last two sunday matches we started at 9:30. With all the people coming in from out of town and the limited number of shooters we can run on the indoor range we may do two different start times. An early squad from 9:30 to 11:30 and a late squad 11:30 to 1:30. Mark
  13. John Why not? The indoor range is usually not much warmer than outside. TCK Classifier may be outside. Depends on weather and who plans the match. Also may depend on if we still have a pistol bay as we are in the process of rebuilding and adding bays. Mark
  14. Did you try the "reloading and load" section further down the fourm list. There is an area just for 45 loads. Sounds like you were given rounds for a bullseye type gun which usually have very light recoil springs. These are way under the major power factor as used for USPSA matches.
  15. Yep!! Them sights are hard to see when it gets dark. At our club, in Ohio where it's cold during the winter, we have an indoor range in which we have small matches during the winter. We run some of the stages in low light. Heck during the summer we do the same thing with one indoor stage at low light. Most people do not have a chance to shoot in low light and it is always surprise to them how hard it is to shoot quickly and accurately.
  16. This is a good primer for beginners, but you should use the correct range commands in the article.
  17. See the following articals of this subject. www.starreloaders.com/edhall/nwongarts.html Found this on another shooting forum, a few days ago, and this should answer your questions and also help your optometrist with fitting shooting glasses for you. These articals are written by a bulleyes Shooting Optometrist. I personaly have a set of shooting glasses that have a +0.5 diopter correction over my normal lenses in the dominate eye. This shortens the natural focal length back from 6 feet to about 5 feet or about the location of the front site. Site is in crisp focus and target is a little blurry. MDA
  18. JP As mentioned in an early post 38 super can only be loaded and shot major in open ! The reason for this is that there are no loads for 38 super that make major with out exceding SAMMI pressure specifications. THe 38 super is a very high pressure, loaded to major, round and should be only used in handguns designed for this load. The 38 super, loaded to major, also not the place to start learning to reload. All other divisions have a minimum of .40 cal as the smallest size that can be loaded to major. Limited 10 and production have a round limit of 10 in the mag so there is no advantage in using 38 super in anything other than open. The main reason 38 super is used in open division is that you can load more rounds in the magazine, Thus less reloading. PF = (bullet weight(grains) x velocity(fps))/1000 majof PF = 165 minimun
  19. A few years ago one of the clubs had a stage that had a bowling ball that you had to pickup and carry thru the stage and drop in a barrel before finishing. Had to go by several target before the barrel. Man was that thing heavy.
  20. CSEMARTIN, The charge/velocity listed is from the VihtaVuori manual. All guns are different and will result in different velocity for same charge. I personal would not use 310 with a 230 grain bullet. I feel that the powder is to fast. e.g. high pressure spikes. You can see that in the listing of the other slower powders, more powder with higher velocitys and still below SAMII safe pressures. With the faster powder you will have an initial high pressure spike with most of the powder burning before the bullet is even half way down the barrel.
  21. Manual says that 4.2 grain is the max load. I would go with a slower burning powder with the 230 grain bullet. 230 FMJ-RN Hornady Start Max gn FPS gn FPS N310 3,7 719 4,2 771 N320 4,9 784 5,2 850 N340 5,9 830 6,4 912 N350 6,7 845 7,2 920
  22. Well the best place to look is Vihtavuori load data manual. The manual shows a start load, for 185 jacked bullet, of 5.8 grains of vv320 which should give a velocity of 955 FPS which is a PF of 176, more that enough for major in IPSIC or IDPA.
