  1. I know you said you narrowed it down to those three but just throwing it out there but there's a Infinity IMM 9mm open for sale in the classifieds. Infinity wait times are crazy so there's another option for a highend open gun without the wait, but it's still expensive. You can't really go wrong with any of these options though. I'd say what's your budget and go from there. Atlas probably has the best customer service out of them, all atleast I hear great things about them.
  2. I just got an evo grip, I guess I'll be buying a limcat magwell now too lol. Looks like it would be hard to miss a reload but I'm sure I'll still find a way ?
  3. Well from what I've read 9mm seems to be the way im gonna go but i have a really nice Akai limited 40 and idk if it might just be better to have a upper made in 9 or just sell all my limited stuff and get an already built open gun? I also threw around the idea of just having a barrel and comp fit to my current slide and just run 40. I have a DPP on the Akai right now just to try out what it would kinda be like to run open but I'm running minor loads so recoil is a lot less, i also have a couple 170 mags that hold 25-26rds. I definitely know that im going open i had a lot more fun with that than limited and didnt do really that bad. my last match considering it was my first time, running minor, no comp and lower capacity than the other guys and there where 3 master shooters there i came in 7th out of 12 should have been 6th but they called one of my shots a miss but the video i have says something different but it is what it is. everybody else was also running major. Major problem for me was finding the dot but thats just practice and shouldnt take to long to get over i think.
  4. I disengage the safety as I am coming up to get my sight picture. since I started shooting a 2011 that is naturally what I did when disengaging the safety and it seems perfectly safe to me. number one safety is keeping your finger out of the trigger guard and off the trigger until your ready to shoot
  5. Not what I would call skill but considering I've only shot about 15 or so matches ever and also dont practice to much and gone from production to limited to open in less than a 2 year span i think my performance was pretty good since I was also shooting 40 minor no comp and there was 3 master shooters at this match. I think open is in my future that dot is so much easier to focus on just have to get used to finding the dot lol its also really fun.
  6. I also have been really thinking about this, music always seems me more focus and pump me up at the same time, oddly enough EDM works best for me which some might think it would have the opposite effect lol. It has to be something about the beat more than anything else and since there's no lyrics usually it doesn't distract me by hearing actual singing. I haven't tried it though because I've thought it might not be a great idea since it might be harder to hear range commands, not that id have the music loud just enough so i can hear it. Im gonna have to give it a try one of these days and see how it goes. They where just talking about the halo on Practical Shooting after Dark on youtube seemed interesting but also not cheap.
  7. Atlas is gonna be at Area 8 championship this weekend and I'm gonna take a look at there gun and have a talk with them. I wonder if they would sell the gun without the optic and mount at a lower price seeing as i already have them, i guess that will be a question ill ask them.
  8. Is the Atlas Chaos really worth the extra $1500 it would cost over a ck arms thunder? When you figure I'm going to need to buy mags also that would probably cost around $500-600 unless i can find a good deal on some mags. It's kinda hard to justify spending over 6k to me to get into open unless the Atlas is really just that much better.
  9. Yeah I've read through a lot in this forum and there are so many conflicting opinions and experiences that its hard to really judge what is really common issues or special things to watch for with 9mm open. At matches I see more people having issues with 9mm open or open guns in general than any other division, ive been shooting limited a little this year and over about 3k rounds ive had absolutely zero issues and i dont go crazy with mag tunning and it doesnt need much maintenance. I know open is a different animal but im just looking for opinions on 9mm on reliability and things to watch for.
  10. My next qustion is i can get a pretty good deal on an sti trubor with a bunch of mags and other parts, would it be worth it for me to get the trubor or should I just save up some more money and just buy a new ck arms?
  11. I've heard 9mm has some issues with ejecting especially if your using a standard optic mount not a 90 degree but what is the real issues extractor, ejector, both or other issues? I've also heard some issues with mags like feeding issues and bullets in the mags getting jamed. do you have to pay careful attention to mags, are there betters mags and guts then others that have less issues and need less maintenance?
  12. I'm looking to get into open with a 2011 and was wondering what issues are there with getting 9mm to run reliably or things to watch out for? Like extraction/ejection, feeding/mag issues, do you have to pay closer attention to your brass things like that. Thanks
  13. Thanks for the info, i was just wondering would it really matter if you used Pam or some other oil? I would assume it probably doesnt really mater.
  14. The EGW 5 chamber looks very close to the bedell which i hear good things about, i was looking at the EGW comps before i started this thread, was mainly looking at the 5 and 6 chamber comps from EGW so its good to here that they work good also l.
  15. Believe me I've thought about it, but then ill have to buy more mags theres atleast $600, then a new slide, barrel, and comp and have them fit to each other and the frame. I'm guessing that would probably cost around $1000-1200 for the parts and to have a competent gunsmith do the work. So I'd think it's safe to say it would cost about $2000 to get up and running in 9mm open. Yes I could sell the 40 mags and that would probably cover the cost of 9mm mags. But I'd also like being able to go back to a limited gun if I wanted to. Cost wise it just makes sense to me, I figure it'll cost $600-800 to go to 40 open. In the end the only other option that would make sense to me would be to sell the limited setup and buy a 9 open gun which isn't out of the question either.
  16. Haha yeah I like being different lol. But i already have a nice 2011 limited gun and a barrel change and a comp is all i need to convert to an open gun oh and an optic and mount which I already have. I also have a couple 170mm mags and a whole bunch of 140mm. So it just makes sense cost wise for me. I also think 40 is more reliable than 9mm as far as feeding and having issues with rounds getting jammed in the mags. The only disadvantage i see is capacity but really how often is it that there isnt a place to not really lose time with a reload. This might sound a little stupid as well but 40 is bigger than 9 so if your close to the perf with 9 you might actually break the perf if you where shooting 40 I've seen that a bunch of people are using them for 40, so might be good then i guess
  17. I'm gonna be building a 2011 open gun using my limited gun in 40sw and I'm trying to decide on which compensator would work best for it. Is there anybody with experience running 40sw open or just recommendations from others on what comps would probably work best? Thanks.
  18. I got the double alpha shielded thumb safety, after a few minor tweaks I really like it. I reshaped the profile for my thumb and hand, I was having issues with both sides digging into my hands and also pushing up on the safety because of it, now it's perfect. one other thing is I made the detent for the plunger deeper so when the safety was disengaged it had a more positive click and locked in just a bit tighter so it wouldn't engage the safety quite as easily by accident.
  19. Damn, sounds like you have your hands full, thats a lot of reloading. just figured id ask since its been a few weeks. I'm gonna pick some sport pistol up and start testing it. Hopefully ill have some loads in the next couple weeks and ill post them up here and give my impression what its like. Thanks for the info you already have up it'll help get me going in the right direction.
  20. Did you ever get to do more testing with sport pistol?
  21. That is the same thing that I noticed, once I figured that out it works great.
  22. I also had some issues with my alpha x holster for the gold team binding. If I where to draw from the holster outward away from my body just a little bit the gun would bind really bad, it would feel like the holster safety was still on. So after I figured out that the way I was drawing the gun was causing an issue I tried to be more deliberate in drawing it strait out of the holster or slightly in toward my body, again an extremely small amount and the holster ran great. I looked the insert over really good tried to get the gun to bind in the insert when it wasn't in the holster and it didn't seem to bind as bad but still was. In the end I ended up smoothing all the sharp edges of the insert where the trigger guard locked in and also smoothed out around the trigger guard on the gun, which wasn't a bad thing to do anyways since the edges are pretty shard to begin with in my opinion. It got better with doing that, it still has a little binding issue though not as bad and it keeps getting better the more I use it. I also draw slightly different now but the way I'm drawing the gun now actually feels more natural and smoother to me but with the amount of money the alpha x holster costs I would have hoped that there would be absolutely no issues with it.
  23. Ok great that's what I was hoping, thanks.
  24. I'm wondering if adding material to the backstrap of like a glock in order to change the profile is legal as long as it doesn't add a beaver tail or a magwell like the grip force backstrap but removing the beavertail http://www.armslist.com/posts/3451075/fayetteville-arkansas-handguns-for-sale--glock-17-gen-4 or modifying one of the factory glock backstrap to change the profile? It says you can replace grip panels but is the backstrap considered a grip panel I think it might be but I don't know.
