  1. I got a $25 gift card for Nowlin Arms at the Buckeye Blast. I don’t see myself ever using it. If you plan on making a purchase, shoot me a DM and I’ll send you the code.

  2. How is working for you.. I have a chaos in the making.. AA 7 is going to be one of my powders

I just got finished testing 5 different powders. Hs6, WAC, Silo, AA7 and Shooters World Major pistol (Lovex). In the end, Lovex came out on time with AA7 a pretty close second.

If you’re interested I have my data on all 5. Send me a PM if you want and I can send it to you.
  3.
These days you need to follow your desired bulletmaker on Instagram or Facebook. That’s where I got in on Everglades and BlueBullets both being 10% or more off.

I didn’t see the sale on either shop’s website.

Sign up for Everglades email list as well. They don’t overdue it with the emails but if they have a deal going on you’ll know about it.
  4. In my humble opinion a thumb rest should be used as an anchor point but a majority of people use it as a pressure point. This will effect how the dot tracks quite a bit. Instead of straight up and down you get a slight sideways wave. I don’t use one because I think a proper grip won’t be made better with a thumb rest present.

  5. Okay, so this is a little crazy to me.  I posted this in another thread, but thought maybe this was a better place for it:

I'm having a hard time even making major.  I'm currently loading some RMR hollow point match winners, plated, 124gr, 9mm bullets.  This is through a Czechmate with a throated barrel, loading to 1.165.  I've gone up to 7.4gr of WAC and I'm only at 1240FPS.
I've also tried this Shooters World Major Pistol, and I've gone to 9.9 grains and I haven't even broken 1200FPS.  I'm standing somewhere between 10-12' from the chrono (Prochrono Digital).  Using Fiocchi SPP and Remington SPP.  I didn't record anything because I hadn't even gotten close to 1330 FPS.

Any thoughts?  Not sure how to "calibrate" or 'Confirm' the chrono.  Maybe use some factory ammo?  I'm completely new to major and making minor never seemed  like a problem.  I just used a friend's chrono to confirm and stuck with the same load all the time.

Yeah doesn’t sound right. 7gr of autocomp has me at a 169pf and 9.7gr of Lovex is the same. I’d compare with your friends chrono if you can. Also are you sure your powder scale is accurate? Do you have a weight to test it?
  6.  Nice. I sent mine back in Jan. and they changed out the slideride for the RTS2 which took care of the stovepipe problems. I figured it was only a matter of time before it cracked, it had the larger side cuts that touched the top line on the comps side, just like all of the others that I have seen that have cracked. At least it's this time of the year and not in the summer.

Actually that isn’t even where mine cracked. I know that’s the normal spot but mine was on the bottom where the comp meets the barrel. You can kind of see it in this pic. Only reason I knew something happened was because I had rounds hitting like 5 feet high while practicing... I was skipping them off the comp on the way out.

  7. So the Lovex D037-01 sounds like its a clone of AA#7 (same density & similar charges), but with reports of being temp sensitive?

AA#7 has not shown to be temp sensitive for me, and performs as good as anything I have tried (long list).

I read about it being temp sensitive somewhere but I can’t remember where now. Probably a forum. I think I put that there just to remind myself to test the theory, which I should do this weekend.
  8. In consistency is that powder as fine as silhouette? Hard to tell the grain make up in the photo.

Loading on a 1050 if you get a crushed primer or such silhouette will drain the entire case into your shell plate.

Probably hard to tell here too but Lovex is certainly finer than Silo.

  9.
Could you load a resized 9MM case to the very top with Lovex D037-01 (scrape off flat) and then measure that amount please?

I'm curious how it compares to the others I've measured:
                     full 9mm
    powder     case
    ---------        --------
    WAC          12.3
    N350           9.4
    HS-6          13.9
    True Blue  14.2
    W572         10.9   *
    3N37          10.2
    3N38          10.2
    AA#7          13.8
    * data from other BE user

13.8 to the rim. Just like AA#7

Thanks, that would be great, much appreciated..

Here is a pic of 9.7gr. There’s still some room left...

  10. Thanks, that would be great, much appreciated.. Lovex seems to be the holy grail for open. Its not well known due to lack of data, but your post will open the eyes to many.
I've know of this powder for several years but never had the need to use until now, just placed a deposit for a chaos.
In my opinion 3n38 is the next best thing but just much of a pain to load.
    Thanks again.

You’re welcome. I hadn’t even heard of it until maybe a month ago. I loaded up another 100 rounds last night to run a few drills with but my initial thoughts are very positive.

Yeah absolutely. That’s some good data you got. I’ll do that when I get home.
  12. Great information thanks for sharing, with your lovex load how full was the case at 9.7gr.. I hear a lot of good things about this powder, looking to try it on 115gr bullets.. 3n38 is a pain to load..
    Thanks

Thank you. I guess I should have mentioned this in the original post but I load on a Hornady LNL right now which has a pretty good snap to it when the shell plate rotates. So the powder spilling probably wouldn’t be quite as big of a deal with other presses I assume.

There’s still some room left, certainly not to the top. I’ll take a picture of a case when I get home this afternoon so you can see what I mean. I can also fill one to 10+ gr which is where I’d guess you’d be at with a 115 and see where that gets you.
  13. This is some really great information. I just tested some Accurate #7 yesterday and found my chaos need more like 9.9-10 gr. from what some of the guys I know that use AA7 a little bit higher PF works better for that powder. I have been using 8.1 of HS6 and honestly I couldn't tell much of a diffrence between the two. But I need to do some more testing. Im interested in your findings of the Shooters World Major powder. Might have to pick up a pound of that and try it out, if I can find it that is.

Thanks. It was a fun project. I got that Shooters World Major from Grafs. I’ll probably start looking for an 8lb bottle soon.
  14. Alright, I just finished testing those 5 powders I mentioned before. It was difficult to do it all in one sitting due to Thanksgiving and all that so I was just running out back and testing one after work or when I had a little time. I plan to shoot them all together at some point and I’d also like to get some slow-mo of the gun shooting each but that’ll be another time. Also the notes are stuff that I found important. Obviously they may be different with a different shooter. Don’t take them as the gospel. Hopefully this can help some of you that may want to try a different recipe.

    Accurate #7
    Caliber: 9mm
    COAL: 1.165
    Bullet Weight: 124gr Everglades JHP
    Primer: Winchester SPP
    Charge: 9.6gr
    PF: 172
Muzzle Rise: Dot stays in screen.
Dot Tracking: Straight up and down. Little bit of a bounce.
    Punch: Moderate
    Accuracy: Good
Double Tap: Returns high. Dot had a streak to it .
Other: Meters terrific. Case is close to top but doesn’t spill on press. Loud.

    Shooters World Major (Lovex) D037-01
    Caliber: 9mm
    COAL: 1.165
    Bullet Weight: 124gr Everglades JHP
    Primer: Winchester SPP
    Charge: 9.7gr
    PF: 169
    Muzzle Rise: Very little rise.
Dot Tracking: Straight up. Returned to zero very well.
    Punch: Soft in hand.
    Accuracy: Good
    Double Tap: Quick and clean.
Other: Apparently it’s temp sensitive. Meters well. Spills easy. Relatively loud.

    Silhouette
    Caliber: 9mm
    COAL: 1.165
    Bullet Weight: 124gr Everglades JHP
    Primer: Winchester SPP
    Charge: 7.7gr
    PF: 171
Muzzle Rise: Decent rise to top of screen.
Dot Tracking: Straight up and down. No dip.
    Punch: Moderate punch.
    Accuracy: Good.
    Double Tap: Clean and quick.
Other: Meters great. Spills easy on the press. Not to loud.

    HS6
    Caliber: 9mm
    COAL: 1.165
    Bullet Weight: 124gr Everglades JHP
    Primer: Winchester SPP
    Charge: 8.1gr
    PF: 171
Muzzle Rise: Dot rises to top of screen.
Dot Tracking: Slight wobble? Returns a little low.
    Punch: Moderate/Heavy
    Accuracy: Good
Double Tap: Fast doubles seemed rough compared to others. I would say not great but not terrible either.
Other: Doesn’t seem as loud as other powders. Doesn’t meter the best.

    Winchester Auto Comp
    Caliber: 9mm
    COAL: 1.165
    Bullet Weight: 124gr Everglades JHP
    Primer: Winchester SPP
    Charge: 7.0gr
    PF: 169
Muzzle Rise: Pretty good. Not quite to top of screen.
Dot Tracking: Straight up and down. Slight dip.
    Punch: Relatively soft.
    Accuracy: Good.
Double Tap: A lot of “bounce” on doubles. I had a tendency to shoot high on the second shot.
Other: Not to loud comparatively. Gassy.

I still have some messing around to do but as of right now Lovex will be what I’m shooting. It felt great to shoot and easy to go fast with.

  15. Play it safe and start low.  Every barrel is different.  My main Open gun will not eject anything lower than 160PF.   So I start low with a new powder.  I load up 3 or 5 rounds for each step of the ladder.  Then I go shoot them.  When the load just dribbles out I know I'm at 160-162.  I keep going until the load feels 'right'.  Then I load up some more and chrono.

    Great advise. Thanks
  16. I've only been using it a short time, but I can say it is a lot cleaner than HS-6, at least in a 172PF load.  Never used AA7, so I can't comment.  Another thing to like is it needs more powder, so you get more gas.  It is more pleasant to shoot than WAC or HS-6.  10 gr fills the case a little less than 9.4 gr 3N38.  My current plan is to use up the WAC and Silhouette I have for minor Steel loads.  HS-6 is way too dirty at minor, so I'll sprinkle what I have left in the garden.  Going forward, my plan is to use up my 3N38 for minor and stick with 37.1/Major for major.

So you’re using 10gr and highhope is using 10.5. I was going to start testing at 9gr but from your numbers I’m thinking that’ll be a little low. Maybe I should get a little closer to 10?
  17. Can't wait to hear the results. A local shooter did some very similar tests with the above powders except SWM. He ended up sticking with 3n38 with A#7 in the 2nd spot.

Crap 3n38 was another I wanted to try. I’ll try to get my hands on some. With that said I really don’t want to like it. That stuff ain’t cheap

    Also looking forward to it.

My atlas is due in December and I have only been using HS6 also.

You running 9mm or 38? Mine will be 9

    Mine is 9mm as well

  18. I figured sense it’s the start of the off season for me, now would be a good time to try a few different powders and experiment a bit. I was using HS6 in my old gun so that’s all I really have experience with in my Chaos. I ordered a pound of each of the following:

    Accurate #7
    WAC
    Silhouette
    Shooters World Major
Already have HS6 (Currently using 8.2gr)

In the next month or so I’ll find a good load for each and then compare all 5 and see which feel I like better. If I’m really feeling ambitious I might even try each with 115gr bullets for the hell of it. Initial testing will be with 124’s.

I’ll be sure to keep track of everything and post any valuable results here for guys that might want to try something different.
