  1. Have you tried doing doubles drill while shooting video of the gun from the side? You can then see if this is a grip issue, joint issue or if you are pushing the gun down too much to counter recoil. Put the camera on a tripod or some other brace so it doesn't move. You can play the video in slow-mo with index points on the screen to see how everything is reacting to the shot. Sent from my SM-G930U using Tapatalk
  2. I found yellow lenses made red FO pop the most. I where orange for my green FO. That's my personal experience, not a peer reviewed study so I could be wrong. Sent from my SM-G930U using Tapatalk
  3. Haha. Yes. That is what I meant. AFTER my last shot. Sent from my SM-G930U using Tapatalk
  4. I'm new to USPSA. Only shot 4 matches and I still find myself pretty amped at the end of a stage. I've gotten into the habit of taking a second or two on my last shot to collect myself and then bring the gun down and start the process of clearing and holstering. I try not to get fancy with it. I remove the mag and put in a pouch. I eject the round onto the ground. I point the firearm down range and pull the trigger to drop the hammer. Then I holster. Sent from my SM-G930U using Tapatalk
  5. ****UPDATE**** Shot a match yesterday with the new recoil spring. Happy to report zero problems. Well, with my gun at least. Wish I could say the same for memorizing my stage plan. Also happy to say I had no issues with light strikes. I have had a few in recent practice session but adjust my primer depth and that fixed it. Sent from my SM-G930U using Tapatalk
  6. Hey thanks for all the helpful advice. I got busy the last couple of days and couldn't reply. So I do quite a bit of dry fire. Everyday. Many days i do multiple sessions. Also doing live fire at least once per week. I run a DA/SA gun. SP-01 to be specific. In dry fire what I normally do is my initial DA pull with the draw and then just acquire sight picture with no press. Alternatively, i will sometime pin my hammer back with a hair tie and then i will do trigger presses on all targets. Its simulated SA pretty closely with the trigger pinned back. Not sure if this makes sense. I don't see a lot of sight movement, if any when I'm dry fire. However, I'm going to make sure I'm keeping myself honest in dry fire when I'm working on faster splits and transitions. I may be moving the sight more than I'd like to think. I'm gonna hit the range tomorrow and wear my hat cam. I only shot video from the side . The fortunate thing is that my grip appears to be good. The trigger guard is not separating from support hand index finger. My hands and gun are moving as one unit. Wrists seems pretty locked. Muzzle is not dipping down when the gun returns and I fire the next shot. Now what I did notice is that I'm moving back a little with it shot. More than I'd like. My the end of a 10 shot string, my nose and muzzle are about an inch, maybe a tad more further back than where I started. Now, this was at an indoor range and my shooting tends to always be worse than when I shoot outdoors I always feel cramped. Can never quite get in my natural shooting stance. I also can't see my sights worth a damn because the lighting sucks. Like I said, will try some drills tomorrow with the side cam and a POV cam. I can then really see what my muzzle and sights are doing in slow-mo during live fire. I'm gonna shoot again on Thursday but outdoors. See if my performance is any different. I will let you guys know how it goes and I will post up some of the video. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  7. I've been shooting doubles lately to work on my splits and accuracy. I decided to video my grip and such to see why my groups aren't where I want them to be. Good news is my grip is solid. Gun and hands move as one. My wrists are good and elbows are also good. Stance seems right. Bad news is when I'm shooting fast splits, I'm slapping the crap out of the trigger. I don't have this issue when I slow things down. I think this is causing some of my issues. Can you guys recommend some drills to work on this issue? Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  8. I was running lighter loads before no problems. Problems started with my hotter loads. They run just shy over 140 PF. The heavier springs seems to have fixed it. Hitting the range again on thursday where I will shoot quite a bit so hopefully things hold the same. I have a match Sunday.
  9. I joined PSTG. Really great resource. Thank you. Sent from my SM-G930U using Tapatalk
  10. Quick Update... Changing out the recoil spring from the 13# to the 14# seems to have worked. I've had to training sessions with no issues with the new spring. Thought I'd share in case others have the same problem and just to close this out. Sent from my SM-G930U using Tapatalk
  11. I'm a newer competitor. Started this past January. I taped and helped reset steel targets on every stage from my first match. Assumed this was a no brainer and something everyone does. You know, understand etiquette of the sport you're participating in. I was wrong. In subsequent matches, we've had new shooters squad up with our squad. Not all of them are so eager to help out with the chores. The last match, we had 2 new guys that came together. I don't remember ever seeing them even make an attempt to tape. I mentioned it to one of them thinking maybe they just don't know. They still didn't. Then, on the last stage, as soon as they were done shooting they packed up and left even though there were several in the squad that hadn't shot the stage. Go figure. 12. MIND BLOWN! I do something like this but I take 10 individual measures. So drop, measure, dump powder back in hopper, repeat. Your technique is much more efficient. Love it. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  13. No worries man. It's a learning process. I just started reloading at the beginning of the year. It's not rocket science but it is nuanced so some things are less obvious. Lots of great guys on this forum that are always willing to help newbs like us. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  14. 1. Take a case, put on your scale and zero the scale. 2. Now take that same case and run it through the powder drop station 3. Remove the case with the powder and measure it on the scale. Not sure if this is how you're doing it. Doesn't sound like it. Sounds like you're dumping the powder onto the scale and measuring it. By the way, I find that Tightgroup meters very well. Very consistent. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  15. I'm still overly focused on the reload. Especially at shorter distances. I see my entry position but in my periphery. My eyes are on the magwell until I've reloaded. I started working on dropping/pulling the mag at exit and then inserting on entry but it needs more work. Been busy so haven't had time but to practice this once in live fire and a couple time in dry. However, I've been working on shorter movement reloads in dry, in the house during conference calls for work. I think this is helping get the reload while moving into my subconscious more. I am glad you mention this. I bought some cones and am actually going to start running drills without the gun. Good workout but also to remind myself of what it feels like to move at speed, work on my footwork. Just like when I played baseball. Like I said, it's been a while since I had a reason to burst like this. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  16. I will add that if you're going to be OCD about something, then make that ensuring you visibly check every case for powder BEFORE you seat the bullet. This will prevent squibs and double loads.
  17. I dumped my Directv a couple of months ago. I can't believe I was paying $150 per month for it. We actually use all 3 of the services you listed. Although I find that we watch Hulu the least. Netflix we watch the most but just by a a little over Amazon. Amazon Prime comes with free music streaming and, of course, free shipping so more value there. I would recommend you start with Prime and Netflix and then see from there. Both have their own series and movies that are often quite good. You may also want to check out Sling for network and live TV over Hulu. My niece has it and loves it.
  18. Wanted to share my positive experience with Brazos Precision. I placed an order for 5 x 778 count packs of their 135gr RN over the long Memorial Day weekend. Bullets shipped out on the following Wednesday. I got them on Friday via US Mail. Very pleased with their shipping. Unfortunately, one of the two boxes was ripped open. The plastic bag was cut open. By weight estimate, over 500 of the projectiles were missing. Not Brazos fault. This was clearly mishandling by USPS. The boxes were packed and reinforced in the same way but only one, the smaller one was damaged. And it looks like it was done intentionally. I sent an email with photos Friday evening expecting not to get a response till Monday. I got a reply from Paul at Brazos within 10 minutes of my email. He apologized and said he would send me a replacement pack immediately. I got the order confirmation with a couple of minutes, shipping confirmation on Monday and today I received my bullets. A true measure of company's customer service is how they respond to when things don't go perfect. I couldn't ask for better service. Truly. You bet I will be ordering from them again. I plan on loading up some test rounds in the next week. I will also share how they shoot. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  19. I'm gonna give my mags a good cleaning but I don't think this is the issue. I also have 2 brand new mags that I will use during my next range day to rule it out. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  20. I can try some factory ammo. Good idea so I can rule out my rounds. I'm gonna polish the breach face like you guys are suggesting as well. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  21. Hmm... I didn't inspect the rounds that closely so not sure. I will try polishing the underside of breach face like you suggest. Can't hurt. I think I'm also gonna order another 13# and an 11# spring just to try. Good to have some spares anyhow. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  22. Hey Grumpy. Not a double feed. The round just doesn't chamber at all. When its happened, all I have to do is rack the slide and all is good. Round chambers. The slide is cycling enough to eject the spent casing except for once today, the last time it happened. Further, it's happened at different round counts. What I mean is that it's not happening only when there are, say, 2 rounds left in the mag. It's happened with almost a full mag and with just one round left. And as I mentioned in the OP, with multiple mags. Doesn't seem like a mag issue. This gun has been flawless since I bought it. Eats through everything I put it in. Never one issue. This happened in Monday and again today. Nothing is different. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  23. Hey guys. Hoping you can help me narrow things down a bit. I think this is an issue with recoil spring weight but let's see what you all think. I've had quite a bit of problems the last couple of times at the range. SP-01 manual safety model. CGW Pro Kit installed. Several failures of a round chambering. At first I thought it was one mag but ruled that out. Happened with at least 3 different mags. Today, I had a stove pipe; case didn't eject all the way. I'm currently running a CGW 13# recoil spring. I'm shooting my own loads. 135gr coated bullet with 3.7gr of Tightgroup with a 1.12 COAL. Chrono yields about 1040 fps so about 140 PF. Rounds plunk and chamber fine so I don't think they're too long. The odd thing is that I was shooting a lighter loads before without any of these problems and same internals. Could it be that the spring is worn out; has lost tension? I've shot at least 10k rounds with it. Maybe more. Or maybe it's something else. Really need to get this figured out before my next match. Thanks for any help you can give. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  24. Add a bullet puller to your list. You'll need it. As far as good load, I shoot an SP-01 as well. I'm also an inmate of Kalifornia. I shoot 135gr DG Bullets RN coated projectile. 3.6gr of Tightgroup. Winchester primers. Mixed range brass. 1.12 COAL. This shoots pretty accurate out of my SP-01. About 2.5" group at 25 yards, standing, unsupported. About 135 PF. I was shooting a lighter load. 3.3 gr of Tightgroup. Recoil was soft but a bit too slow for my sights to return. I like the little bit more pop. You need the chrono to measure velocity to ensure you make minor Power Factor. Where you at? If you're near me would be happy to meet at the range and you can use my chrono. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  25. Want to add a few more things I've learned in my short reloading career. Find a load you like, that shoots well from your gun and stick with it. A load that shoots decent groups at 25 yards. No need for anything more than that. Don't go chasing the perfect load. You'll waste time and ammo. Pay very close attention when you're loading. It's not rocket science for the loads we make for action pistol shooting but it's easy to screw up if you're distracted. Setup your press someplace where you can load in peace. I loaded one squib because my wife decided she wanted to chat about weekend plans while I was loading. Just a minor distraction like this is all it takes. Lastly, wait for sales and buy stuff in bulk. That's where you'll find the savings. Right now, there is a 20% off rebate for federal primers. Midway has no cost hazmat fee. Look for those deals and take full advantage of them. Nothing like have a store of components and loading whenever you need more rounds. Hope this helps. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
