  1. There was a thread recently that went into this. What seemed to be the quasi consensus was: Shorter guns transition and point more easily. Longer guns are softer and can be flatter. Shorties require firmer grip but can be really driven around easily. The gap between the two has closed significantly with metal grips and titanium comps which all move the center of mass closer to the trigger finger and give less of a feeling of a lot of weight hanging out there. A PT Evo grip is going to far outweigh an extra .4" of barrel/slide. Also, the dust cover length and thickness is another variable that a lot of gun makers like to play around with. The best advice seems to be to hold different styles of guns to see which you prefer. But also realize that practice will probably nullify most of the differences when actually in play. Me? I'm going full length. Bc it's always easier to go shorter than to go longer. (Well, sort of)
  2. Any other cheaper bullet besides everglades? I ask because Everglades is in FL which means I'd have to pay sales tax for any purchase.
  3. You mentioned early that 9 major with 115 grn bullets and a slow powder is the way to go. Do you have a specific combo you'd suggest a new shooter start with so I can buy components in bulk? I'm also looking to have Don make my gun.
  4. I feel emasculated. But then again, I, too want to make it to the point where I can measure my reloading components levels in presidential administrations.
  5. I'm in communication with Don right now for some upper work (slide/frame/barrel fitting) and while I haven't had any work done by him yet, he has been nothing but kind, courteous, and prompt in responding to my inquiries.
  6. I'm not sure if anyone has made one, but it's that time of year again for me so I was hoping to reach out to the community. Nationals is done. The components pile is running low. And my CC has gone a bit long without being flogged for primers and powders. I'd prefer to support a forum vendor but with so many and all of them using different methods of announcing deals, I was wondering if we could have a compilation thread. Think of it as an Oscar highlight reel but instead it's credit card debt.
  7. I'd like to use the same optic and was wondering whether the 2 sided mount was necessary or not.
  8. Honestly I'm tempted to do this. I am planning an open gun build and the prospect of sorting 9mm brass by headstamp is just nauseating. I don't even care about speed (although I think I could get this operating pretty quickly). It's more about reliability. Maybe I'll make a separate thread about how to DIY this.
  9. That's really promising since I had thought that the main drawback to the Caspian hi cap was that it was so mag-troubled. Do you know if you can buy the tubes direct from MecGar?
  10. When you say Caspian open gun, you mean their high cap frame? And when you say tanfo extensions, these are going on mag bodies from Caspian, though, right?
  11. I'm assuming you're running the TevoArms mount for the 510? How hard was it to drill and tap the holes for the mount? Does it fit into a standard cmore mount? And where do you choose to locate the mount?
  12. For mid length builds like these, I assume that it's a 5" slide that's been cut back, but what barrel length do you go for? And is it cone or bull?
  13. Actually, you make a great point. I got my last frame, slide, and grip safety from JEM and they fit and blended it fantastically. I didn't know Gans does custom cuts but that's a good option.
  14. I've been considering something similar and the real sticking point is that any barrel with the comp will need the 1 degree cut at the front to provide enough clearance for the compensator.
  15. Also because the dot adds mass to the rear of the slide which is, at least for me, an uncomfortable place to have the center of mass shifted to.
  16. No dice. Guns in the CO division need to be guns on the prod list with approved modifications. By extension, that means no 2011s.
  17. Thanks for all this info. When compared to 2011s, do you find a CZ platform open gun to be lacking?
  18. I heard similar and saw some shooters switching to American Eagle b/c they didn't trust syntech.
  19. And I am assuming that this runs 9 major, then? Do you need to use a throating reamer to load long?
  20. Now that is beautiful machining. A question I have, though, is whether you can use 2011 optics mounts on the Czechmate. I'm thinking of running a Holosun 510C on it but I think there's only a 2011 optics mount made for it.
  21. Thanks for all the info, friends. I think I'll just start with a Czechmate. I'm worried, though, that the gun is going to be too long and front-heavy. I've only shot production with a Shadow 2 so I admit I know next to nothing.
  22. I'm just wondering if I start with a TSO whether there is a way to retain the ability to shoot it as a limited gun while also shooting 9 major in open.
  23. That's awesome. Without going to a smith, is there a way to convert a TSO to that in 9 major? I realize the biggest issue is that the comped barrel requires a shortened slide. Is there a readily available solution? I feel so hesitant to chop a TSO slide when CZ slides and barrels are so difficult to come by.
