I’ve experimented with 135gr, 147gr and 160gr for open major. technically the slowest burning powder will yield more gas for the comp but the issue that arises is the available case volume with a heavier bullet that has to be seated deeper. I did loads in the 170-172pf range so comparisons are similar. I found the 147gr and 160gr didn’t have enough gas to work the compensator, basically felt like a CO gun, dot left the window to. The 135gr was the best of the 3 but was still worse then my 124gr loads. I wanted to experiment with some 115gr but the needed powder to make PF is higher then I’d like. If we had a 160pf requirement I’d definitely give them a try.

I just have the standard sp01 threaded barrel. No difference between safety models and that goes for all the parts other then FCG.

Do NOT remove material from the lugs!!! Fitting is done on the Back of the hood/chamber.

Biggest reason you see the top guys using 38sc in a "2011" is it's more reliable for the platform. 1911/2011 was never designed to run 9mm. Look at JJ, he is running a Beretta in 9mm. Cz's are designed for 9mm so they're more reliable.

Czechmate is actually the tac sport frame not 75 series so mags are a bit longer front to back.

Best thing you could do is throat the barrel so you can load as long as your mags can handle. 1.16-1.18 is a good goal. Throw out the part of 38sc shooting flatter because all you're doing is chasing something that won't make a that much better, practice and dry fire will have better effects then what 38sc would get you.

If you're really worried about pressure in 9mm major then use shellshock technologies cases. They can take the pressure without an issue. Way cheaper than 38sc brass too.

Would 38sc fit in the mag? Lengthening the chamber wouldn't be bad. Really just comes down to mag and also if it will clear the ejection port.

Accurate #7 Shooters world major pistol. HS-6 All 3 work great for coated 9mm major. I personally prefer .356 in coated if I can get them.

To me balance is very important. The shadow 1 has great balance in stock form. The shadow 2 feels very nose heavy but once some brass grips are added it's perfect. I also have the czc A01LD and absolutely love that thing. With time and practice a heavier gun will not slow one down in transitions, yes it takes more practice time to refine those transitions. Ergos are still the most important. Da/sa guns take time to get used to too. There are so many good options on the market these days, all depends on budget and ergos for that individual.

Dry fire, dry fire, dry fire!! Just pick a platform and stick with it. With time one can be great with any platform. Most important thing is to pick a platform that fits your hands the best. I've gone from a Walther Q5 polymer to a shadow 2 then the shadow 2 to my 64oz open gun. Now when I pick up the shadow 2 it feels like a polymer gun and a polymer gun just feels silly.

I would highly recommend sending it to patriot defense to have them look it over to see if it's worth sticking any money into it or if tanfoglio will take it in under warranty.

Sorry to hear that. I have the IFG import stock 1 and it is great. I got mine when they first released it so QC could have gotten worse since then. Tanfoglio has always been up and down on QC unfortunately.

This was unfortunately the perfect storm. I did some non scientific testing. Shadow 2 11lb hammer spring Federal match primers. I used a heavy rubber mallet. 1. extended fp and worn out light fp spring. 1.1 Hammer down hitting beaver tail, Nothing. 1.2 hammer cocked Safety off hitting beaver tail, nothing 1.3 hammer down hitting hammer, bingo ignition. 2. Factory fp and factory spring, above testing done in same manner with no ignition. 3. Extended fp factory spring Above testing done in same manner with no ignition Note all above testing was to me equivalent to throwing the gun on a very hard surface not dropping it. I have not done simulated testing for gun dropping on muzzle. Jumping to conclusions on this accident is not smart. Are we all Democrats now? We need the actual facts. Even before this incident I felt we needed a better platform for training new shooters before shooting a match. If you don't feel safe going to a match after this incident than go find a different hobby, we don't need you in the sport. Sorry not sorry. My thoughts and prayers go out to both families.

I love coated bullets. I have had no problems with build up in the last 2 years. Normally I use blue bullets but since the whole delay order issues, I've moved on to a few others. When I did testing for the heavy bullets it was in my middie no popples and my own designed and made comp. My buddys was a middie no popples and a binary eng 3 port comp. Next up is to go the opposite direction and try some 115gr

So, I had the same thoughts a month ago, so I loaded some 147gr and a buddy loaded some 160gr.. yes 160gr.. I was really hoping it would make a difference for the better. I loaded with shooters world Major pistol powder which is about as slow burn as you can get. The heavy loads definitely had a different feel. Recoil impulse was like shooting a steel frame minor gun. The dot had much more rise than my standard 125gr bullet. The other thing you have to keep in mind is oal. My barrels can handle 1.20 oal. Shortest I could load the 147gr was 1.18oal 160gr was 1.19oal That was to have zero to minimal powder compaction. End result for my buddy and myself was we are sticking with the 125gr. Note that all bullets tested are coated.

You can always trim it to 11 coil.

I would highly recommend JEM especially for your first build. My current open blaster is a JEM frame and slide. The best part is JEM charges a very small fee to fit the frame and slide. They also can tri top. Brazos is another great option and will also do fitting but costs a few hundred more then JEM. Are you building a 2011 for limited, open or three gun?

I measured my sp01 safety model and it's .549. It now has a threaded barrel and comp for open, I ordered a sp01 barrel. I believe who sold you that barrel shipped a standard 75b barrel.

Do you have a calipers? If so measure the outer diameter of both barrels and post the sizes. I'll measure my sp01 safety model.

I thought the sp01 and the shadow 1 are identical except for the firing pin block system? Is it possible he ended up with a 75b barrel? The 75b barrel is smaller outer diameter than the sp01.

Are you going to do any poppels? If not the mbx comp works much better than the binary. If so x2 3/16 plus the binary is much better. Not sure about The mbx with popples yet, will be trying that in the future. Nose weight is very different when comparing long titanium vs long stainless if that's a concern. The binary takes more work to fit depending on barrel. .685 tap and die along with a egw align reamer.

I think Carry Optics Should have a sub-forum as its one of the hottest growing divisions and it would help to unclutter things.
