  1. For those of you wanting a 1-32" twist barrel...how many of you have actually tested one vs. a 1-16"? Hint...I have. Also, how many of you have tested the RTS2 for deflection at 25 yards? Again, I have...
  2. Greetings Everyone, I'm about to build another open gun and wanted to ask you a question or three. If you were buying or building a new open gun, what key features would you desire? What caliber would you prefer? What kind of red dot would you run? Thank you.
  3. Glad to see you went with a Kart. I think you will be happy in the long run with the performance.
  4. Loads can have a great impact on accuracy. But more important is how the barrel is fit to the slide and slide stop, how the chamber is cut and how the crown was done on the barrel. If all those things were done to perfection, even a marginal load will shoot good. And an exceptional load will be awesome.
  5. I have personally never seen a factory 9mm with a chamber correctly finish reamed. And the same goes for .45 autos. Most people don't even think about the 9mm having a tapered case and don't think about the fact that most of the reamers available are straight or at an incorrect taper. The reamer I use in the shop is a custom made reamer that is tapered correctly with the proper lead which makes for some great shooting 9mm's. If you need help with this, shoot me a pm and I'll be glad to help further.
  6. It has a 8lb recoil and 20lb main. I've shot 115's, 124's and 125's with no problems.
  7. Thank you sir. I did put a bit of thought into it. Perhaps too much some would say. LOL! But alas, I'm looking forward to building more with the good input I have gotten from members of this forum.
  8. I don't know how many he has left but he had some when I got this one.... Dot size is 2.5moa.
  9. FWIW, the only barrels I use are Kart Precision. To me consistency is the name of the game. Kart has proven to be the best in my experience.
  10. I shoot mixed brass nearly every day and never have a problem. Sounds to me like the issue you are having is 1. extractor tension/fit 2. ejector nose angle 3. chamber isn't finish reamed (I know this for certain unless you have had it done by someone because I've personally reamed a bunch of them for guys). One of these three things can cause random issues. But all three can cause the same issue you are explaining repeatedly.
  11. No racker on this one. Might do one on a different one down the road.
  12. I have two little ones. When one gets sick, like a couple of weeks ago, the rest of us get sick...like now. Fortunately, my wife has been missed by the bullet this time, thank God. I feel your pain.
  13. I've been very happy with RoCo grips. The big ones have a built in magwell but you could easily shape that off as they are made of wood. They have a good palm swell on both sides.
  14. Sure...let me get one for you...
  15. Well, maybe I'll be able to keep you coming back, if for nothing else than my witty sense of humor...LOL!
  16. bkrumme, When I'm testing a gun with my handloads in .45auto I usually run the 185g Zero JHP or LSHP with N310 or CLAYS. Both powders, with my loads (4.3g with JHP and 4.0g with LSHP), will shoot 10 shot groups at 50 yards in under 1.5" with regularity. If you run the JHP with 4.3g of N310 it is not only super soft shooting, but more accurate than most are able to capitalize on at ranges past 25 yards. And since you have 15lbs of the N310 I'd just roll with that as it will work just fine. Besides, that's about 26k rounds of .45.
  17. I've shot a bit of .45auto over the past 15 years. I tried N320. It didn't give me the accuracy I desired. It's been a few years so I don't recall the loads I was trying, suffice it to say, it was so very unmemorable. So I went back to N310 and CLAYS. Both of those shoot wonderful. CLAYS is cheaper than N310 by a wide margin but I like them both.
  18. I decided back in the summer to seriously get into building an open gun. I've built a couple of prototypes for guys who are shooting them very good now. This is the first one I've built just the way I wanted to build it. A buddy of mine suggested the name Black Mamba and it kind of stuck. The gun is in 9mm Major. It features a custom designed comp that is super flat shooting. It is equipped with a Leupold DeltaPoint dot, Everglades Ammo solid aluminum trigger, ICE big hands magwell, Kart 9mm NM barrel, CCP ignition parts, caspian slide and STI frame. It also features the new CCP grip safety. The finish is blasted and polished carbon steel that I blued here at my own shop. Overall, I'm pretty happy with how it came out. It shoots like a dream, is super fast and flatter than any of the other comp designs I've tried. I put a couple of videos up on IG of me and a friend of mine shooting it during the build phase. It's pretty impressive. Hope you all like looking at the pics.
  19. Well, you could remove the rear sight, blast the holes clean with a sandblaster, weld the holes up, machine back flat, and then re-blue the rear sight... Or you could use a sharpie...yeah, that's what I'd do... :-)
  20. Reshoot, Yes sir, I enjoy shooting at four legged critters a bit myself here. Bout the only thing that can keep a man sane in the winter I think. HPJ, well, depends on what I finish in the shop. Couple of open guns, couple of carry guns, a bullseye gun or two probably. Heck, I may even shoot the occasional f-class rifle if time permits.
  21. On caspian frames the 9mm frame cut is shallower than on the .45 auto. Both can be used for 9mm. Typically in 9mm guys like a ramped barrel. The Clark/Para cut is easier to do and usually costs less. That being said, there are tons of Colt 9mm guns out there with non ramped barrels that do just fine. It really depends on what you are wanting to shoot in the gun. If you want to shoot 9mm Major in the gun you are likely going to want a ramped barrel.
  22. This is the company I use. They are in Reading PA. Jamey Maack is the owner and is a great guy to deal with. http://www.indmp.com/
  23. A buddy of mine who is a forum sponsor here has been telling me for a while that I need to sign up so here I am. I look forward to reading and learning from fellow shooters here. It is cold in Nebraska this time of year so I only shoot a little bit. Mostly I just spend time working in my shop.
