Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Well, I attempted to shoot this match. I had to withdraw after three. I somehow got what looks to be a muscle spasm in my lower back and by the end of my third stage I could hardly move. Try again next year.
  2. I am still confused about when to show up. The official start time on Practiscore is 1pm on Friday the 11th. The SUPS website still says there will be three days of shooting. Message sent out today says stage brief at 8am on Sat and Sun, shooting starts at 8:05. So show up at 7am on Sat and Sun then? Is there a sign in? There is a general lack of information about this match.
  3. How many rounds should I bring? I am thinking of 600 rifle and 500 pistol.
  4. I thought about that, but the dad happened to be good friends with the MD, so it was an argument I was going to loose. I have seen this before where a shooter gets a pass due to buddy status. Worst was one shooter who broke the 180 THREE times on one stage, but was allowed to continue. I should have had the shooter unload the magazine so the ammo could be inspected.
  5. Same goes for hand loaded ammunition. Works great during testing and practice, but during competition you will have failures to go into battery, you will find that one cartridge that has a light powder charge, nose diving in the magazine. Can't forget squibs.
  6. First one two weeks ago I got DQ'd. First time ever. It was a muzzle violation at a USPSA match, and it happened before I even gun my Pistol loaded. Start was with pistol empty, in a bucket on top of a barrel. Forgot to stop and lift pistol out. I just grabbed it as I whizzed by and the pistol ended up in my hand pointed slightly backwards. Today was voluntary. I was backup RO'ing at a three gun match while the regular RO was gearing up. The reason for the backup was the squads were five people. Four squads so 20 people, which is good considering the temp at setup was -17. Anyway on one stage there were long range rifle targets. The shooter I was looking after was engaging them when I saw something weird. Didn't register the first time but on his next shot I saw a bright red light go down range and hit a target. Same for the next shot. He had tracers loaded and as this range has a strict no tracer policy so I yelled stop. I tell him he is shooting tracers and he immediately gets mad and gets is my face. Mind you his rifle still isn't cleared. To make things worse his dad gets in my face and starts shouting that they don't have tracers and dares me to go over to his truck and check their ammo. My life is shitty enough and I don't need this so I drop the clipboard and timer, go to my Jeep, toss my gear in the back and drive off, all while this dad is flipping me off and swearing at me. (I did stop at the club house and case all my guns) I could have handled it better, but I just didn't want to deal with it.
  7. I enjoy scoring. Means I don't have to brass and I get to watch other shooters closer and learn the stage. If I am scoring, I make sure I am all loaded up and ready before the first shooter goes. I will also score right up till I am the shooter. This actually settles my nerves. hard part is not screwing up. Last steel match I wasn't paying attention and only got two digits of the the time for one string entered on the tablet. Shooter got to go a sixth time.
  8. I have been reloading off and on for a while. I am restarting 9mm and hopefully this winter .223 and 380. Already do 45ACP.
  9. I found a thread from 2009, and instead of resurrecting it, thought I would start anew. Why a 357 bullet in 9mm, easy. I have ~1500 125gr bullets, but at the moment no gun in 38 or 357. I measured the bullets and they were .356" in diameter. I loaded 20 over 3.5gr of Titegroup and using CCI magnum primers. I have 9000+ of these primers. They shot really well. Accurate and good recoil. Meaning recoil wasn't slow or sharp. I don't have a chronograph due to shooting my last one. I am going to load 400 of these this weekend and see how they do.
  10. I got to this forum due to information about loading 357 bullets in a 9mm. I will post in that dead thread later. I have been shooting for a while. I have done IDPA, ICORE, USPCA, IPSC, Steel, 3 gun, and generic defensive pistol at noco. Haven't done cowboy since I will never find a companion to my second gen Vaquero Bisley in 45 Colt. I am a Glock fan boy, shooting a 21 and 17. Okay, not really a fan boy, it is just every other pistol trigger feels weird to me now.
