  1. Any experience with Torkmags for G17?
  2. Thanks for al the comments...........have decided to leave well enough alone:)
  3. Why? Got a deal on the FDE G17 but prefer basic black. Thinking of trying Rust-Oleum 2X Ultra Cover, supposed to stick to plastic., and yes I know the frame will have to be CLEAN.
  4. Has anyone tried it? Does it work? TIA
  5. Guess I'm not an admirer of abstract art..............$299.00 seems about right to me.:)
  6. I have actually used that technique years ago to re barrel a Python and it worked well. One concern for me is "Will the bbl. be tight enough after I back it out that 12,000th of an inch." Actually, with the Python, I clamped the frame in a big vise, between two pieces of soft pine which were padded with towel material, and used a well padded wrench to remove the bbl. and replace with the shorter bbl. Worked well with no problems.
  7. But for a one time job, the frame wrenches aren't cheap........
  8. I would appreciate suggestions of who to send a 686 to for a perfect repair of an over clocked bbl. Would probably also want the forcing cone checked and corrected if needed. Thanks Jim
  9. I wasn't trying to get a Zero, just shooting groups. Solid sandbags or any firm surface can cause elevation to be different from hand held groups.
  10. Using a solid bench with good firm sandbags......and taking plenty of time on aligning the reticle.
  11. I have an early 629 Classic, 6.5" with a 2x scope. It has taken several deer and has produced 2" groups at 100 yds. with my hand loads.......... As usual, YMMV:)
  12. I gave up bullet casting years ago........could probably find all the "stuff" except for 9 sillymeter molds, which I never had.
  13. RCBS Carbide 3 die set came in today. Sized a couple hundred mixed range cases, no problems but some cases (+P cases) require more effort than others but that's to be expected. Primers and powder on hand, waiting for bullets to arrive.
  14. https://www.gunpartscorp.com/gun-manufacturer/smith-wesson/revolvers-sw/27-3 Part #34 on the drawing.
  15. I use a pair of tweezers to grasp the firing pin retainer pin and just lift it out, watch the firing pin, it might be pushed out of it's channel by the firing pin spring. I suppose I misunderstood your question, seemed you were asking about the firing pin but actually were asking about the hammer...........
  16. Thanks for the replies...... Just ordered a Smith and Alexander aluminum mag well.
  17. Is there a light weight single stack magwell available any where? I looked at the Dawson ICE but not exactly what I need.
  18. Thanks for the helpful comment. One reason I haven't loaded 9 yet is because of the "PITA" features of the case.......
  19. Not asking about the press..........looking for experience with different brands of 9mm dies. And I don't need advice about trucks made by Govt. Motors:)
  20. Factory primers are not all created equal. some brands are much harder than others. Personally, I wouldn't use Small Rifle primers for handgun loads.
  21. Been reloading many years but recently decided to start reloading 9mm on my single stage press (RCBS Rockchucker). Most of my die sets are RCBS with a few Hornady sets. Given a choice, should I go with RCBS or Hornady Custom or something else? Loading for Glock Gen 5 G34. Thanks, Jim
