Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. BTW that TruGlo clone of the Primary Arms AMD was $90 shipped on Jet.com with 30% off coupon. May come back that cheap for Cyber Monday.
  2. The biggest problem with the DPMS GII pattern is the lack of aftermarket barrels, and to some extent handguards. It will accept all AR15 stocks, grips, triggers, latch handles (not full charging handles), optics and mounts. There are 3 or 4 hanguards on the market, including Midwest Industries. But if you want a particular barrel profile, best current option is having an original DPMS GII barrel cut down. Luckily the DPMS barrels have been pretty good for accuracy. That said, it starts from a position of lighter weight than the large-frame options and being smaller, its easier to manipulate.
  3. They also make the TruGlo Trutec 20mm. I just bought one for $105 shipped. Seems dece.
  4. Not seeing anything new, innovative, or compelling here...
  5. My lightweight do-all upper is a 16" lightweight Wylde 1/8 5r midlength, standard upper receiver, lightweight free-float handguard, locking adjustable gas block, w/irons and 1-4x illuminated scope. That's good for a great deal of ranges, incredibly accurate. Pick scope and mount with an eye to weight. My lightweight do-all lower is a standard or Tennessee Arms hybrid lower, A5 buffer system with lightest buffer, B5 Bravo stock, grip of choice. The A5 reduces felt recoil and increases durability and accuracy, the stock is very light but has an excellent cheekweld. My lightweight build changes alot of things, but they are all sacrifices of durability, use, or high cost for reduced weight. Things like the ACE ULW stock, no-FA upper, lightweight BCG, hollow buffer, all-polymer lower, etc.
  6. The ONLY difference between 300BLK and 5.56 is the ammo, and the barrel. Everything else is compatible. The ideal barrel length is 16", just like the ideal barrel length for 5.56 is about 20". Thats the best length to maximize the cartridge without getting ridiculous length. For efficiency, the 300BLK in 10.5" is roughly equivalent to a 16" 5.56 barrel. Users tend to like those two lengths, with 7.7"-9" being popular. You can even go down to 6.5" or 5.5", though then you are dropping to somewhat-better-than pistol caliber carbine levels.
  7. Im looking at the Superlative Arms for my next block. Im having a hard time believing that the "Bleed Off" can function without loss of bullet velocity though. Unless the 'bleed' valve unlocks after the bullet has left the barrel, but I havent seen any confirmation of that.
  8. I never said they should be fired. I, as a consumer, choose not to purchase from companies that hire employees who directly oppose my rights. Troy's handling of their customers concerns also leads me to believe I would not be served there to the standard I prefer. Troy stood by their anti-gun employees, good for them. They make good product, but so do another 100+ AR15 parts companies. I choose to spend my hard-earned money elsewhere instead. Trumpet: I cant say, I stopped looking into the AP railed tubes because their weight (and cost) savings wasnt much more over similar Midwest Industries lightweight railed tubes. The MI stuff is also more narrow, which I like, has options to add rails if I ever decide I want that, and avoids the special challenges of working with carbon fiber. FREX the MLOK 15" weights 13.5oz with barrel nut, and you could drop it lower by milling off much of the top rail if you only need a front BUIS. The railed AP tube is 10.5oz with nut.
  9. Troy hired one of the Ruby Ridge snipers and later an anti-gun ex-police superintendent. When customers complained, they basically told the customers to F-off.
  10. Still have this on Chrome. If its anti's, this wont be the first time ive seen false accusations meant to shut down gun sites. Though, this is kind of a niche site, so i'd be a little surprised this wasnt aimed at something bigger and 'scarier' like ARFCOM instead.
  11. Tim, do you see any benefit to developing the TacCom buffer system for the A5 receiver extension?
  12. Dunno about Texas, but here in Illinois we have the same. Only pistols are covered by our CCL, SBRs are no-no outside the home or range. Alot of us are using AR pistols as trunk guns, maybe with a brace and an angled foregrip. Another option is, if you go with over 26" OAL you can add a VFG, but this changes the category from 'pistol' to 'firearm'. Someithing like the BCM keymod VFG would let you carry it as a pistol, convert to 'firearm' in seconds if necessary. An AR pistol with just tube and brace is as functional as any of the AR PDW style stocks you would be looking at anyway.
  13. THIS article is a year old, but tests the accuracy of a few DPMS GII models. The Hunter model seems most popular, ive seen quite a few reports of accuracy around MOA, usually sub-MOA.
  14. Did you have any problems running a standard-weight carbine buffer, or H1 or H2, or did you go straight to the H3? Did you need the H3 even with the adjustable gas block, or was there some other benefit to running the H3? The rifle-sized GII buffer is an AR10 rifle buffer, it has 6 steel weights and weights 5.4oz (even more than the standard AR15 rifle-length buffer, which is 5 weights plus aluminum spacer) so its kinda like an H2.5 buffer.
  15. The nitrided areas are extremely hard, which causes increased wear on the tooling. Ive seen estimates of 10x as quick to wear, though thats unscientific estimate. That vastly increases the costs for working on a nitrided barrel, as you have to replace or sharpen the tools that much sooner. Some places may do it, but they will charge you appropriately. As mentioned, a better option with nitrides corrosion resistance may be to just buy a 14.5" stainless barrel.
