Yes, SA is a tricky place to own FA's. If one wants to own more than only a few FA's, you need to get yourself certified as a "dedicated hunter" or "dedicated sport shooter" with your clubs (which themselves need to be registered with the Central Firearms Registry (CFR) of the SA Police Service) and to have the club "endorse" the need and purpose for wanting to own the specific FA concerned, before you can proceed to take possession of it. I am certified as both and, despite this (and being an active sport shooter and hunter), each and every FA licence application is closely reviewed by the CFR and can (and does usually) take in the region of 3-6 months (yes, you read it right, MONTHS!) before you can collect your FA from the gunshop (or person) from whom you bought it... this is after you had paid for it (in full) at the original date that you decided to get the FA.
All rather frustrating and not nearly as easy as I understand is the case in the USA!!
