  1. The 627 V-Comp's... erm, comp... is notorious for taking impacts when the mounting screw loosens even a little bit. I've actually hogged out and refinished both of my factory muzzle devices to prevent this. I'm looking at the Revo Gear compensators that RSC sells with the intent of converting my V-Comp into an Open gun. Are these prone to the same issues as the factory compensator? I'm a bit concerned given how long they are.
  2. Ah - mystery solved! I 100% believe that polishing those areas improved trigger feel. I was just surprised to hear it resulted in a lighter pull because, as @MWP said, it's the spring pressures that control 99.9% of the pull weight for a revolver. Glad you got it sorted.
  3. Don't care. What I DO care about is how the OP shaved a pound off of his trigger pull by polishing. I've never significantly lightened a trigger pull by polishing, only smoothed them out, and it's extra perplexing because TKC parts are typically polished when installed.
  4. So, it DOES apply to me, and I still don't see Practiscore as a concern. HR departments, at least the ones at the handful of left-leaning Fortune 40's I've worked for, don't sit there and Google employees on the reg looking for things to fire them over. It's not a good use of anyone's time. Besides, half of my new shooters can't figure out Practiscore, and they're trying to. Even if someone were to see your name in match results, it's a tenuous connection without you providing a smoking gun (actively talking about it at work, putting your real name on social media accounts, etc). If you're still concerned, register with you last initial only. Or hell, make up a last name (the funnier the better, IMHO). Just give the MD a heads up because USPSA will ask "Is person X actually Person Y?" during the upload since your member number will match. If that's still not enough, and you actually have overzealous HR reps trying to hunt down and fire the people they hired for sport, it's probably time for a new company. Or hobby.
  5. Oh. MWP has two of those, actually, and they "clink" when he walks up to a stage.
  6. "Nick, we found a Nick M*****ian on something called 'Practiscore'. Is this you?" "Nope." "...oh. Have a nice day."
  7. I had my DLM and its weird polymer brother in pieces yesterday and now I see what you mean. The sear/ejector pack and trigger each sit in a "housing" that's attached to the frame instead of being directly mated like they are on the metal guns. I looks like all internals are cross-compatible otherwise; they just have to be installed in the housing, and then the housing is installed in the gun. Two exceptions, though. The slide stop is unique on the plastic gun - it's longer, and the notch for the retention spring is further out. I think you could buy one and file the notch in the correct spot if you wanted a Nitrofin or Eemann. The safety is also different, though I think the sear spring notch is in the same spot. The changes are the shank length (longer on the polymer) and the way it mates with the frame. The steel guns have a round hole with notches for the detent, while the plastic gun has a recessed area that matches a protrusion on the safety. Metal frame safety on the left, polymer frame on the right: And here's the difference in the frames: I've been wondering if something like the Gold Team safety would fit the polymer guns; clearly, not out of the box. However, I think it would be pretty easy to make it work: Buy the extended ambi saftey like the DLM has File those two small notches into the frame (not reversible, but also not destructive; the stock safety could be reinstalled without an issue) Shorten the right side of the safety if it sticks out too far, toss the ambi selector Is it worth it? Probably not, but I like stupid projects. Part of me wants to pick up the DA/SA polymer gun in 9mm and tune it up to be a cheater gun for IDPA (swap the trigger, big thumb safety, Henning front sight, Eemann thumbrest, heavy WML, swap on the magwell grip unit from the SAO gun, etc).
  8. Interesting, thanks. I now own both of these guns too so I'm going to do some comparisons. I'm wondering if the distance from the left side of the safety to the groove for the sear spring is the same and they just made the safety's shank longer for the poly guns. I'm also thinking that I could add my own goove to a slide stop if I really wanted a thumbrest... I remember lots of people saying the poly guns are hard to work on, but it seems like they're more or less the same other than some of the takedown pins. Am I missing something?
  9. Yup, heat was the secret ingredient. Hit the bottom of the slide with a small butane torch (for soldering) and it freed up the screw enough to let me take it out.
  10. Yes. Truly, the only way to vanquish the violent beast that is the recoil of 9mm parabellum.
  11. Re-upping because I can answer at least one! The big, Witness Elite Gold Team-style safety comes factory on some iterations of the Witness Limited Pro (which is DA/SA despite being called "Limited"). This makes it legal to swap onto a different Tanfo for use in IDPA's SSP division: "Magazine releases, slide stops, safety levers, de-cocking levers, hammers, and triggers, that are stock on one SSP legal firearm may be used on another SSP legal firearm from the same manufacturer provided they are drop in replacements. Parts in this list must come factory installed on standard production firearms." The gun would still have to be run DA/SA in SSP, but at least I could have an identical grip between my Limited Master in USPSA and Stock II in IDPA.
  12. I think it's an underrated platform. It's not a magical solution (if your fundamentals suck with a S&W, they'll suck with a Rhino (like me)) but it's a viable option for wheelgun games.
  13. Per most of the AC's, all porting and comps are legal in ESP/CO/CCP/BUG-S provided the gun makes weight and fits in the box.
  14. Similar question so I'm tagging it on... Is hidden milling allowed in SSP to make weight? As an example: porting a non-visible part of the slide or milling the frame underneath grips. It's not on the "allowed" or "disallowed" lists. I feel like this is one of those things that's always been done but I haven't been shooting IDPA that long.
  15. I'm doing a little IDPA rules-lawyering. - Was the single-sided, Witness Elite Gold Team extended safety ever offered on a DA/SA model? - Has the Unica flat safety ever come on a factory gun? Thanks!
  16. If it: - Is legal for that division - Makes weight - Fits in the box And you: - Are in the same area as me Then yes.
  17. The only reason I say that is he emailed me directly about a week after our last communication and said "I need to update my answer". AK, ID, MT, WA, WY, CO
  18. **UPDATE** Hot off the press from my AC: "I need to revise my answer. If it fits in the box and makes weight it is good to go. After market is good to use but must not by field removable. Threaded on comp is good. Drilled ports are good." I'm wondering if the AC's/HQ got together and made some decisions. I guess we'll see if we hear from more AC's soon...
  19. I've actually had two sets of custom grips made. Unfortunately, it was back when I thought Big Butts were the way to go (Narrator: "They were not."). I definitely think the problem here is I didn't understand the difference between "full" and "full conversion". I hate how accurate that sounds, lol. I think I'm just consigning myself to cycling grips every few years until the end of time. For sure. My current favorite grips are actually G10 Hogues that I raised the lower finger groove on with my trusty old Dremel. I'm just hesitant to modify wood ones when I can avoid it because it's hard to get them to look nice after.
  20. Ah hah! I bet you're right. I never really understood the difference between "full size" and "full size conversion"; adding extra wood to the bottom of the latter makes a lot of sense.
  21. Question about Hogue grips... I guess I always assumed they were the same profile with features added or removed (big butt, finger grooves, etc). I recently bought a single finger groove grip and loved everything about it other than the finger groove. So, I bought a set without finger grooves, expecting a similar profile. The grips I got were significantly different: Admittedly, I ordered both of these off Amazon, but I'm surprised at how different they are. Did Hogue change the design at some point? Does anyone know if it's possible to get grips exactly like the single finger groove ones I have pictured... but without the finger groove?
