  1. Welcome Damian! I worked a few months last summer & this spring in El Centro & Calexico... holly mother it gets hot there! Cool place though, really nice people.
  2. Welcome from Houston! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. A lot like me, not the purtiest but cheap and reliable!
  4. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=26137 http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=193258&page=2 http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=95485 Easy way to search from google is to input ""Search query"" site:www.brianenos.com/forums" Sometimes the forum search is just a bit cumbersome.
  5. I'm running iron sights with my red dot. I've done so many dry fires picking up the irons, the red dot lolly-popped on the front sight only serves to help decrease the learning curve. Btw, full black sights; no dots, no fibers, nothing.
  6. Take it for what a newbie competition shooter has to say... I've shot glocks for about 6 years for SD practice & classes, just got into competition (3 Gun and USPSA) this year and wanted to try the 19/2011 platform, so I picked up a Rock Island 2011 in .40. I flat out shoot that thing much better! It points perfectly, fits my hand better, and is just more fun to shoot! I still carry a Glock, run them in competition every so often to keep familiar. It's all a matter of personal preference and fit.
  7. Tungsten / stainless guide rod. And I think that is about it to keep within the rules. I will be running CO using a G19 with a SS guide rod, G17 mags w/ TTI base pads, and that is it. This will be or will duplicate my concealed carry rig, main reason for keeping it tame.
  8. Dude, do you want to compete? Do you feel that you are safe with a handgun? Do you have a sturdy belt, holster and at least 2 mag pouches (or one double)? Go watch a match. Walk up to the registration table, tell them what you're there to observe and ask if there is a specific squad that you should follow. Don't worry about performance! Stuff happens and there is no shame is just letting a target go. Heck, it' may save your sanity!
  9. Freestanding air coolers? Do you mean something like this? http://www.homedepot.com/p/Honeywell-10-000-BTU-Portable-Air-Conditioner-with-Remote-Control-in-White-MN10CESWW/204170295 Cause those dudes are air conditioners. It'll pull humidity out of the air without a doubt. Had to replace a few IT closet floors because we forgot to empty to water bin!
  10. Welcome Tayls! I didn't realize SA was that free or I should say, easy to own guns and reloading gear!
  11. USPSA and IDPA may not but Steel Challenge does!
  12. Take a look at coconut water Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. If you want to test the waters, look at the Rock Island 9's. Can get two for the same price of one STI. MBX/STI mags work with the RIA or can go w/ factory mags & extensions for ~$80 for a 23rd magazine. Edit to add - Patrick Kelly has spoken very highly of the SPS Pantera 2011's, he also posted few really good videos on Youtube.
  14. Lucky jack! Great part of the state there, enjoy it! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Welcome Doc! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Brass is ~$0.90/lb in Houston.
  17. Dream - not sure if it was posted, where are you located? I've got a match this weekend in the Houston area that we'd be glad to have you attend. Edit - I see you're about 7 hours from the match, if you're ever over here let me know!
  18. Thank you for your service and welcome!
  19. Sarge - I think it was Missouri, I remember it was posted but is gone now.
  20. BladeTech makes a Drop-Offset for the RIA. Select Rock Island as the Manf. and RIA 5" w/ Rail DS http://shop.blade-tech.com/index.php?cPath=1_23_24&osCsid=ephdgcmtsbj9106o19934p82a5#.V3us-_krJD8 RaceMaster insert for 1911. The rounded trigger guard dictates the type of block; SVI, STI, etc. will not work.
  21. Good bless the folks that gave us this great country and protect us today! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Awesome! Flatland which range? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Woo you stole that loader! Congrats and welcome to the forum.
  24. Kid at the Texas Open had the sleeves. He spoke highly of them, I'm thinking about getting a pair. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
