  1. Thanks guys, a lot of solid info. I’ve built/assembled a few AR’s so I’m pretty familiar and have the tools. As stated by a few, I was thinking buying one ready to go out of the box because I don’t know what I don’t know when it comes to a PCC build.
  2. I’ve been shooting open for awhile and I love it...so it’s certainly staying my main division for the foreseeable future. I just recently sold my Lim guns so I’m debating buying a PCC for a second division to dabble in from time to time. Not gonna lie I’m a long time PCC hater but I’m starting to become a bit PCC curious I shot a friends JP and it was pretty slick. Also, been perusing the MBX website recently and their stuff looks legit too. Curious on advice and/or opinions for a potential first PCC’er. Thanks guys!
  3. Thanks for all the responses guys...My next question...is adding a weighted plug adding any sort of advantage or improvement? The reason I question this is if adding a weighted guide rod is a good would this plug not offset the improvement? Thanks again in advance
  4. I shoot open so I’m not a CO rules expert. Searched and can not find anything that says no. Have a friend that is getting his new CO gun ready and asking if this plug is legal. Weighted glock plug. I feel that the answer is it is not legal but all the searching of the rules I can find say it is. Can I get a second opinion please? Thanks guys!
  5. Ever since I’ve have switched to open I completely forget about people accidentally getting themselves bumped to open
  6. Trijicon HD are the best of all worlds in my options...tritium for night sights....fiberish color around the front sight for day. Hands down the choice for me on all my carry type guns. Added bonus the newer versions have a thinner blade front post that mimics completions sights. I usually find the best deal on these with amazon.
  7. I just recently switched to shielded safety’s also. Helped out a bit for me too but I still need to keep working the draw in dry fire
  8. Gun functioned both before and after the steel grip. The ejection pattern was really weak after the grip install though. The fitting of the grip and lowering the hammer spring was the fix for weak ejection. Lapping and trigger job etc was just tuning up the gun to make it run nice and slick.
  9. Won’t be installing the plastic grips now that my guns are up and running with the steel grips so won’t be able to check that out. Even with fitting the grip it seems they needed some lapping compound attention. Another big thing was changing the hammer spring from 18 pounds down to 14...was really slowing the slide down.
  10. Update. Problems solved. Had Pedro from Ortiz Custom guns go through my open guns. Both were in need of some slide & barrel lapping to smooth them out. Also lowered the main spring weight as it was really heavy. Now both my open guns run super slick and eject brass no issue!
  11. Been shooting open a year now. Recent events have me wondering what the life expectancy of parts are...like the barrel, slide, springs etc. Also wondering when you guys do proactive maintenance and replace things. Currently I have been breaking down the slide for a cleaning and rotation of aftec springs at 2,500 round intervals. Breaking down the entire gun top as listed above, replacing recoil spring and bottom for a cleaning at 5,000 round intervals. Any input/advise is appreciated
  12. I also started with a 6 but switched to the 8. Easier to pick up and is brighter when it’s really sunny out. Tight shots like 25yd partials to me are a little more interesting with a bigger dot as it covers most of the target area but still seems the bigger dot is the way to go for what we do in USPSA. I hear they have a 10 moa to at cmore but havnt seen one in person.
  13. Update. Checked out most of the things listed above. No metal shavings or rust in the mainspring housing. The hammer strut is one size all the way up so there is no binding there. The hammer does not contact the beaver tail. Also got in the Brazos tuned ejectors burnthise suckers are to thick. The hammer can’t drop and the slide can’t go on with those...it appears if I did some filing to skinny up the Brazos ejector that it may work. So next week I’m gonna mess with that. Also gonna take the grip off and see if some filing is needed to losses the fit. Any further input is appreciated. In the mean time if the wx holds up I’m gonna run it as is in a match tomorrow so will see how that goes.
  14. I’ll have to check these things out tomorrow. Wondering what you guys think of this...is there any chance that running it breaks in whatever the cause is....or keep running it and it’s only gonna get worse...thoughts?
  15. So I did this to both the steel and polymer grip guns and they both ran smooth with and without the magazine. That was a good check to perform so learned something new there. Gonna try the Brazos tuned ejector next when it comes in just cuz I ordered it. Talked to Bobby at Ck and he explained some things about steel grips changing things and being a bit finicky. Will eventually get the gun to him so he can check it out. In the mean time it still runs just weaker on ejection now (with an occasional jam) so I’ll keep rolling cuz Open is too much fun and the steel grip makes it that much better! Please keep the input coming as I’m learning as I go with 2011’s.
  16. Frame seems to slide freely to me...compared it to my other gun that has a polymer grip on it. Running an 8lb spring and shooting 9 major. Also loaded up some dummy rounds and cycled them....they eject great and are getting tossed a few yards to the side in a pretty consistent pattern. Aftec extractor appears to be in good order as I did the test to see if it holds a round while I shake the slide around like I saw on some you tube videos.
  17. So I just switched my grip from polymer to the stainless Cheely E2 grip on my CK open gun. I installed the grip myself and it didn’t appear to need any fitting as it went on with ease (it did require a few taps from a small rubber hammer to seat it all the way) I got to shoot it today and I have to say the new grip is awesome! But I did have 2 jams out of 100 with a piece of brass hanging up in the action. I had someone else shoot it so I could look and the brass was just rolling out the right side of the gun rather than being thrown 10 ft like it used too. One buddy recommended a Brazos tuned ejector as he says this fixed his similar problem. So I’ve ordered one and will give that a try. Figured I’d post here and see what all you guys have to say about this as I’m still relatively new to open. Is it possible I screwed something up on the grip install that would effect ejection? Can just a grip change affect ejection? Any thoughts/input is appreciated. Thanks!
  18. Call or email them...They have fixed one for me...replaced some boards to change the dot size on others...super easy to deal with...cmore has top notch customer service
  19. I do like the idea of reading a rule a day though ...We all should do that as well. should
  20. Says should be engaged. Should means a recommended practice or procedure as opposed to a mandatory word like shall or will.
  21. Don’t have to worry about picking up brass every single match....RO a major once a year and I’m in the positive on brass shooting 9major. Knock on would my CK open guns have ran like champs. Open is so much fun!
  22. Shot 8 for awhile...then switched to 6....put the 8 back on and sent my 6’s back off to cmore to be changed into 8’s. The majority of what we do in ol USPSA is to pick up fast close target and the 8 helps better with that...the distance shots are still shot with a fast enough speed I don’t think the finer 6 matters....unless your shooting head shots at 25 yds but how often does that happen opposed to 15 yd or closer targets? When it’s super bright out too the 8 really shines.
