I cut a 6X6 about 2’ long to hit with the hammer. Works better than even concrete floor. Never takes more than three whacks to pull any bullet.

Sarge, you sound like a professional, maybe even a master...whacker!

sorry couldn’t resist. But I too never need more than 3-4 to pull a bullet

Like most people I had issues with 200gr swc in my glock .45’s. I found if I took the OAL as long as would fit in the mag I could get them to run pretty decent.

What was the OAL that worked for you? I rand about 50 through a 30s today and they ran fine. My oal is 1.241

S&B are very overlooked primers. They are top quality.

I save all my S&B Large and small rifle for my precision rifle loads. They give the lowest SD / ES across all brands tested.

If you poke around on the web you will find some articles from high level shooters who tested them against match primers from other makers and not gotten as good of results. So I know I’m not alone.

I’m sure they probably work pretty well in an open pistol as well. I don’t think they are overly hard cupped.

Nickbfishn - Are you still using a Tennessee Arms lower on your daughter gun?  I noticed the picture of your daughters guns looks like one - how did/does it hold up? I have one and it seems to be eating magazines, shaves the top - maybe a bolt issue also.

Yep, still going strong. We both have  taccom bolts and I hadn’t noticed any mag deformation. Her gun has only had sub minor ammo, but I have right at 1k 130+/-PF through mine and so far, so good (knocks on wood).

A friend of mine recently  brought over his PCC to look at because he was having multiple issues. It is an early model PSA Glock lower with a bolt that I don’t recognize  and his mags look like chewed up dog toys. Could be the lower, could be the bolt, or might be both.

On my kids gun the lower was fine and didn’t need anything. On mine, however, I had to take a few thousandths off the top of the ejector, and slightly bend it to even get it to hand cycle. Yours might need some tweaking as well.

So technology has raced forward and new products and builds are in the market.   Anyone care to update the state of the art in lightweight PCC builds ?

Well I liked my kids so much that I did another similar to hers, but didn’t go as extreme. I used a milspec buffer tube, modified MFT stock and my normal hiperfire 24c trigger. It comes in at 4lbs 7ozs.

all the skeletonized stuff looks cool, but there’s no real weight savings as the metal is thicker and heavier to compensate for all the cuts.

you can’t really go lighter on the bolt/buffer unless you plan on bunny fart only loads, otherwise it’ll beat up parts, your shoulder, and the dot will bounce like mad. In fact, my super light build bounces a bit much using 128pf loads and I’m thinking about putting the bolt weight back in to see if that will slow it down enough to reduce some bounce. Otherwise, I think I’ve found the limit (my limit) of lightweight vs double tap accuracy. My 5lb 8oz Gun will put shots about 1.5-2” apart at 8 yards. This super light puts them about 4” or more apart. This means I have to slow down my second shot on anything with distance, otherwise it’s C/D zone City...no bueno.

As for barrels, I think the only way anyone is going to get much lighter is to create a shrouded barrel system with a shorter steel barrel and titanium shroud (i’d be afraid how much that would cost).

I have a Taccom ULW Barrel

    4.0 gr of Titegroup
    124 Gr. Precision Delta HP
    1.140 OAL
    136 PF

    Very soft recoil.

What buffer system and does your bolt still have the weight? I tried this exact load on my PCC setup for steel challenge (no weight in bolt, taccom 3 stage buffer but with the Delrin plunger instead of the steel) and While my PF was also 136, I found the recoil to be rather harsh. However, the dot returned fairly quickly and my double tap groups were pretty good, not great, but good.

  7. I went one step further and built a PCC, a 22lr, and a 223 all virtually identical. They are purpose built to use in a special match that we do once a year and I find it helps to have everything feel the same. But, when i shoot the 22lr the dot doesn’t even wiggle. So for that reason I always shoot it last because I can’t run the trigger as fast on the other 2 guns and get the same hits like I can on the 22.

what I have not done (and not really sure why) is run the 22lr for SCSA matches.

I bought some Berry's 100 gr round nose hollow base bullets to play with. I had previously taken some Atlanta Arms Steel challenge ammo apart and believe that they are using this bullet over 3.9 gr of N310 ai about 1.100" COAL. I started working down a few tenths at a time from that powder charge and ended up at 2.5 gr before my PCC failed to cycle. I'm running a Taccom upper with JP bolt and SCS buffer. To be safe I picked 2.8 gr to run and made a few hundred of them using Fed SPM primers.

Surprisingly, my gun cycles very positively and ejects brass 8' or so at this charge. I rested my gun and ran samples from 3.7 gr down to 2.8 gr for accuracy at 50'. 10 shot groups ranged from about 2 3/4" to a little under an inch with the best accuracy at the 2.8 gr load.

The 2.8 gr load chrono's at 917 fps avg with a std deviation of 22 fps, so PF = 91.7. My PCC weighs about 5 pounds and feels almost like a 22 with these loads.

When I talked with my friend about this he told me that he learned of an even lighter load based on a coated 124 gr bullet which came in at 84 PF. Anyone have experience with loads of this type with a heavier bullet moving at a very low velocity?

I’ve tried dozens of combinations, from light to heavy and The best of the bunch is almost identical to what you’ve landed on...100gr Berrys w/ 2.6g titegroup. I have a recipe for a coated 135 that is also ultra soft, but it’s just to slow. After shooting outer limits and speed option I retired it.

That's not a crimp ring, these are two-diameter bullets. It allows them to be loaded long (same effect as a long throated barrel) for more powder capacity.

I don't see anything in the picture indicating if these are pulled or not; I think the other guys missed your details about the two diameters and think that's a crimp ring.

I've loaded some of these (well, the 124gr version as well as other calibers) a long time ago, but don't remember where I got them. They are a pretty good defense bullet and shoot reasonably well too.

Depends if it's worth the hassle to you, but they might be worth selling, and then using that money to buy a larger quantity of target bullets. In other words, you might be able to turn that 900 into 1500 target bullets for example. But then again it may not be worth your time to do so. Nothing wrong with just loading and shooting these, they are a good bullet.

That’s correct, they’re all identical with the large bottom and narrow top. No scrape marks or anything on the jackets...they’re brand new.

I think I’m going to post them up for sale here and maybe a couple other places to see if I get any bites. If not I might start working up a load. But the part I can’t figure out is where and how to set the crimp...

  10. Got 900 of these rem BJHP 147gr pills in an estate sale for pennies. My googling leads me to believe they’re primarily for self defense ammo, but was wondering if I should load them up for match shooting...or sell them.

The bizarre thing about these bullets is that below the line the diameter is .355, but above the line it is .347. I’ve never messed with anything like this and I’m looking to see if anyone has ever loaded with these? Do they function okay at lower PF (130ish)? Any load data to share?
