  1. Dave does nice work. I think you will be happy with what you get:)
  2. I personally wouldn’t buy a Cabot. I think there are several makers far better. As far as a lefty 1911, Joe Chambers makes one as well. His price will be far more, and his wait time would also be much longer, but I think the gun will be much better. I will say this, 18-24 months is very little when you’re talking about custom 1911’s. Finding a custom smith that is actually taking work is also a challenge. All that said, if you think Cabot looks good and the lefty 1911 appeals to you then do some more reading on Cabot as a company and if go from there.
  3. I’ve never owned, handled, or fired an infinity. It seems like I hear mixed things about them…. That said, I’ve always been curious about them.
  4. Ted is retired…. It’s of my opinion there is no way you can address all the things that need to be addressed on a custom gun in a week… and that’s how long it was taking Ted to build a gun. He was typically pushing out 7+ guns a month. That only means he’s taking short cuts and not addressing everything. When it comes to that style, Burton is what I would be choosing.
  5. I consider those as semi custom guns… everyone has their own definition of what the difference between custom and semi custom so take that as what you like. I think the stuff NH has been doing has surpassed the rest. Wilson these days has really become a glorified production gun.
  6. Chuck is the man! He’s a great pistol smith at the top of the 1911 world imo. I’m fortunate enough to own 5 of his guns…
  7. Any Chuck Rogers owners here? I’ve seen his horizontal scallop treatment a handful of times and have to say it’s pretty cool. Just curious if anyone has any experience with it. I have some of his golfballed 1911’s and really enjoy them!
  8. Caballito Cerrero Chato Reposado 46: Nose: Huge hints of dry white whine and white grapes. Think Pino Grigio meets Tequila Repo! Light Agave, some very minor barrel, unripened fruit/green apple, light smoke, with some light herbal and floral notes. Taste: Crazy mouth feel combined with a velvet smoothness. Huge white and green grape, unripe green fruits (lime, green apple, grape), light lemon, hay, with acidic and mineral notes. Finish: Just about perfect! The nose and flavor on the pallet allow this to hang around! It’s perfectly smooth and lingers in a way that lets the green apple really shines in the end. For 96 proof, it finishes off boldly yet doesn’t burn or overtake the enjoyment like some higher proofed spirits can. Conclusion: Yep! This one f ucks! If you’re a dry white wine fan, you’re in for a treat! It’s unlike anything I’ve had and really shines through with complexity! With that said, this repo knows what it wants to be and where it’s going. As complex as it is, it’s simple and elegant. It flows in a way few spirits I’ve drank do. The agave is present but it’s so mild, which I can really appreciate! Absolute killer bottle!!
  9. I think Lou has made huge strides of late to really get his gats on the right track. Plus his implementation of CNC really allows him to do things he wasn’t able to in the past. It’s been a while since I’ve handle a Biando gun, but I hope to soon. I’m excited to see just how much he’s improved since the last one I handled.
  10. Wilson has really fallen off. I would say they are more of a production custom vs even semi custom. Quality wise, on par with Dan Wesson. NH on the other hand has really upped the level of craftsmanship and quality over the years. Neither are “real customs”, but in the category in which they play, NH is the far superior product in 2023z
  11. Further more, maybe you can explain the following.. Greg goes from “pistol smith of the year” which was a joke, to being asked to step down from the guild, and is then banned from the biggest custom 1911 forum on the web? I’ll wait…
  12. I don’t know Greg Derr personally. He might be a very nice person. That said his business practices and the way he has approached things are not ethical. So yeah… I have nothing against him. He’s free to conduct business how he wants. Pretty cut and dry. And if you follow him and support him, great. It’s your money… you want to send your money to him… go for it.
  13. Yeah, I know Eric… and David (who also worked for Joe).
  14. New barrel bud… find a gunsmith who understand how to fit it properly. That barrel bump is really bad.
  15. AJ is a solid builder too. I don’t have a lot of experience with his stuff directly, however I know he is well respected.
  16. Super simple question…. Is tumbling your loaded rounds in media after you reload a bad thing? I find my ammo is a little sticky from case lube after I finish up a loading session. what’s the best way to clean it up after you’ve loaded in bulk?
  17. Got it! I’ll grab these and roll from there. Appreciate all the input!
  18. Im referring to both, I’m not going to get into the weeds on this though. Look at his work, if you’re happy with the product he puts out, that’s all that really should matter.
  19. I actually recall it not being worth it…. I do remember the roller cam being solid. I’ll double check those!
  20. Solid thought! I’m pretty familiar with how to adjust the press. It’s been a while, but the 650 isn’t an over complicated press!
  21. The ACW are fine, as mentioned, just missing some finishing touches, for the money, they are fine! KGB. Karl is a good dude. I often times think he’s looking to sell guns vs build guns. Overall nice stuff but he’s still learning. I don’t think he’s on Reid’s level yet, but I’ve seen some really nice work he’s out out.
  22. Reid, is fantastic… Kirk GVC, lol. No. That imitation “frag gun” he recently did was an abomination. Im not a fan at all. That said, a lot of people looking to get a custom at a semi custom price seem to like him.
  23. Im not an Alchemy guy… Tons of potential, I just think they get it close on everything “good enough”, they need a carry bevel in the worst way. The under cut at the front strap all seem like there’s no hand work done to clean up the edges and smooth the transitions, they are sharp… they need more dehorning, I’ve seen a bunch that the slide stop was sitting on the link in lock up, grip safeties needed tuning, and thumb safeties were too tightly fit… That said, the trigger work is pretty good, and the guns are accurate. Yost…. Yes, he’s an old world type smith, but his 1911’s are not my thing for the money. Although he and Burton are similar, gimme a Burton 10 times out of 10 over a Yost.
  24. I’ve seen two Chens in person. That said, I have only seen a handful of pictures of Stan’s work. Extremely rare. Got one? pics?!
  25. Yes! Jason is the best out there in terms of a classically styled Colt. He’s such a nice guy… I own several of his 1911’s!
