  1. So I think I see the problem, don't really know what to do about it. When I cycle some dummy rounds through the pistol, after the last round, the slide locks but the slide stop isn't going all the way up into the notch in the slide, and it's being held back by a very small corner of the slide stop. I'm thinking that under firing conditions it's just not enough to grab it and when I put a new mag in, the vibration just knocks it loose.

  2. I'm using a 180gn flat point coated lead bullet loaded to 1.2 in a PT Honcho. The mags have the standard non-competiton lock back MBX follower. To my knowledge the followers aren't any different in the 10 rounders.

I haven't emailed MBX about it yet, but probably will on Monday just to see what they think. It's just wierd that 2 of them work perfectly in every way and the other 4 are a bit all over the place with basically the same dimensions.

  3. First off, I'm pretty new to the 2011 platform but am aware of the magazine weirdness that sometimes occurs. I have 6 brand new mbx 10 round 140mm mags in 40 (I live in a limited 10 state). All of the springs have been broken in.

All of them feed and function fine, which in general is all I really care about but I want to reach some level of consistency between all of them. 2/6 work exactly as expected. The other 4 either don't lock back on empty, closes the slide and chambers a round as soon as I insert a mag, or closes the slide when I drop an empty magazine.

I don't care much about the lockback issue, but the other two things bug me. All of the feed lips at the front measure in the range that mbx says they are supposed to be.

  4. I think it's the brass. I've loaded so many 10s of thousands of 9mm that I under estimated how much old glocks screw this 40 brass up.

Grabbed some once fired cases that have only been fired from my pistol and they go in with little trouble.

  5. I'm a bit befuddled just starting to load for 40 and wanted to get some advice.

I'm loading 180gr coated bullets at .401 at a 1.18 OAL. Normally for crimp I simply take 2x a resized case mouth + the bullet which in my case should be .423 and if I crimp to .423 the rounds don't drop into the barrel and get hung up half way. To get the rounds to drop in, I have to crimp down to .421

There is a ton of effort to run these down to .421, almost as much as the resizing die and it just feels wrong. When I run 9mm, the crimp die bearly has any effort.

Since I have zero experience with 40, is this normal? Is the chamber just too tight to run .401?

I had to have a pro seating die opened up in 38spl . This was to load 148 wadcutters seated flush .

No matter how the die was adjusted it would start crimping . (this was a seating only die)

Yup, I'm having the same experience in addition to what I posted. The round comes out of the seat die crimped to the point where I wouldn't even need to use the crimp die.

  7. Thanks for the replies and the confirmation that others have had similar problems. I asked Redding about it and they offered to open the die up for me if I sent them some belled cases and sample bullets. I thought that was pretty nice of them.

Of course my attention span is about 5 seconds long and I already ordered a Dillon seater, but I'll send it back and see what they can do. I really like the secondary adjustment that you get on these Redding dies.

  8. It's wierd. Even if I just take the die out of the press and put a belled case into the die with my fingers, it contacts the wall. I know that makes it sound like I'm putting a ridiculous bell on the case, and yes, it's a little bigger to accommodate coated, but it's not that big. If I compare the opening and inside diameter with my Dillon 9mm seater die, the 9mm die is noticeably larger than this 40 seater.

  9. I picked up a set of Redding Pro Series dies to start loading 40 (Not the competition seater). I normally use the Dillion dies for everything else, but due to not being able to get them due to shortages, etc. I grabbed these when I found them.

It seems like the diameter of the seating die is abnormally small. I load coated bullets in .401, so I bell the case a good bit more to prevent scraping, but the edge of my bell hits the wall of the die. If I back the die out so it fits, it isn't enough and I start scraping the coating from the bullet.

I know there are handful of folks who use and like these dies, but the seater just seems too small and I'm bewildered.

What version of Tapatalk is being used?

On the Apple Store the latest is 8.9.1 (from last week) but the pro version has not been updated for over a year and is still at 8.5.3

The issue isn't with tapatalk on the client side, its the plug-in on the forum side that makes it work with tapatalk.

However, Tapatalk's client versions are really confusing. It used to be that the paid pro version of the app gave you the add free experience and the "pro" features, but that was changed a while back. Now you pay for Tapatalk "VIP" which is rather attached to your tapatalk account and just use the regular app for the same experience. It is my understanding that the pro app is mostly dead.

  11. I was actually using BBI 180s when I had the issue. Then they changed the mold and I switched to blue (what I have now). The blue are 401.

Blue doesn't make any of their 40 cal bullets in 401, they are all 400. I would definatley try a different coated bullet in 401. I would bet on that before considering powder, etc.

  12. Note that Blue Bullets does offer a special profile of .356 for all of their 9mm bullets. In short of slugging your barrel, *most* guns as a completley general statement will probably be more accurate in .356 given that these are coated. The .356's shoot a good bit more accurately with my barrel after shooting samples with both.

I love blue bullets and think that their coating is superb. I've had no reason to shoot anything else in 9mm.

Its just always bugged me that their default size is .355 and I don't use them in 40 because you can't get a .401

  13. I started with 147s, they shot fine and initially preferred the recoil characteristics. After some time in uspsa, however, I started to prefer a snappier, quicker recoil so I ultimately switched to 124s. Round noses also seem to generally feed much better in 10 round 1911 magazines and had a noticeable reduction in malfunctions.

  14. Oh I know what you mean.  Waiting for a gun to get to the FFL is the worst but then so worth it in the end.
It'll be worth it though, PT is great and they really care about their products and customers.

  15. That makes sense. I’ll get everything I can during the build so I won’t regret not having it done in the future.  Looks like their lead times are around 20 weeks so I’ll have some time to sell off a gun to help offset the expense.   The worst part will be waiting !
Waiting is the worst, I've only been waiting a little over a month for mine and it feels like an eternity lol

  16. The race shop and the 3-gun are the same gun (as far as I know), it's just that the 3-gun is prepackaged with all the barrels, tac-rail, optic, etc.

You could build the same gun via the race shop and leave off some things in the 3-gun package that maybe you didn't want to potentially save a little money.

I think it just matters whether the package offers value to you.

  17. I don't understand why everyone is so butthurt about this shift...

All they are missing now is legit open guns. The P and XL will still serve as great competition guns for 3Gun and USPSA LTD.

I would guess that their Open guns were a financial "liability" due to shadetree gunsmiths creating as many or more issues than they resolved and then expecting STI to fix them. They still have "competition" guns with a different look and can also market them to non-competition shooters too.

    What's the problem...?
First, I think it's price point plain and simple. Edges were the quintessential limited gun and everyone just delt with all the quirks because it was the only big name 2011 at that magical 2k price point. Honestly, the Stacatto XL looks really nice, but not $3500 nice. For that money you can easily buy a semi-custom with a steel grip from a smaller shop with much lower production numbers. It's like buying a $3500 Ruger as an over exaggeration.

Secondly, I think a lot of competition shooters have been majorly soured with the garbage quality control on their pistols in the last few years. Cracked slides, crappy finishing work, guns being shipped with the sights backwards, etc. All of this seems like it has been fixed already with the new line, but until some of that rep is earned back, it's just another turd with some new polish.
