Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Just got mine in yesterday, will start fitting to my sacred defense frame in a week once I get it out of jail.
  2. I'm building my first 2011 and about to order my grip and internals. I want to use the SV trigger in the PT Evo grip, has anyone ran into any major issues? Or have any tips for fitting it?
  3. Just found this thread today. I'm building a gun off a L10 80% frame (I'm in CA and can't buy a completed frame). I sold myself on the evo grip and after reading this I'm wondering if anyone has fit one to an L10 frame? Things I should be looking out for? Thanks!
  4. I'm making the switch from .45 to .40 and trying to not have to load up on a new powder if I can avoid it. I've been using Clay's and clay dot for .45 major for years and plenty of it so.... I know some people are using clays for .40 major with a 180 but it's sort of one of those taboo things... anyone using clay dot in .40 major? How did you work it up, this will be in a 2011 5" gun I'm building right now. thanks!
  5. I've used 700x in .45 and really liked it, experimented in .40 but got terrible results using 165gr extreme. Does it just need a heavier bullet?
  6. I've heard about e3 being a good powder, having some trouble finding any though. Clays is definitely my go to 230 gr .45 powder, never tried clays in .40 through, thought it would be too fast.
  7. I'm new the forums and pretty new to ipsc (just earned my first classification). I shoot .45 in L10 for uspsa and intend on shooting .40 for 3gun. I'm looking for a ideas on a good minor PF load for a 180gr pill, I have 231 and clays on hand. I have used unique and hs6 (full power loads) in the past for .40 but I'm wondering if I can get away with something softer and keep reliability to 100%. Shooting a cz p09 if it helps. Thanks in advance!
  8. Confused by the "full Barney" statement. If I am taking in the correct context, that is pretty bold. As I have stated this is used as 10rd warm-up. Dots are a great tool. but unless you are telling me you are consistently holding tight groups on them past 15yd, How are they relevant to this conversation? Now my turn, to be so bold, who would I lean more towards; SGMs Vickers/ McNamara (great shooters in their own right) who were responsible for training the best military shooters in the world, or a recruiter? I could care less if you shoot the Bulls. Do or Don't, it doesn't change the value of it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I think you may have taken that a bit out of context. I fully agree that shooting the 25m bull is a good training aid and a 10 Rd warm up. Some others were questioning why and saying it was a bit too simple to be effective. I was backing you up, not saying you're wrong. I offered the dot drill as a way to shoot at a simple target and help bring speed and accuracy together. The barney statement, is a reference to "barney style", which is more of a military term, us military shooters use a lot when talking about the core basics of something. No need to come out and attack me, I'm agreeing with you.
  9. I completely agree, range time or dry fire time is essential to progressing forward. I always try to push my limits in practice and see what just how fast I can go without becoming wild. But that speed at the ragged edge is where I try to keep myself while improving the accuracy.
  10. I'm looking into a P09 right now as a 3 gun pistol, the only drawback I see is exactly this. I'm under the impression that the omega trigger system can't be converted to a SAO. I would think that CZC or CGW would have a solution for this if it was as simple as converting a 75b trigger. Kind of a shame since all cz's just scream SAO to me.
  11. Dot drills can be a good way to put the fundamentals and ipsc shooting together, I did terrible my first time, after a while though I got better and could move the dots further out. YMMV but I think it's a great drill to use to "get back to the basics" without going full Barney
  12. Training for proper technique and strength is good. Coming into ipsc shooting out of a bullseye background, I, like many shooters had to learn to KEEP my grip tight after firing the first shot, during target transitions and after reloads, etc. I had a tendency to relax my grip after the first shot and my recoil management would suffer. Best fix I found for it? Our favourite thing, range time!!! This has been a really good thread!
  13. For me I keep it simple, I'm pretty new to the sport so I try not to focus of trying to be like the best. 1. Be safe at all times. 2. Hit all targets 3. Meet new shooters and friends 4. Have as much fun as possible. 5. Don't think about match points or hit factors yet, just focus on shooting an efficient, accurate stage, speed will come with experience.
  14. Glad to hear Sig is releasing a competition oriented pistol that the new guy can get into with a reasonable budget. Anyone have an idea on when it will be on the market? I'm also hearing buzz on the new Canik tp9 sfx which looks like a pretty good budget minded gun.
