  1.
It's interesting.  The new akai magwell looks very similar to the PT magwell as well.  It seems like all the convex bottom magwells are going to require low profile base pads... this would be a considerable additional expense if you were already loaded up on dawson or grams basepads.

    Not an issue in Open.

  2. My reason for building the first Open gun built this way is that it was built for my #3 son, who was 10 at the time and small for his age. The guns are 6” barrel/6” slide guns. They are about 1” shorter than a 5” standard barreled gun & comp. slightly less total weight too. He shot it very well at 3 Masters, 1 Bianchi & numerous State and Area matches before losing interest. It sat for a couple years until #1 son, rustedfrog, started shooting with me(I had built an XDm open gun for me). Very Nearly everyone who has actually shot the gun has really liked it. I love the way it shoots & handles.
Here is the original. I did all the machine work. Will wanted a Red White Blue gun, lol

  3. So through a twist of fate, I'm gonna have the opportunity to buy a brand new STI DVC Open for less than $3k, which WILL come with three mags (2x 140mm and 1x 170mm).  Seems like a pretty sweet deal for a brand new gat, but should I be wary of straight STI guns?  It'll be the 2019 version with the RTS2 and new grip and racker, for reference.

I say do it and do it fast!

  4. I don’t use it as a way to help with muzzle flip, but I love it as a point of reference. I find that my thumb contacts it first and basically guides my support hand into where it should be. Just my two cents[emoji2371]

  5. My two cents: my main motivation for building a full length for my first open gun is that I think it looks good. Maybe as I progress in open I’ll migrate to a different length, but for now I’m thinking a proven style is a good starting point.

  6. Good idea from both perspectives. I've only had videos of someone recording me. Comparing the two seems like it could be a great factor in seeing mistakes and fixing them.

It really is! Sometimes things look great from one angle, but not an other.

  7. I use both my first person go pro and cell phone footage that friends take of me. The cell videos help with movements and body positioning. The go pro helps with what I was seeing at the time. I like comparing the two. Where was I in relation to walls, fault lines, and targets. What was I seeing when I was there. I find it a helpful tool. Plus I enjoy editing videos.

  8. I'm at roughly 1100 rounds with mine. I can't say enough positives about it. So glad I made the switch to sig from glock. Now I'm going to play with loads and spring rates. Just waiting on some parts from springer and then let the testing begin. My $.02 about the grip: after I thinned it out and did the grit and glue texture on it the profile seems slightly narrower than factory. It seems to fit my hand better.
