  1. My next USPSA match will be my first. I haven't done any shooting other than standing still at an indoor firing range (other than a few IDPA matches over 10 years ago) so everything will be new and different. I'm still a bit torn between shooting my Glock 19 in Production out of a Blade-tech holster and just enjoying the 'game' while improving my gun handling skills, etc...or shooting Limited Minor so I can us my AIWB and work all my draws from my CCW gear and still improve all of the same skills while having to accept that I'd be facing an even steeper competition curve due to minor power factor. Either way.....I need a real assessment of my ability to put rounds on target under a variety of stressors. I'm willing to go slowly and improve the gamesmanship over time. But I'll literally be starting from the standpoint of walking and chewing gum at the same time. My indoor range offers an evaluation where an RO observes you and signs off so you can shoot from the draw and rapid fire. I did that yesterday and had no issues with the draw but the rapid fire, as described by the RO, took me a couple of attempts. What's funny is if I previously used the standard he held me to last night I would not even have bothered. He wanted a string of 10 rounds, 2 rounds per second at 7 yards inside the 9 ring on a B-27E target. I've been dry firing a bit, and trying to really focus on seeing the front sight rise and reset during my normal rate of live fire. So i didn't really want to fire faster than I could see the front sight, because that is what is rapid fire to me, at my current skill level. But he wanted 2 per second, uninterrupted for 10 rounds. Mind you, this wasn't timed in any way with a shot timer or even a watch. Just the RO observing. But I digress. First string I shot it how he wanted and rode the recoil a bit up the target. Second string of 10 I shot as fast as I could call my shot and he said that was too slow to be rapid fire. Third string satisfied him, but I'd still not feel comfortable firing at that speed. Anyway, off on a tangent here..... My goals are to safely improve my skills by continually improving my ability to be rounds on target under a variety of conditions at faster pace than previously possible.
  2. Welcome. I spent my high school years in Prince William County so I guess we qualify as neighbors. All the best, and good shooting.
  3. I just installed them yesterday on a Glock 19. I don't have enough time on the trigger to tell you anything definitive yet. The only sights I can compare them to are the factory Glock sights I've had for the past several months. I imagine an adjustment period is normal when transitioning from such a wide rear notch, by comparison, to a much narrower window on the Proctor sights. There were times when I was really hunting to find any light between the front blade and the rear notch...but a lot of that could be my relative inexperience in general.
  4. I just picked up the Kindle version of Dry-Fire Training: For the Practical Pistol Shooter from Amazon. Will be a little time before I can get to my first local match so I better start building the discipline and basics beforehand.
  5. Great resource. Thanks! If I hadn't read this first, my hypothetical stipple job would have made me illegal.
  6. Ahhhhh, priorities, priorities........so much to look forward to. Father, husband, food, school...shooting....is that the right order? Thanks for the welcome everyone.
  7. Thanks, Pizzim. The club I'll probably visit is in Sunrise, Fl. A bit of a haul because of South Fl traffic, but if I can settle into a decent schedule it should work out ok. I've installed a Double Diamond 3.5lb connector and titanium safety plunger on the G19. Right now it has the factory sights, but I do have a set of Frank Proctor's Y-Notch sights which are a solid black rear and fiber optic front. Just need to get those swapped out. No plans for any other modifications at this time. I need more time working on my skills before deciding that the actual gun needs any changes. I have a Bravo Concealment BCA holster with loops for both OWB and IWB. I also have a Stealth Gear appendix carry holster on the way.
  8. Hi Everyone and Happy New Year. I've just returned to Miami, Fl after a decade of living in Costa Rica. My budget is fairly limited while I get resettled so the Glock 19 will serve double duty as my EDC and match gun. Before I moved to CR I shot a few IDPA events but after watching a handful of videos I'd like to give USPSA a shot. Looking at this primarily as an opportunity to work on gun handling skills and accuracy in a dynamic environment. Basically, all the stuff I can't work on at the static firing line of my indoor range. Due to budget and my current interests, I'll probably try to keep holsters limited to my EDC, so I can train on what I really carry while at the same time enjoy solving the course of fire thrown at me. All the best. Chris
