USPSA Announces Rules Adjustment For Holster/Mag Pouch Positions
TrackCage replied to BritinUSA's topic in USPSA/IPSC Rules
I had not considered flashlights for the illumination advantage (versus just weight out front). This will be interesting... Worth buying a new holster, probably not. I, for one, will likely put a mag pouch out front just to see if I like it. Maybe it sticks, maybe not. Aside from stand and shoot classifiers, I don’t think it matters. In my area, mags on barrel stages are somewhat frequent, so the magnet is appealing, but not really a game changer. Re-reading my post, I think the sentiment is clear. These rule changes are a distraction and are not going to change who does well at matches. -
Looking for a .45ACP pistol for Limited
TrackCage replied to Igloodude's topic in "Other" & Pistol Comparisons
You don't need an aftermarket barrel to shoot coated in an OEM Glock barrel. I have probably 50k coated rounds through a barrel or two, without any issues. I've used ACME, Blue, BBI... -
Close targets, I might not even be looking through the window for a dot. It might be all index (I'm talking really close her). Easy-ish targets, I'm not really seeing a dot, more of a streak of red. The only time I see a crisp, completely settled dot is far partials or similar. For context, I'm an M in CO. If I were waiting for a laser beam to settle on a target, it would be significantly longer/slower than what I'm currently doing.
-
If you are staring at a target long enough to see a laser mark on it, you're doing it wrong.

I think that's why they stopped offering subscriptions to new customers temporarily. They claim that subscriber orders are filled more quickly than standard orders, so new customers were likely using this as a method to jump the line. BUT, I too am worried about my subscription. Next case should ship end of Sept, so if there is a two month lag that would put me almost end of year...

Who cares what it's called?

A 22LR division would be kinda cool for kids except for the obvious steel knock-down issue and even calling hits in heavily pasted targets. A nice pipe dream, though. Back on topic, I shoot CO and I like it the way it is. I don't want SA guns in the division because soon everyone would have 2011s. I think some of the new rules like weight are silly, but if someone wants to chase 59oz instead of practicing, that's fine. I was not very interested in the division when it was 10rd, but would have been just as happy if it were factory capacity vs 140mm. I don't really like dealing with basepads and frequently use standard mags if my stage plan allows for it. The big sticks only come out as necessary.

Mr. Bullet Feeder (mini) where have you been all my life ??
TrackCage replied to ysrracer's topic in General Reloading
Wait until you discover the (real) Mr. Bullet Feeder -
Never ordered from BBI but I'm unclear how what you described is their fault? I am a Blue subscriber, and it took 2 weeks from charge to deliver. This was just a few weeks ago.

I mess around a couple times a year back in Prod and can place well, comparably. I was just under M class in Prod before I switched to CO (where I did make M). BUT, I can still see the sights.
-
I switched form Prod to CO about a year and a couple months ago. I quickly made M in CO. Since then, I've shot only two matches back in Prod and had fun but no desire to go back. The way you can attack a stage is so much different in CO. Im my area, we are seeing quite the swing from Prod to CO, with CO becoming the healthiest division. P.S., I fall into the young and mobile crowd.

I used to shoot a lot of 147s and preferred the feel, but the bottom line was that the timer couldn't tell, and at full speed, I couldn't really either. So back to 125s I went as they were more cost efficient.
-
I load the morning of, before going to the range. I have enough mags to only have to top off a couple in order to get through the entire match. One less thing to think about
-
The only gen 5 glock 34 they make is an MOS.
-
I run a brownells slide. I'd much prefer the milled slide versus a plate. I wouldn't want the dot any higher than it has to be. Good enough to get me into M class...
-
I run TTI when I need to get 23 If I don't need more than 18-20 before I reload, then I use the 21 rd Magpuls. Cheap and plentiful.

Why not allow a weapon mounted light in production/carry optics?
TrackCage replied to Blaize's topic in USPSA/IPSC Shooting
We had a club local to us that was mostly timmies who didn't know the rules, signed up for whatever (Production Major, etc.) and seemed like they would shoot whatever was put in front of them. They didn't know USPSA rules and despite being told, some didn't seem to want to listen. Fast forward to when there was new management and they cleaned it up, and all of the actual timmies fled. The core group that stayed ran matches as they should have all along. Nothing wrong with timmies that want to play the game. But timmies who just want to timmy are dangerous. -
I run a thug plug on a carry optics glock. I like it compared to the plastic grip plug I was using before. I also bought a couple ounces of tungsten putty on amazon to shove in the grip above the plug.

Non-competition gun, I like to have ~5. My CO/Prod gun, I have ~30 mags. I usually bring 15 to the match so that I can shoot all day and never reload between stages. I have the mag sleeves so it is obvious to me if I've lost one.

I have a 650 w case and bullet feeders for 9mm, and a 550 for everything else. I loaded exclusively on a 550 for many years and find it to be a more enjoyable reloading experience. Yes, more manual but also more therapeutic. Reloading on the 650 is purely done due to volume requirements and in same ways, has taken the hobby out of reloading for me. 650 is also much quirkier than the 550, which becomes annoying when it breaks your rhythm. If I was shooting 600 rds/month and planned to start loading a bunch of other calibers, I'd get a 550. If it's 600 rds/month but soon to be 1k+ and only a caliber or two, the 650/750 starts to make more sense.

CO with 140s is fun. I had no interest until they changed the mag rules. Rules are a slippery slope and given the recent changes, it would not surprise me one bit to see 2011s in CO eventually (soon).

What happens to competitors after 5 years?
TrackCage replied to -JCN-'s topic in USPSA/IPSC Shooting
Generally people plateau and aren't able/willing to put in the effort to continue to progress. Or their interests change, life changes, new work schedule, new significant other. I've only been at this four years and have already seen an alarming decay. The matches keep filling up with new blood, so maybe the .org doesn't see it as a problem? -
Did not realize Bruce was a forum dealer, will be reaching out!

Sorry since this is a hair off topic, but what version of the TRP do you have? I ask because the full-rail version is not SS legal. Back on-topic, I have one of the Midway range bags that are always on sale. Good bag for the money, although mine is kind of an ugly digital camo version.
