Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I tried 5.0 grs Trail Boss out of a Sig 220 and a Colt Gold Cup. It is a compressed load but shoots just fine. Didn't chrono it. Sure like the way it shoots. Mike in OKC
  2. I started with 5.0 VV320, 200 gr Rainier 200SWC with Win case and Federal primers. I just started shooting this load this last week so no long term results yet. So far shoots very good , no smoke , no pressure and very, very accurate. I was suprised at the low recoil of this load. VV says this should be around 900fps or so. Works good for me. Mike in OKC
  3. I just started loading 40 S&W and did not know wher to start. I ASKED this Forum about VV320 And got a lot of positive feed back. Started with 5.0 grs under a 165 gr Zero, then went to a Win 180 gr. Both work very well. No pressure no smoke. No recoil to speak of. This past week I tried 5.0 grs under a 200 gr Rainier 200 SWC in 45 acp that works well enough that I think I have 4 lbs of AA#5 I will be giving away. The vv320 is very, very clean. I know now way evey body reccommends this powder. ITS GOOD. I've been reloading for about 50 years and I'm always trying to find something that work better. For the time being I will be using VV powders along with the Western Ramshot powders. \Mike in OKC
  4. Well I've loaded and fired several hundred rounds of the VV 320 at 5 grs behind a 180 gr bullet at 1.15 oal. NO PRESSURE SIGNS at all. In fact from what I see I could go up another couple of tenths if I wanted to. This is pretty clean powder my once fired cases still look once fired when they are twice fired. Thats nice. This powder is a little smoker than the Western True Blue that I started with but not bad at all. Thanks guys for all of the help. Mike in OKC
  5. I may be old and hardheaded, but I figured out why everbody is using fast powders and heavy bullets in 40 S&W. NO RECOIL. Picked up some VV320 and 180 gr Bullets. Man what a sweet shooting combo. No flash, No smoke, No recoil. Now I think I'll go load a couple thousand. Thanks for all the help guys Mike in OKC
  6. I just wanted to show you guys what some red looks like. Two 20 year old Lee's. Always thought I might buy a Dillon when I wore these out. The one on the right is my 9mm-40 press about 100K rounds loaded. The 45 press only has 50K on it. There not worn out yet. The bench is a Shure Auto bench that I've had for 30 years. Still good as new. I promis I'll buy a Dillon when I wear these out. Mike in OKC
  7. Carlos, Just so happens thats the gun I'm using except mine is called Tactial Sport. Little newer model. Damn fine shooting pistol. What spring setup are you using? Mike
  8. Well, I checked my pistol today and about the longest that I can get in the mags is 1.175 so I guess thats what I will have to go with. Found a good price on 320 so I think I'll pick up 4lbs. If it doesn't work out like I want it to I'm shure it will be good in 45. Has anybody tried the Ramshoot Competition?? Seem to be about the same speed as 320. Like I said earlier I've been loading for about 50 years, but I was in business for the last 15 years untill retirement last year. Picked up a pistol for the first time in a long, long time this past April. Man am I hooked again. Broke out the old reloading presses, picked up a 40 cal gun and away I go. I guess I had forgotten how much fun the shooting sport was. Man I'm glad I retired. I get to shoot almost every day, Go in when the range opens, nobody there so I can shoot till I'm to pooped to pop. I have found in a lot of these Forums, This one, Sig Forum, CZ Forum, you can get a lot of good info. A lot of the others border on BS. Mike in OKC
  9. I think you guys are nuts to say True Blue is Dirty. I find it to be one of the cleanest powder I've ever used. I have a CZ75 TS that I clean every once in a while just because I feel sorry for the poor thing. Mike in OKC
  10. Thanks for the info. I'll have to check to see if my gun can do 1.20. If so I might scare up a Lb of 320 and give it a try. In the meantime I will study as hard as I can. If anybody else has any input please put it out here. Thanks Mike in OKC
  11. Folks I've been reloading about 50 years, but have not loaded 40 S&W untill a month or two ago. I have looked all over the web and learned a lot. My big question is why do most of the people on this forum use fast powders ,VV320, TG, Clays, etc and heavy bullets,180-200 gr. Is there some physics behind this. So far I'ved used AA#5 and Ramshot True Blue. Please looking for some info. Thanks Mike in OKC
  12. What load are you using with the Ramshot comp. powder? Thanks Mike in okc
  13. Well guys I got a chance to try the Trail boss in 45 ACP. I used 5.0 grs and 200 swc gr Rainier bullet. Not very powerful but damn its accurate. I think I've found the plinking load of a lifetime. 5.0 grs is compressed a little. No way in hell can you over charge a case. Wish I had a chorno. I would quess its 750-800 or there abouts Mike In OKC
