Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. great input. I appreciate the help tremendously.
  2. outstanding! Thank you so much. ...big help.
  3. that's funny. I have to admit though, that I really like the "paddles" on my HK45. I appreciate you input though.
  4. Greetings everyone. I may be looking for a new IDPA firearm. Notes: * I'm new to IDPA...practicing for my qualifier now. I've shot casual, outlaw matches. * I shoot Steel Challenge with a CZ 75 TS * My bedside gun is an HK45. * I've been shooting (and REALLY enjoying) lately my new Sig Legion P226. * I shot IPSC back in the 1980's with a 1911. That is the platform I'm most comfortable with to this today and at some point, I'll shoot it in ESP. I can commit to the P226 for IDPA, but....BUT, I shot a friends P320 and like it quite a bit....the consistent trigger pull. I've dry fired the VP9, but no live fire. Any input on the VP9 vs. the P320? Thanks in advance.
  5. I have just recently worked through this issue. I had been old-school until recently: i.e. Weaver stance, right thumb riding the safety on a 1911. Now I'm shooting modern stance with thumbs forward. On my HK and G34 my thumb was hitting the extended slide releases. I now move my right thumb over a bit (to the left), where it now rides on the meat to the left of my left-hand thumb. There is an excellent vid on YouTube by a Sig instructor on this. i'm sorry I don't have the link. In 2,000 rounds, this has become very comfortable and is already part of my muscle-memory.
  6. Thank you all for taking the time to reply. This is a very helpful and friendly site. That is hard to find in gun forums. I truly appreciate it.
  7. Same here. I did not shoot Glocks prior to the Gen 4 for this reason. I use the medium backstrap. Tried the large, but did not shoot as well with it.Sent from my SM-N920P using Tapatalk thanks for the feedback. I'm using the medium as well, even though I have long fingers.
  8. Great tip; thank you. Yes, I just found a video on YouTube from an instructor. He said exactly what you did and said the problem is common with HK's, Sigs and Glock with the extended lock/release. In his demo, he mentioned, "just let the thumbs come along for the ride". He also said to move the strong thumb over and away from the slide. I'll give this a shot.
  9. it is my strong hand thumb that is hitting the lever though. If I go back to my 1980's, weak thumb over the strong thumb, revolver style, the fixes the problem. Since my whole grip and stance is in transition, since I'm trying to learn the new-school, I'm attempting to keep my thumbs forward and left wrist locked down.
  10. Good morning all- I'm an old-school shooter. I'm transitioning from a Weaver stance, complete with my strong-hand thumb curled down, and the weak-hand thumb over it. So....now I'm square to the target and "thumbs-forward". My weak-hand wrist is locked down as it should be. With both my G34 and HK45, my thumbs (they're a bit long), hit/ride the slide lock/release, preventing the slide from staying back after the last round. Is there a fix for this other than changing the slide lever? Am I doing something wrong? Do I just live with it? Thanks in advance.
  11. thanks for responding gentlemen. I shot a casual, steel match yesterday. I do indeed like the beaver tail. I've never had bite from my guns, inspite of choking up as high as possible. The beaver tail does seem to aid (a bit) in recoil control though. Since I'm used to them from 1911's, I'll keep it on.
  12. Good morning. I'm just curious as to the question. I've been shooting 1911's for decades so I've grown accustomed to them. I just put the beaver tail back strap on my 34 last night. I'll shoot her today.
  13. thank you my friend. Thanks for the support and for stopping by my thread. I'll post here after the event to give a brief update.
