  1. I have shot a 5 inch 627 in SC and it works just fine. In fact .. that is the only gun I have qualified for in SC (iron sight revolver).

Having 5 moon clip holders on the font of my belt makes the whole setup work just fine for SC.

I have been shooting short colts but as someone mentioned ... reloading isn't going to happen so using regular 38s in "loose" clips would be just fine (then you could reload the clips by hand during a match if you wanted).

I am a cowboy shooter too and "do" have some low pf 38s already loaded so I might just try that next time (instead of using the "good stuff/match ammo" for SC).

  2. "Award money is only available to ICORE members" ... What money?? Looks like $120 per head?? (is everyone getting a box of primers??) ...

Must have missed the "info" flyer somewhere .. will go back and look ...🙄

Edit: Never mind ... I found the $575 of ICORE money in section 7.3 of their "Policies and Procedures" ... (but of course that doesn't apply now since it is just a club match ... I guess). ($100 ea for each of the 4 Divisions and $25 ea for each of the 7 Special Recognition Categories).

I wonder if their stage review stamps out triple taps?!??

  3. IMHO .. I think these Columbia PFG Polo Shirts are outstanding for shooting. They are light ... hang nicely and are vented in the back.

With the vent ... when you move your arms there is no tension/resistance ..

They come in long or short sleeve but all mine are short sleeve. I have used separate uv sun sleeves with the shirt at times (mix colors).

In the winter I have used them with a compression thermal undershirt and stayed plenty warm ... no bulk ... no movement tightness/resistance.

Different colors are different prices ... there is always a color on sale.

  4. Hopefully ... your qualified/experienced gunsmith has adjusted the trigger bar so that it fully lifts the striker block out of the way before releasing the striker.

If the block is not fully "out of the way" it may bounce off the striker ... causing occasional light strikes.

Sometimes ... in an effort to reduce trigger travel ... people bend out the tail of the bar to start sear movement earlier. That is great but if that "bump" on the top of the bar does not travel rearward far enough it will not lift the block high enough to fully clear the striker.

If you remove the striker block you can examine it ... If it is all beat up then you know the striker is hitting it.

There should be other threads discussing this issue ... here is one ...

I put a big butt on my 627 because all the cool kids have them. But how the heck do you grip that thing with two hands?

That big lump is right where my little finger goes.

    Thoughts?

I'm with you ... I purchased one too  ($75-$80 for a 627 IIRC) ... (because of the cool factor) and after about a week gave it away to a new revolver shooter.

Told them it didn't work for me ... and to pass it on to another shooter if it didn't work for them.

  6. I have the two factory magazines ... an MBX and two SPS mags (w/ Grams baseplates). I originally had Grams springs and followers in the SPS bodies but got some inertia feed near the end of the magazine ... (Switching to the real SPS followers/springs cleared that all up).

They all work great ... the factory are good w/ you start a stage w/ a low count - mandatory reload routine ... or for a rear pouch safety mag. You ("I") don't really need three 19/20 round mags to shoot a stage. I'm sure I could get by w/ just one MBX (or SPS) and one factory.

Anyhow ... you can still buy the MBX and you can still buy the SPS (bodies/parts/whatever). I also picked up the "better" (IMHO) magwell on ebay (got two so just in case ... paid $40 each).

I ordered the SPS parts right from Spain ... they added about $2.50 in transaction fee to my credit card because it was a foreign transaction.

edit: found some factory mags ...

Do you see any evidence that mr Valentine is making any significant effort to make people aware of his candidacy?

Yes ... he did the "Practical Shooting after Dark" interview. I'm glad I watched that. A lot of interesting things were discussed (w/o ... regard to any bearing on the election).

IMHO it was a opportunity to briefly examine the demeanor/attitude of the candidate as well.

I have to say ... the USPSA elections are the only ones where I have received an email announcing an election w/o any mention of the candidates or issues to be decided by the election (and no link to discover that information).

  8. The Valentine interview ("Practical Shooting after Dark - Episode 50") brings out some great points ... such as rule changes on the fly / member benefits ... etc ... bunch of stuff.

It was very interesting to watch just to see what some of these "issues?" were really about. Makes you think about "what you think" and if they are issues or not.

Easy to dust off but becomes kinda mandatory when other channels of information are suppressed or non-existent.

    3.  On Ben's podcast, you can hear an interview with Mike Valentine.

+1 - Struggling to find candidate info ... I stumbled on this interview (on their "Practical Shooting after Dark" channel) and I am glad I did.

I didn't think it was going to be too much  ... but ... it wasn't long into the interview I started to do the "oh yeah ... now that you mention it" thing ... 🙄

Nice drill. Can I start at point blank range? I'll have to try this one.

Yeah .. start at 3yds ... them move out to 5 ... and so on ...

IIRC ... in one of his class reviews I read ... (Stoeger) ... he started everyone out at 5yds.

But seriously, if .40 died and we all had to buy brass from Starline to keep shooting our .40 Limited Major pistols, at that point I think a change would be in order.

    > snip <

If .40 becomes as rare as 38 super, what changes would you want to see?

Just wanted to note ... If you actually had to buy your brass (new) from Starline ... they sell 38 super and 38 super comp both for less than they sell 40 s&w ...

AND .. they sell 38 special (a competition biggie ... not!!) for less than all of the above??!?

I don't even pick up my 40 brass anymore ... and feel bad when someone does ... and then chases me down to make sure I get it (of course ... when that happens ... I take it w/ a smile and make sure they know I appreciate it).

Knowing what I know now ... if I were just starting ... I would buy 9mm ...mail order ... in bulk ... shoot it and let it lie (seems to be getting very inexpensive).

Go shoot ... go home and watch TV .. no reloading ... no picking up brass. 😃

I would be leary of that.  when I was membership dir we used a different processor.  I was just making sure that someone did not hack the processor or link info we used before.

Well ... if I have been hacked ... and I don't receive the ("gold ICORE") pin ... (or the free "taco bell on match day" coupon book) they promised ... in the mail ... in <60 days ... I will just complain to my credit card company and they will put 25 big ones back into my account!! 😬
