Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Rick, You weren't in Ripon on Saturday were you? It was pretty cool, because out of around 32 people there were 6-8 new to IDPA including myself and my brother. Excellent weather, and a great match, I really enjoyed it. Thanks again for encouraging me to shoot and not just watch. I will be leaving next week for Greenville, SC and I am going to check into IDPA down there. Thanks again, Jp
  2. Thanks to all! The only reason I asked if they adjusted the scores to your classification is that the club President scored a 109.23 and my brother who hasn't shot IDPA before and hasn't shot handguns for a long time scored 113. Maybe the club president was just having one of those days. Anyway, thanks for the answers. One more question. If you have a failure to neutralize and don't even have any bullets thru the down 3 zone, do you get 5 point off for the FTN + 2x5 points off for each miss? Thanks Jp
  3. I just shot my first IDPA match in Ripon, WI on Saturday. It was a blast!!! However I do have a few questions... 1- I have an XD40 and they put me in the ESP Division. Was it the caliber or the action of the XD that places it there? 2- If you shoot in a different classification than someone else, will there scores be figured out the same way as yours or do they adjust something somehow? (For example say that a Novice shot a 110 and a Sharpshooter also shot a 110 on the same match. Does this mean that they both shot equal or does it mean that the sharpshooter since being in a higher classification had his score calculated differently than the Novice.) If so than what is the formula - I didn't find anything in the rule book. 3- If I shoot a XD40 and another contestant shoots a XD9 and we're both in the same classification then will he get his score adjusted because he shoots a lower claiber? (I thought I read this somewhere, but I can't remember for sure.) Thanks, Jp
  4. Thanks Everyone!!! Just shot my first match in Ripon on Saturday. It was a blast!!! I shot my XD40 in ESP. I am planning on joining and shooting down in Greenville, SC during weekends at college. On the first stage I got a procedural penalty because instead of firing in tactical sequence I double-tapped the first target. Then on stage 5 I accidently went back to my old grip and my right thumb caught my slide release lever and locked the slide on my XD when I was shooting the stage. I recovered really quick and I don't think I lost more than a second or two. Other than that things went pretty well considering it was my first time. My brother shot his XD as well and scored better - that's what older brothers are for right? Well, I'm hooked now! Jp
  5. Thanks - I am from Wisconsin and I just read Rick's reply under a different thread: Thanks again Jp
  6. I just finished reading the entire rule book - one question though. What is required in terms of concealment as far as what you wear for a shirt or jacket? Is the gun required to be concealed at all times and drawn from concealment? Thanks! P.S. My brother and I are both planning to shoot on Sat with our XD40's.
  7. I just ordered one from Blade Tech last night - they say it should get to me on Thursday or Friday. Hopefully it will - my brother and I both have XD40s and are planning on shooting in Ripon for the first time on Saturday. I've read the whole rule book - one question though. What is required in terms of concealment as far as what you wear for a shirt or jacket? Is the gun required to be concealed at all times and drawn from concealment? Thanks!
  8. Just got Brian's Book on Saturday--Started reading it and really enjoying it and soaking it all in!
  9. Things are real busy right now with work and getting ready for college, but I am trying to get all my equipment in time to shoot in Ripon on Sat. Thanks for the advice Jp
  10. Thanks! I will check into these and order one tonight.
  11. I would like to shoot an IDPA Match this Sat. -- any suggestions on a good mag pouch for the XD? I need some real soon!!! Thanks
  12. Thanks Rick, I am going to either watch or shoot a match real soon, and I downloaded the complete rule book and I have been reading through that. Jp
  13. Thanks Rick, Yes, as noted in my last post I did check out CCI's website and the velocities listed there and that's when I realized that Sportsmansguide had their numbers off on the 180gr. I understand that you will get varying velocities out of different guns/barrels etc., but sites like Sportsmansguide don't do their own tests -- they just copy the info from the ammo manufactures website -- the 155gr read 1175 fps on CCI's site and Sportsmansguide got that correct as well as the 165gr @ 1100 fps, but when Sportsmansguide they went to copy the 180gr they made a mistake. I have to use a Chrony with my gun sometime just for fun to see how it shoots out of it. Jp P.S. When I join IDPA I understand I'll need a third magazine for my XD40 -- is there a limit to how many rounds? I currently have 10rnd clips and would like to get a 12rnd. Thanks!
  14. . . . I found the website and velocities: sportsmansguide.com Blazer 180gr @ 1175 fps Wolf 180gr @ 990 fps According to the research that Rick did (and I just checked Blazer's website) it looks like Sportsmansguide must have their numbers off a little. Jp
