  1. Google "bootleg case lube". It's 4:1, 4 parts isopropyl alcohol 99% and 1 part lanolin oil. About $32 to make a gallon of it. Make sure you use 99% isopropyl alcohol so the lanolin stays in solution and evaporates quickly. You can get it at the pharmacy but it's usually kept behind the counter so ask the pharmacist. $3 spray bottle and you're good to go. As sig2009 noted HEET also works since it's isopropyl alcohol but it's a little more expensive. Edit: Whoops. Didn't see that this recipe was already posted. BTW I found 99% isopropyl alcohol at Safeway.
  2. I bought a used open gun and the comp was filled with lead. Im shocked that a bullet could traverse the opening without altering the bullets trajectory or causing baffle damage. No amount of scrubbing or solvent would even make a dent. On the internet I found some posts about a 50/50 mix of vinegar and peroxide. This should be used with caution as this solution can remove bluing and if there are areas of initial rust this can make it worse. Most importantly the black sludge that comes off of you comp is highly toxic lead acetate which is readily absorbed through the skin and gloves should be worn and the sludge should b properly disposed of. I soaked the comp end of the gun and every 15 minutes used a Qtip to remove the oxidized lead. It took four hours but I got every spec of lead out. My hard chrome finish was not harmed. Hope this helps.
  3. I just bought one off eBay for $200. Just need to add a cheap c-more knock off. Agree TM it Tokyo Marui is the way to go.

    Which one?

Full (and perky) jabenero or ghost peppers
  5. I voted maybe in the poll but after reading this thread I'm actually very interested in it. I'm shooting open with an STI but I wouldn't mind shooting my Glock 17L with an optic. If USPSA is listening please make the final rules broad enough to include non-polymer guns. We would love to shoot CZ and tanfoglio in something other than just open.
  6. +1, I'd like to know as well.
  7. Agree with the 38 super. If you don't care about making major, armscor, federal, winchester and Remington all make 38 super that you can find on sgammo.com, cheaperthandirt, and other websites. If you want to make major GECO makes major and you can find it for around 35 cents/round. You don't have to reload but it is fun.
  8. My process exactly. Are you lubing your pistol brass also?
  9. I'm am considering the same thing you are. I'm patiently resulting for an VIP to come up for sale. I like the hard chrome for some reason although it's not very practical. I've also toyed around with the idea of reaming the barrel to 10mm. That would be the best of all worlds. Capacity. Horsepower. Maybe a tad more recoil. I love 10mm!
  10. Thanks guys. Naturally I could wait 10 seconds for a reply and put slide glide on it. I'll take it apart and clean it up. Should I polish the firing pin?
  11. Does anyone know what percentage of competitors shoot open minor versus major?
  12. How do you hide money from an orthopedic surgeon? Hide it in a textbook!

    Which one?

Ban 10, that's the California mag limit! A 2x4 or baseball bat for home defense?
  14. So I disassembled and detail cleaned and the firing pin looked ok. Should I lubricate the firing pin/spring?
  15. I completely agree Sarge. I ran an experiment to see how low I could shoot my Glock 19 without cleaning and gave up and cleaned it after 5000 rounds just because. I'll detail strip it and let you know.
  16. Thanks for all of the suggestions. I'll try the recoil spring first. I'll let you know how it works.
  17. I have a W.B. Custom open gun in 38 super. This is my backup gun but if I could get it running well it would be my primary gun. About one out of thirty rounds does not go bang. Inspection of the primer show some with light strike, some with off center firing pin strikes, and one with no visible strike at all. When I fired them again, they all went bang. I've been using cheap armscor for practice but I don't want to necessarily blame the ammo. Obviously my first task will be to detail strip and clean Does this sound like a firing pin or firing pin spring problem?
  18. Are you using the Nelson mags also?
  19. What brand of mags are you using.
  20. I am also new to reloading. After reading the forum and reloading on a friends 650 I ordered a Dillion 1050 from Brian (thank you!) which arrived last week and is still in boxes. I know, I know...don't buy a progressive as my first press. Well, I ordered a Lee single stage also so I can work up loads and problem solve. With the help of my friends, the forum, and reading, I felt comfortable starting with a 1050 as my first press. I am on pace for about 10000 rounds this year and my time is valuable so it made sense to me. After a few months I might look into a Mr. Bulletfeeder and Dillon RF100 for efficiency. I did take the advice of several members above and got Lee dies, extra pick up tubes, Dillon primer tray, Brian Enos digital scale, and some slide glide to keep it lubed up.

    Glock 40 MOS 10mm

Glock 38 super was for sale on gunbroker about two months ago. I think it was a g22 base gun.
  22. What did you pay if you don't mind me asking? I never thought to check online bankruptcy auctions
  23. . Steve is a pretty experienced guy and posts a lot so I try to take head to his recommendations. I had some Shell Rotella-T lying around and tried it. I worked very well and it was very easy to clean the gun with Ed's red afterwards. I might try ATF also. I might actually clean my gun more often if it's this easy!
  24. Steve, I have not seen a used one on here for less than $2500 ish. I am trying to keep the cost to a minimum if at all possible. Take Steve's advice. I bought a used open gun in awesome condition for $1350 and then 6 months later a like new grandmaster for $2300. You just have keep a vigilant eye on the classifieds and gunbroker. I sold my paras and couldn't be happier.
