Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I tilt the pistol to the right a little and gently rack the slide so the round falls to the round. I put my right foot next to it so I can find it. I guess if the ground was rocky enough to worry about it I'd do something else. I saw a guy shoot himself through the web of the hand while holding his weak hand over the ejection port. The primer hit the ejector. The bullet went completely through the web of his hand. He was very lucky it didn't go through the palm, where there are nerves and bones. It was at Red Castle Gun Club in Oklahoma during an IDPA match. I don't consider a part of the shooting process in which I have seen someone shot to be minor or frivolous or not worth discussing.
  2. The dust in Iraq is different. It is as fine as talcum powder. I don't know of anyplace in the US that has such dust. Even Kuwait and Saudi are not as fine.
  3. I received this: Shooters, Due to a variety of unexpected problems over which we have no control, and are too complex to review in a single email, the dates for the Arkansas Section Multi-Gun Championship match have been changed. The match is now set for October 25 and 26, still at Old Fort Gun Club in Fort Smith. Entry form is attached. The match will be better than originally planned. More stuff on the prize table, and we will be past the heat stroke season. Please pass this information on. DVC, Bruce Bethell
  4. I have a factory clamp on my 1100 CM. When I bought a Benelli M2 they didn't have any factory exensions and the aftermarket one had a clamp in the box, but no indent like the one on the Remington. It kept walking around, so I just took it off and haven't had any problems yet. I guess I could really tighten it down, but I'm afraid of dimpling the magazine tube.
  5. Yes, that was a tough stage. I found that both on that stage and the one where the rifle targets were in a shed (stage 4, fun house) that I had my Eotech set way too high and the bright red made the targets hard to see.
  6. I can't speak for anyone else, but the prize table is relatively unimportant to me. I look for matches with interesting stages, high round counts, the chance to test my skills, and the chance to see some top shooters go at it. I'm a pretty mediocre shooter, so maybe that's part of it. I started too late in life to ever be at the top, though I have to say that even the average shooters I saw at this match were so far above the average shooter in terms of accuracy, speed, and manual of arms that it is amazing. My match goals are: 1. Not to injure myself or anyone else. 2. Not to get DQed. 3. Not to finish last. I achieved my three goals.
  7. Like spd522, the very diverse stages made me realize where I need to practice. 1. Moving from target to target on rifle targets. I did find I could make good hits out to 200 with my Eotech, but my target transitions were very slow. 2. Shotgun reloading. No surprise there. 3. Strong hand only pistol. I thought I had practiced it enough, but fell apart when the buzzer went off. 4. And this is a little thing, but I realized when I was done that the main reason I was having trouble seeing some of the rifle targets is that I had my red dot up too high.
  8. A very fun match, though the heat, dust, wind, rain, and humidity made for tough conditions. I decided to not wait for the awards after the team event was late getting started. I only hope I didn't come in last. The sniper rifle FNH provided on one stage was sweet. It was amazing to me that we could just walk up to a rifle we had never shot before and hit three steels 200 yards away. There was a SCAR there to look at. Very nice and ergonomic.
  9. I don't see any reference to slugs. Will we need any? edit: Sorry! I see the answer on the other thread. No slugs.
  10. I went to a monthly match at this club some time ago. I was wondering if anyone knew if they still have their monthly 3 gun matches. They don't seem to have an active web site.
  11. I have a used 21 I bought in part to use in CDP. I love how soft it shoots and it points very naturally for me. I like the grip size better than my 1911's grip size. I put the 3 1/2 pound trigger and a fiber optic front sight on it. I guess I do need to think about an IDPA legal holster, since the only holster I have for it is a Blade-tech. I've had several light primer strikes on reloads with Winchester large pistol primers. I've never had a problem with federal primers or with federal or blazer factory ammo, so for now I'm just swtiching to federal primers. I have thought of going to a stronger striker spring, but if I do I will step up a couple of pounds on the recoil spring, too. There's lots of speculation about why this occurs. Here are four theories: My first thought was that the small strike the Glock striker makes compared to the big round impression of a 1911 was the problem. Others have suggested a more powerful recoil spring to make sure it's in battery. Apparently Glock is telling LAPD that the problem has something to do with the trigger bar. The 21 uses the same striker springs as the 17; maybe it needs a little more ooomph. I've never heard of anyone having this problem with a Glock 20, 29, or 30. p.s. Some have blamed dirty striker channels, but mine is kept quite clean and I don't see why this would affect the 21 only.
  12. I've shot both in Limited 10, but I shoot the 21 major. On both the 17 and the 21 I have added fiber optic front sights and the 3.5 pound trigger, but otherwise left them alone. I can get 9mm for 3.84 / 50 at Academy and not have to pick it up. Most commercial range ammo is loaded almost exactly right for minor power factor. I do reload for .45 and try to set my loads at about PF 170.
