  1. Caution.. WEIGH the bullets,, the new style weigh more, The powers to be did not shorten body for the extra lead they used. I will not use non lube grove style bullets until they correct design, I tried them once. no more.
  2. I bought an inexpensive fish tank aerator pump, attached it to the powder hopper with rubber bands. The vibration is magical evening out the charge weights. I was very pleased that the powder charges did not vary. Give it a try. jpl
  3. Thanks for the powders name correction. I should have looked at the charts. When I start using my 20/28 powder, I will use the lowest recommended powder charge for W231/HP38 and the longest col my magazine will accept, I will adjust from there slowly until I reach my goal Only a fool would start off with maximum charge weight, even with the same powder, Their is a slight variation of powders and primers from batch to batch and a maximum loading can be excessive with a different batch powder or primer, I load for enjoyment. The 45acp with 225 to 230 gr bullets using the lowest powder charge my pistol likes makes for a very nice day at the range, I usually go thru over 200 rounds per range visit. Heaver charges will make the day far less enjoyable and for no benefit at all. If I desire full power bullets I buy commercial. jpl
  4. I edited my response. the following post is better. I will get used to the forums working soon.
  5. I do not agree! 20/28 powder has the burn rate as stated. Then one can use W 296/h38 minimum charge and the maximum col that will feed in your magazine safely. It wasn't that long ago when most of the 'pistol' powders were shotgun only.. Make a few and try it to see if it will work your action well. Adjust col and charge carefully until you have a good reliable recipe for your use. I was fortunate to see information on line that stated he used Unique recipe and the results show a 0.2 reduction would be perfect. I was able to buy 8 lbs of 20/28 and as soon as I finish my VV N320 I will be working up a load for my purpose. have to use the powders available. I use 4.0ge N320 with a bayou 225gr tcfp with a col 1.230 (max for my sig with this bullet profile} crimp .4570, It works very well in my sig 220, sw625.8 and baretta cx4 carbine, Use care, feel the recoil, see the accuracy, if something is not right, STOP, Pull the bullets, check the powder charge, col, crimp adjust the powder charge, Enjoy the challenge. jpl
  6. VihtaVouri reloading guide edition 12 lists; 5.9 gr n340 at 830fps to 6.4gr n340 at 912fps with a hornady 230gr fmj-rn at a col of 1.260 My reloading(n320) with bayou 225hr tc(fp) shows a sensitivity to col. the bullet profile would allow a col of 1.230 to feed in my sig magazine and had to settle for 4.ogr n320 not the 4.9gr n320 with the same hornady 230gr fmj-rn col 1.260. If you can use the 230gr bayou rn at a col of 1.260 you should be ok with the starting load. If you must use a shorter col then start with about 5.0gr n340 and work your way up slowly.. jpl
  7. Be careful, the load you listed has a col of 1.260. Always look for the col. I have bayou 225gr TC and the bullet profile limited col to 1.230 maximum to feed in my sig magazine. I found that 4.0gr N320 was fine, 4.2 gr too snappy, 3.9gr ok but ejected slightly forward. I am using 4.0gr N320 as my load for this bullet. Since you stated a col of 1.20 I would try less than 4,ogr N320 for a few rounds and adjust from there. jpl
  8. I have used the following successfully in my sig 220. 4.0gr N320 col 1.230 crimp .469 mixed brass wolf LPP The profile of the 225gr tc will not load in my magazine if longer col used.. it works the slide releasing empties to right and slightly back. I nice gentile load. I have tried 4.1 and 4.2 gr N320 and gets a little snappier. Do Not Go Heavier than 4.2gr..really gets snappier and may be approaching max. jpl.. .
