  1. Are the Thursday night steel matches back on? When I come out from San Diego for Area 2 I've always gone to PR&G Thursday night steel for a last practice but it was cancelled last March 5th. Looking to go there before WSSSC in November. Sent from my reloading bench using Tapatalk They have been on every time I've headed out for at least the last 6 months at least.
  2. Ok, I think that's what I'll do then. The only thing I need to do is pick up 2 more mag holders and I'm good to go. If I decide to shoot limited I'll just build a different gun.
  3. So when I decided to start shooting USPSA I already had a gun and belt setup. I never gave thought about minor vs major or divisions since I was just doing local steel nights and it didn't really matter. What I have: XDm 9 / PRP trigger / extended mag button / grip tape. So here's my question: I'm a mid pack shooter, but I don't want to hinder myself unnecessarily. If I shoot Limited will I be at too much of a disadvantage? Should I buy a couple more mag holders and shoot production?
  4. It's a hard to read schedule. The calendar has the Events on it too and seems to be current.
  5. I emailed the guy to ask about the Tues USPSA match. I want to shoot it too. Guess we could ride out together since I hafta pass your house anyways. Then we can use the carpool lane!
  6. Oh ok. They are both on the east side of VV off Raleigh Bay. He does a bit of everything. I had him do a trigger on my 1911 and was happy with it.
  7. It did! I started at 4:30 and was done at 5:20. 4 stages. There was only about 20 guys there. People said it gets busier later and that today was a little quieter than usual. Took about 35 min to get there and 40 to get home. I'm on Warner and Lindsay. Which side of the lakes are you on? One of my lifelong friends and also my gunsmith lives there too on Date Palm.
  8. So I shot the steel match tonight at Phx Rod & Gun. Awesome experience. The staff was extremely welcoming and helpful. Stages were laid out well and were fun. I'll definitely be going back next week.
  9. That last line was a killer. Thanks for sending that.
  10. I had earplugs custom made at an audiology clinic. Not much more than a set of good earmuffs and I can use them on my motorcycle, at work, anywhere!
  11. I've boycotted the public range too. The next time I need to sight a rifle I'll drive to a Ben Avery first! Haha.
  12. Cool. I really want to build 2 matching AR platforms that are essentially identical in optic/trigger/stock etc. A S&W 15-22 and a 5.56 version so I can train cheaper.
  13. There's a little play. Mine is like that too. It won't affect your trigger pull. Mine is around 2# too so no worries there. As long as it's assembled correctly you shouldn't have an issue. Any questions lemme know. I've had mine apart so many times.
  14. I use the Thor 2 ply from Strength Shop. I have a triple ply set for heavy squat day. Used these in strength sports for a long time.
  15. I tried the COC grippers for about a year but never found it to help as much as picking up heavy things. Farmers walk, deadlift, pinching 2 25# plates together for static hold.
  16. How's the quality? I was looking at picking one of those up. I like Bushnell stuff normally. Great price for what you get.
  17. Which optic did you run? I had a Burris AR-332 on mine. Kinda weird trying to shoot both eyes open with a 3x but it worked ok.
  18. It really is fun. ZERO pressure or stress, and they've made some really fun stages. And If your pistol jams you get a mulligan and try again. That's the worst part of rimfire. I've totally blown stages on Tac 22 when I needed a pocket knife to extract a case and the clock just keeps on tickin.... I've done surprisingly well in the open class and had fun so I got addicted. That's what made me want to do the TNS initially.
  19. I like going to the rimfire steel match on Sunday mornings but I show up at 630 and run the course with the couple older guys who are always there early. We get thru the 1st 3 bays before anyone starts showing up. But lately I just can't drag myself outta bed in time haha.
  20. I have a few friends who won't go anymore, including my wife who is an Air Force vet. They all say they had such a bad time they won't return. I get safety - I don't particularly want to get shot - but you don't have to try to make CUSTOMERS cry or so nervous they screw up on silly things since they're rattled.
  21. If Intro to Steel didn't start at 0 dark thirty I'd be far more apt to go to it too!
  22. I got freaked out on when I was using one of the private ranges to practice. I used one of the movable stands to put my target at 9 yds instead of 10 while sighting in a red dot. RO came running up like I was using his car as my backstop. I didn't understand. The night before at the Tactical 22 match we were shooting from the same spot at 4 yds and none of the other people there said anything when I called a brief ceasefire to set up. I just calmly said to him "Please explain to me where I would've been told this would be an issue, or why if this is a problem the stand was sitting right here?" He just kept ranting so I left. I think they're just like when your wife wants to start a fight and picks the first thing they see. I don't appreciate being treated like a criminal for moving a piece of paper 3' closer. I think that's the last time I went there. I'll let you know how Phx goes. I'm hopeful.
  23. Yeah it gets crazy there. Now that it's getting hotter there will be way less people I think. The guys at PHX are sure more friendly and helpful too. Answered my emails same day and was more than welcoming. Which is definitely not the experience I've had at Rio over the years *rolls eyes*.
