  1. I am about to order another 4000. Zero reloading issues with them, and decent accuracy and no failures whatsoever,
  2. Excellent point M Peltier, and Steve RA. I have never shot fast with rifle or pistol. This is very fast, and to win you need to be shooting steels every 4/10's of a second. What about a red dot reflex with a magnifier in front? I have tried a red dot on the rifle, but would miss too many of the skinny silhouettes. We only get six misses...
  3. I own a Defense Solutions Group belt, and could not help but notice in reading through here that nobody mentioned DSG. Are they substandard? Do they cause Mikes? I have only shot in one outdoor USPSA shoot, but the DSG belt served me well as did the used CompTac holster and magazine holders that i bought. And although it was my first outdoor shoot, i did not finish last by a good margin. How does that DSG belt stack up, or is it too low on the totem pole to even be worthy of a reply?
  4. Thanks for sharing ZZT. Sounds like a fun shoot to me. Ours is an indoor night shoot, and every one of our 15 or so shooters uses some form of magnification, except the guy who almost always finishes last. Perhaps i should crank it back from 4x to 2X and see what happens...... So how do you guys shoot 22 plates with 10 shots? Ours is 33 steels with 40 rounds, and a 5 second penalty for any targets left standing.
  5. I know what you mean, but the gun mounts pretty quickly. From stepping forward and picking up the gun off of the platform, I get off my first shot within 3 seconds and it is usually a hit. But going target to target to target is where i lag. Targets are 4" squares, 6" circles and 9" tall sillouetes, with a few smaller targets thrown in. Everybody uses a reflex or a scope, mostly scopes on their rifles. And age is part of the problem perhaps. I am 64 and am trying to get as good as three very skilled shooters in the league. Using the scoped rifle/reflex pistol combo, I have finished as high as second, but not consistently.
  6. Up close, with the pistol, the reflex rules. I like the reflex sight, but there is no zoom factor; it is all 1x. Do they make a zooming reflex, or do i need a 1x-4x scope with just a dot instead of a reticle??
  7. Thanks MoBetter. So we must identify the type of jam to solve the problem and prevent reoccurrence. This being a 1911, i would say it is the magazine. Apparently i have been very lucky.
  8. Dumb newbie question #1 - What is a double-feed? Either i have never seen it, or we call it something else? Thanks in advance
  9. I could have been DQ in my first 22LR match for sweeping my left arm, but instead the RO took me aside during the reset and gave me polite but firm lecture. I have always appreciated that, but know that when a DQ comes, it should have happened long ago.
  10. I shoot in a Two-gun indoor 22LR league, with steels targets on racks at 23,16 & 8 yards. Typical guns are an M&P AR15-22 and a Ruger Mark III, which is what i use. For pistol optics, i use a Burris FastFire III, and can shoot pistol as fast and as accurately as almost any other contestant. My rifle has a Burris MTAC 1x-4x scope, well mounted and stable. My issue is that sometimes i shoot very quickly and accurately, and at other times i tend to miss, or acquire and shoot targets slower. Don't know if it is me, the scope or something else. My eyes seem to work better with a dot rather than a circle, and i think that might be the issue. Any ideas or thoughts on improving would be gratefully appreciated.
  11. Another thing is that the trigger finger should touch no other part of the gun but the trigger. Not even a little bit. Otherwise, it will move the gun as it moves the trigger. Sound elementary, but it is amazing how much of the gun that some trigger fingers are touching,
  12. In my first USPSA shoot, i was gently reminded of a mistake i was making. Although i was holstering slow and with proper trigger-finger positioning, i was bringing the muzzle of the pistol too far back, thus inadvertently breaking the 180 degree rule. Fortunately, i was instructed in the proper way, rather than DQ'ed. Since then i pay a lot of attention to holstering.
  13. I had the opposite happen to me Mitch. Stupid brand new Glock 34 would shoot to the right; for me, the rangemaster, or anyone else who would shoot it. O course i moved the rear sight adjustment all the way left to compensate for it and just shot it. Gunsmiths and the guy who sold it to me could not figure it out. And then one day, it just went away. Started shooting like it should, so i re-centered the sights and now it is normal. I am a Mechanical Engineer, and have tried to figure it out, but to no avail. Gun shoots normal now, and i have no idea what it was
  14. I dry fire about 10 mins a day. Mostly with two hands, but also some strong hand and some weak hand. And some fast, some slow to simulate different conditions.
  15. Don't know if you want advice from a newbie, but i cure my flinching by balancing a spent 9 mm casing on the front sight of my 45. I then squeeze the trigger so smoothly that the spent cartridge does not fall off. A cheap cure that works on glocks & 1911's. Not sure about other pistols, but it sure cured me.
  16. How do i edit my profile. Have looked around and found nothing so far. Thanks in advance.
  17. Thanks Sarge. I live West of Dallas in Abilene. Hoping to get a little faster in the coming months. At my age, improvements will have to come fast.
  18. A friend told me about this site and i have already learned a lot. I am 64 and relatively new to competitive shooting. I have been shooting in a weekly two-gun .22lr league for 13 months, and have met some really nice people. Thanks to these very skilled shooter, i have gotten much better. Have also shot in Bullseye competitions four times, and managed to win one of them. From what i have seen, the people here are just as friendly and helpful as the ones i shoot with every Thursday.
