  1. I am curious as to why I keep seeing STI and others call the 3.9" Staccato C a 2011. Not trying to stir the pot but am still confused.

2011 refers to the design of the pistol. It means the frame and grip are separate parts. 1911 is a solid one piece frame. So the Staccato C is a single stack 2011

it seems apparent they are trying to streamline their processes/machines and only manufacture their top selling items.  This will allow them to reduce costs and setup times, and hopefully improve quality.  Everyone forgets that a company needs to be profitable to stay in business :)

The product line was slimmed down due to several factors. There was multiple models that were very similar to one another, many which did not sell well. Also to streamline processes, reduce the lead times and increase quality.

Judging by the email I just got from Dawson, STI has discontinued the Edge.  I really wonder what they’re trying to accomplish.

True, the Edge has been discontinued. There is a replacement model coming soon. Same price point.

I think dumping the 1911 single stack platform is a mistake.  These were "go to" pistols with undercut trigger guards, easy to change firing components, etc.  I rebuilt over a dozen Trojans and will miss working with them and seeing their contribution to the IPSC/USPSA world as the years go by...

    Stay tuned............😉

Almost every person I know that owns one? I have seen more cracked slides, comps, misdrilled frames, casting voids, and guns that just plain won't run with STI than anything else.

Hmm ... do you happen to have any pictures of these or can you get some. They have a lifetime warranty and I would be happy to help the out getting those issues corrected.

...and Trent makes a valid point and is why STI and other custom shops keep selling their products. If a person wants a gun to run and the gun runs, then their personal objective is met.

...... except that most STIs don't run. So....

Interesting statement. And what is this based on?

    Good Morning Eliboudreaux ,

The DVC Steel is designed to run as a Minor power factor pistol. Lighter and shorter slide as well as a smaller comp. You can run Major power factor through it but I would advise putting in a heavier recoil spring to lessen the chance of damaging the pistol. My best advice would be to get a DVC Open which is designed for Major power factor if that is what you plan to shoot the most. Let me know if you would like to look at purchasing one and I can help you out on pricing.

  8. The Spartan was made in the Philippines, but I'm pretty sure the Trojan was made in the US.  My Trojan still runs like a champ and the only time i look at the inside is when I'm cleaning it.

    I pay for performance.

That’s right, I misspoke about the Trojan

  9. All joking aside, would those insides be understandable or acceptable in a $1500 gun rather than the current prices on 2011s?  I'm not on my way out to buy one and only have owned a Spartan and Trojan (both a lot less than $1500 insides and outsides but ran) and the 2011 guys I know don't complain-but that was 2011s from a few years ago.  I'm not questioning your judgment, I actually looking for more insight.  I've considered a 9mm SS of some sort and this looked like it made sense.   Keep seeing new people and news out of Georgetown and wonder.  Like most Texans, having a GOOD gun that is made here appeals to me.

The Spartan and Trojan models were something that was not actually manufactured by STI (made on subcontract out of the Philippines). But they put their name on them so they own it. I would invite anybody with doubts to check out the current line. With the new management and staff in place, quality control has been a main focus for the company.

I'm avoiding STI for the foreseeable future. I've had issues with them not warranting their products.

Hi Andy, sorry to hear you are not happy with STI. What did you have that they would not warranty?

  11. The MBX mags work very well. But just to be clear, The Gen 2 STI mags work 100% out of the box. They hold up to being dropped on the ground without getting deformed. I know the first generation magazines had issues, but the generation two magazines are completely redesigned. You do not have to do anything to them for them to run. You can add a Taran tactical flat base pad or others like it and get extra capacity if necessary. And again, those bags are only $75 and would be an extra 30 or so if you decide to add a base pad. Which is still $30 less than an MBX. Don’t waste any money trying to get the factory Pantera mags to work if that’s what you ended up buying.

  12.   I’m a lefty as well. No chance of an ambi slide release on a 2011. That’s one thing glocks have that 2011s don’t. I’ll have to see how the safety works for me and if a new one is necessary.

One of my shooting buddies uses a left-handed magazine release that works with standard magazine notches. I will find out who makes that part later today

  13. Two mags came with mine. They are the 126mm. Can't tell you how they function because I've yet to use them.  Main reason I switched the MIM parts is because I'm a lefty and needed a wider right side thumb safety.

I can tell you that the factory mags that came with the Pantera did not function well at all. I changed out the guts and adjusted feed lips but was still not 100%. I only used the Gen 2 STI mags. They run 100% out of the box. No tuning needed.

  14. Good Morning Jfitz427 ! (Full disclosure: I am now a STI sponsored shooter, but this opinion is from prior to being affiliated with STI. That's why I wanted to shoot for them)  I have some experience in this matter. I too started shooting competition with a Glock 34. It served me well for the first year and a half or so. During that time I poured money into it with upgrades (trigger, springs, slide cuts, and so on) until there was nothing left to do to it ($1500 altogether). I then decided to move into a 1911 style platform and chose the "cheapest route" and bought a Rock Island. The only issue I had at first was getting used to the manual safety, but didn't take long. I started with it in factory configuration and it was much better than the Glock in regards to recoil, trigger and accuracy. But then of course I started upgrading parts. Trigger job, slide cuts, better sights, etc. Eventually I installed a gunsmith fit barrel, had the slide to frame fit tightened and hard chromed it. After that I decided I wanted a "real" 2011, so I bought a SPS Pantera. It was a much nicer pistol than the Rock Island, even after all of the work and money I put into it(around $2000 total). Tight fitting, smooth action, nice trigger, etc. Also it takes regular STI mags is cheper than putting mags together for the Rock Island. The Pantera was more reliable out of the box and even more accurate than the Rock Island without have to upgrade the barrel. I ran it well for the past year or so. I now shoot STI which is even nicer than the Pantera. The fit is tighter, better finishes (DLC or Hard Chrome depending on model) and are even more accurate out of the box. Mine have been 100% reliable with nothing changed on them from the factory and using the STI Gen 2 mags. And of course why not shoot the 2011 from the people that invented it! The initial cost difference between the models a bit to consider but after upgrading the cheaper options to perform on par with the better, not much difference.

  15. Someone sounds sad they didn't win their class at the last match.

Negative. I shoot matches to try and win or place high overall. No desire for a class trophy. I just think it's funny.
